Jacoby Jones says he was at 'wrong place at the wrong time' early Monday morning

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Ravens' receiver took responsibility for being on a party bus early Monday morning. However, he denied receiving a champagne bottle to the head.

The last thing Jacoby Jones wants is for a story about a stripper clobbering him in the head with a champagne bottle following him around.

For his sake, maybe his first public comments since the incident took place help put the embarrassing situation behind him.

Jones took the blame for being on a party bus the night after Baltimore's 30-9 win over Houston, saying this on a local radio show. But Jones denied that any kind of assault against him took place.

"I'm going to take the responsibility that I was in the wrong place at the wrong time," Jones said on radio station 105.7 The Fan. "There was no altercation. There's nothing wrong. I did nothing wrong but I take responsibility for being in wrong place at the wrong time. Enough said. I apologize to my teammates and everybody."

Hey, that's his story and he's sticking to it.

The story in itself is ridiculous, from the TMZ allegation to the police report. But with no charges filed against anyone and no one seriously injured, there are no lasting effects from whatever happened early Monday morning.

In the short term it's created a distraction, though one that shouldn't linger. Jones breaking his silence probably helps that.

In the end, it's a pretty dumb story. It's even dumber that we're still talking about it.
