Never too early for a 2014 mock draft.

I am not listing compensatory picks, because I don't know where they are right now.

Late Round 1 Pick: James Hurst-OT-North Carolina: We need a LT and Hurst has shown to be a pretty good one and unless we have an early pick, we're not getting any of the elite 3: Taylor Lewan, Jake Matthews, or Cyrus Kouandjio.

Late Round 2 Pick: Justin Gilbert-CB-Oklahoma State: We need a better #2 CB and Gilbert seems like the guy. I debated putting a WR here, but with Marlon Brown and Aaron Mellette looking good so far, that position can wait one more round. I could easily seeing us getting a receiver here if Marlon loses his hands or something like that.

Late Round 3 Pick: Josh Huff-WR-Oregon: I admit to being an Oregon fan, but that's not the only reason I have him here. I like his ability in the slot. With Marlon and Torrey outside, Huff and/or Mellette should be able to produce in the slot.

Late Round 4 Pick: Nickoe Whitley-S-Mississippi State: We need another future safety. Whitley is a bit bigger than Elam, standing at around 6'1". He has value as a run defender and a playmaker. It seems like him and Elam would do good together, if Whitley could beat out Huff for the starting job. I would put Whitley at SS and then Elam at FS.

Late Round 5 Pick: James Morris-LB-Iowa: He is not spectacular, but he is solid. He is a good tackler, but he is small. If he could add around 15-20 pounds, he could be a pretty good run stopping ILB on our team.

Late Round 6 Pick: Chris Coyle-TE-Ball So Hard University: He is an undersized TE who has good receiving talent. I wanted a TE earlier because of the uncertainty of Pitta and Dickson both being FA's, but the other needs overshadowed this one. This seems like a good value, especially if he could add on some weight.

Late Round 7 Pick: Tyler Evans-G-Oklahoma: This is a depth as Jah Reid could be waved or him/Ricky Wagner would have to take over RT if Oher leaves. I really want an Oher extension because Jah and Rick Wagner both don't look like starting material, but we most likely will need depth.

Now this looks like a good draft to me. If we get 1 more 3rd, 2 more 4ths, and 1 more 5th, this draft could turn out amazing.

The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!
