Dream Ravens Mock 4-25-14

Like many others here, I see FS as our top need. I think Jimmie Ward would make a great fit alongside Elam. Calvin Pryor seems like another Matt Elam to me -- an excellent strong safety who happens to play coverage fairly well. I'm not as convinced HaHa is worth picking at #17 and I doubt he will still be there then, anyway. So if we assume Ward meets our top need, and that he should be there between 25 and possibly 48, why not trade down? The fact that Deone Buchanan is reportedly high on some team's draft boards (and he's another Matt Elam clone) should improve the chances of Ward being there in the late 1st to mid-2nd.

Then the issue is do we use our first pick on the pure BPA and hope that Ward is still there at 48? This mock assume this strategy works, but it is a pretty big risk. After I traded down with SF, Stephon Tuitt and some CBs were the BPAs at #30, and I grabbed Tuitt.

1/30 (via SF)

DE - TUITT, STEPHON

NOTRE DAME

Started 2013 slower than expected after a monster 2012, but finished strong. Great upside as a junior eligible. Can play several positions along the DL.

2/48

S - WARD, JIMMIE

NORTHERN ILLINOIS

Perfect complement in skills to Elam.

2/56 (via SF)

OT - JAMES, JA'WUAN

TENNESSEE

Plug n' play quality RT, and drafting him here would be a good value.

3/79

RB - HILL, JEREMY

LSU

Harbaugh might not like his character issues, but he's got serious talent. This might be a tad high, but I don't think we get him if we wait any longer.

3/94 (via SF)

WR - BRYANT, MARTAVIS

CLEMSON

Amazing measurables. Is he Stephon Hill or Brandon Marshall? A late 3rd pick is worth the risk.

3/99 (comp)

DT - MCCULLERS, DANIEL

TENNESSEE

Daryl Smith and Art Brown will pick up his dinners all week the way he will soak up double teams in front of them.

4/134 (comp)

CB - EXUM, ANTONE

VIRGINIA TECH

Great upside at CB and even S, only falls this far due to injuries.

4/138 (comp)

ILB BARROW, LAMIN

LSU

Excellent production at LSU, could be nice backup/rotation and ST in his rookie year.

5/175 (comp)

WR - STREET, DEVIN

PITTSBURGH

Great upside and have to think his college coach Engram will push for him if he likes him.

6/194

OLB - PIERRE-LOUIS, KEVIN

BOSTON COLLEGE

Might not last this long, but like Barrow, nice backup/rotation and ST.
