2012Champs Mock Draft 4/13

17 CB JUSTIN GILBERT OKLAHOMA STATE

(Reason for selection)
Many expect the Ravens to go heavy on offense but with Evans, and Watkins gone. Going Ebron would look nice on paper but with Daniels, and Pitta already on the team, Ebron would not make the Ravens a better team today. Justin Gilbert instantly makes the Ravens a better team. He acts as insurance on Webby a fan favorite. who as already had two ACL surgeries. This will also Webby to move into the slot on Nickel situations like normal.

(Scouting)

Closes in a hurry with a head of steam. Good cover awareness with synchronized eyes and reaction quickness. Locates well to highpoint and pluck with his length and ballskills. Disciplined in the run game to hold outside contain and shows willingness in run support. Hard-working, focused attitude and respected in the locker room - CBS (Sounds like Raven)

48 OT MORGAN MOSES VIRGINIA

(Reason for selection)
This was a very difficult pick with Jordan Matthews, Amarco on the board. But getting Moses in second round would be a steal of the draft in my opinion being about to get Moses in the second round, He has the upside of Clady. This pick may also propel our Offensive line to one of the best in the NFL. Monroe, KO, Zuttah, Yanda, Moses

(Scouting)

Exhibits a strong first step and impressive burst for his size, when asked to fire through to the second level as a run blocker. Powerful hands to latch and steer against opponents of all sizes. Does a good job sustaining effort and contact to the whistle, and makes a concerted attempt to drive his opponent off the block rather than simply occupying him- CBS sounds like he can play in the Zone Scheme

79 DE DEMARCUS LAWRENCE BOISE STATE

(Reason for selection)

With TE C.J. FIEDOROWICZ on the board this was also very difficult to decide but the Ravens needs to get better as a team not just offense, Everyone expects Ozzie to with just offense this year's draft, opposite of last years draft. But a great GM does not get emotional. The Ravens do not have a young pass rusher in the wings to succeed Suggs. Lawrence will give the Ravens an opportunity to develop a young pass rusher while Suggs declines. Simon is also there but more pass rusher high probably for one to actually develop. Eric DeCosta words on why we rather collect pics, nothings is guaranteed, more picks increases your chances of getting a good player

(Scouting)

Shows good (not great) initial quickness off the snap to penetrate off the edge or between gaps. Quick, active hands. Varied pass rush technique, including an over-arm swim, rip, club and even an occasional spin move. Surprisingly strong at the point of attack. - CBS (our last pass rush project was drunky Sergio Kindle)

99 WR CODY LATIMER INDIANA

(Reason for selection)
Another difficult pick with TERRANCE WEST and LACHE SEASTRUNK who both might end up being like Clinton Portis days in Denver. We decided to WR. The Ravens are in need a a big WR player maker with big play ability. Marlon Brown is more a slot WR get from working the inside.

(Scouting)

Cody Latimer will be great for working outside the number a physical special that can actually play unlike Tommy Streeter. We need a WR who can separate from press coverage.
Possesses thick, athletic-looking frame and an impressive speed/agility combination that enable him to separate consistently as a route-runner,- CBS 134

RB ANDRE WILLIAMS BOSTON COLLEGE

(Reason for selection)
The Ravens miss on the opportunity to draft West and Seastrunk but are happy with Andre Williams who is a very good zone blocking running back

(Scouting)

He is very good second level vision/instincts. One cut and climbs vertical- ESPN

138 CB ANTONE EXUM VIRIGNIA TECH

(Reason for selection)

The Ravens like players who can play multiple positions ie Gary Baxter, Adulius Thomas, Kyle Juszxzyk . The former CB with convert to FS he compares to Godfrey of the Panthers.

(Scouting)

Looks the part of an NFL safety, boasting broad shoulders and a thick frame, overall. Possesses a low, quick backpedal and fluid turning motion. Accelerates smoothly, showing good athleticism and straight-line speed to handle man coverage duties. - CBS Sports

175 TE CROCKETT GILMORE COLORADO STATE

(Reason for selection)

This was just a project TE pick . Giving the Raven the ability to develop an inline blocking TE

(Scouting)

Natural hands for the reception. High-points passes, showing impressive hand-eye coordination, timing on his leap and overall body control. Competitive blocker who gets a solid initial shove on the defender and works to sustain. Shows some nastiness as a blocker, knocking defenders to the ground when he senses them off-balance - CBS
194 QB LOGAN THOMAS VIRGINIA TECH

(Reason for selection)
I went with the trend Ozzie seems to like athletic back up QBs, ie Troy Smith, and Tyrod Taylor. He also has potential to be a TE. I think Ozzie will also try to get another WR Kevin Norwood who has impressive film and is a Crimson Tide, not sure why he is looked on more. Maybe because Alabama players havent had much success in the NFL.

(Scouting)

Physical runner and not afraid to lower his pads, making it like trying to bring down a tree trunk with his finishing toughness. Above average arm strength to quickly load and fire with effortless velocity to get away with flat-footed throws
