Ravens Sign Terrell Owens To Replace Boldin

Matthew Stockman

The loss of their over-the-middle wide receiver made the need for a veteran who could replicate the production.

After trading Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers, the Baltimore Ravens were desperate to fill the void of his toughness of the middle with an establish NFL veteran. Desperate times make for desperate measures and the Ravens lured former San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals (did I miss any other teams?) wide receiver Terrell Owens out of retirement.

Baltimore signed TO to a one-year contract at the NFL veteran minimum salary, loaded with incentives based on his 2013 production. Owens' 15,934receiving yards is the second most in NFL history, behind Jerry Rice's 22,895. Owens NFL career spanned 15 seasons, between 1996 and 2010.

Ironically, Owens joins the Ravens the year after Ray Lewis retires, although both players were products of the 1996 NFL Draft. Owens was taken in the 3rd round, 89th overall, by the San Francisco 49ers.

Even though Terrell hasn't played for two years, the Ravens hope he can return to form for perhaps one season to take the pressure off of WR Torrey Smith and give QB Joe Flacco that go-to receiver across the middle that the team appears to be lacking.

Flacco-to-Owens,....TOUCHDOWN!!!

NOTE: Oh yeah, by the way....APRIL's FOOLS! <--- Be honest, did I get you?
