The NFL has a terrible rule on it's hands.

In Sunday's game against the Titans, the Ravens fell victim to a terrible rule. During the second half of the game the Ravens decided to pick up it's pace and started going no-huddle. The whole point of no-huddle is to get the defense back on it's heels. It seemed like the Ravens where doing just that. The Ravens' passing game was finally getting it's MOJO on.

But wait. The Ravens made a substitution. As Joe Flacco was going up under center, the referee blocked him so he could not snap the ball. What was going on here? Well, when the offense makes a substitution the defense is allowed to make one also. That's fine, right? Yeah, but the substitute defenders can take their sweet ass time making it on to the field. The refs would not move out of Flacco's way and it forced him to burn a time out. Former referee Mike Carey chimed in to say this was handled correctly. So let me get this straight. As long as the defense is making up it's mind, the offense is not allowed to snap the ball? Look, I'm all for NFL defenses getting some love from the competition committee. But this rule is atrocious. At least the defense should get penalized in this situation for impeding the flow of the game. Nobody will care that the Ravens were screwed out of a time out. It really had no effect on the game. But....

Just wait until this rule screws up Peyton Manning's chances of winning a Super Bowl. Until then I think this terrible rule is here to stay
