What happens if Ozzie decides not to use the 32nd pick in the 1st
round of the draft? Picture Ozzie letting the time expire on the clock. The draft is over for that day, and the second round of the
draft does not begin until the next day. The 32nd selection of the
1st round would then go to the Kansas City Chiefs
. The real questionis, does the 1st selection of the 2nd round go to the Ravens
Its possible but not probable but, this is my arguement. I find
two explanations for why Ozzie does not pull the trigger with the 32nd
#1. No one will trade with us. I highly doubt that many NFL
front offices enjoy trading draft picks with the Ravens (i.e.: no one
wants to help us drop back in the draft anymore.) When is the last
time an opposing team has been put in a better situation by trading
draft picks with the Ravens? Anyone remember the Haloti Ngata
with Cleveland? The Broncos
swap for Tim Tebow
? The Flacco selection?
The Ravens front office makes other NFL teams’ front offices’
look embarrassingly stupid. (I’d like to know how many times the
Ravens draft strategy has indirectly gotten another teams coach or GM
#2. Right player for the right price. Does anyone seriously think
that a 32nd draft pick of the 1st round is worth 1st round money? I
don’t. They’re worth 2nd round money. Ozzie knows it too.
There you have it. A draft move that is crazy enough to make sense,
and also benefit the Ravens pocket book. Let the discussion begin…
