It's The Preseason

It's The Preseason

By Mike Mullenix

Although it may appear there is more bad than good, we have to remember that the new CBA rules which retrict preseason activities, two a day practices and what players can do on certain days hampers a team that is trying to rebuild or replace injured players. The front line is still not settled and we all know how well Joe plays if he feels protected, as shown last preseason. Although he hasn’t been too beat up in the preseason, there still is more pressure than we will have once Yanda is back and the decision on center is made..(clearly Gradkowski has the lead in that competition). Although Gradkowski is not Matt Birk (yet) he will continue to develop and with KO and Yanda on either side, it won’t take long. The unsettled line clearly affects both the passing and running games and we will see a huge difference once Yanda returns. We also have a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball but clearly we don’t have a group that has individuals who had played together for over 5 years as in the past, at a time where players jump from team to team. This year, like many years, we may not be the fastest horse out of the gate, but the team that is playing hard and meshing well are the ones who lead at the end of the race, which is all that matters.
