Mock: Jimmie Ward, No Matter What

I have run multiple drafts against each of the databases in Fanspeak and have come to this conclusion. Jimmie Ward is our guy. Momma says,"When you need it, go get it." This is particularly true for the Ravens in this draft. We need a free safety; here he is. He's lower on almost all public draft boards, but don't count on him lasting that long. No free agent help at the position on the horizon either. After watching Johnny football destroy the tide twice, would you call anybody on their defence a difference maker? Catch the new tide.

17 S JIMMIE WARD - NORTHERN ILLINOIS

In every simulation, he's available at 17. Before I saw the blinding white light, I tried those droppers (Gilbert, Lewan, Evans) and wasted valuable picks chasing safeties.

48 OT JAWUAN JAMES - TENNESSEE

We need an OT, here he is. Most simulations, he is still here, but not in the next round. It's tempting to pick a WR here as there will be a few good ones. We're building the best team, not selecting the best players.

79 WR DONTE MONCRIEF - OLE MISS

I succumb to temptation here. The priority here is TE, but I had to peek at WRs to see if there was anybody I loved. Alas, there was.

99 TE C.J. FIEDOROWICZ - IOWA

I didn't deserve this luck. The guy I should have taken at 79 falls to me here. We need a big tall guy who can block and win some high balls, at least until Owen Daniels shows me that he's not Dallas Clark.

134 RB ANDRE WILLIAMS - BOSTON COLLEGE

Paying a small price for greed. I'r rather have Terrance West and I coulda had him at 99. Williams is almost as good and we're stuck with Ray Ray for at least two more years. Andre will tote the rock just fine.

138 CB PHILLIP GAINES – RICE

A need for speed. He has time to learn. This spot is about right for our CB. Admittedly he is not available at 138 in most simulations. Otherwise, I might take Clarke here and the CB at 175. There are plenty of little fast guys. Ravens selected Anthony a 4.6 CB last year. There are no 4.6 CBs in NFL, not even Anthony.

175 DE LARRY WEBSTER - BLOOMSBURG

Trust me, he'll make you forget the old Larry Webster, who was not that bad, anyway. A poor man's Clarke

194 DT RYAN CARRETHERS - ARKANSAS STATE

We need another big, fat guy, Usually I pick Bromley from Syracuse (the only place to find a true Arthur Jones replacement.)
