It seems to me that year after year free agency begins and we see the same reaction from Ravens fans. Our players leave and we hear talk about Ozzie not knowing what he’s doing, and maybe he’s lost his touch, some even saying he needs to retire. For the past five years we’ve heard the same thing and at the end of the season we have the same results, a playoff berth.
There is a reason that Sports Illustrated, just one day ago, listed the Ravens front office led by Ozzie Newsome as the best in the NFL. The front office constantly has holes to fill, and it seems that they always deliver and provide the fans of Baltimore with a competitive team. In previous seasons they’ve needed to replace key pieces including: Adalius Thomas, Jarret Johnson, Trevor Pryce, Jim Leonhard, Bart Scott, Dawan Landry, Cory Redding, and Ben Grubbs among many more. This year is no different as we already need to replace Dannell Ellerbe, Paul Kruger, Anquan Boldin, and most recently Bernard Pollard. Does this bother me? Yes it does, but if I’ve learned one thing in previous years as a Ravens fan it is one thing. In Ozzie we trust!
That phrase is one I’ve heard many people use in times like this as Ravens fans. Can you really argue with it? Two Super Bowls in 17 years, five straight playoff appearances, nine overall playoff appearances, and four division titles. That is quite the résumé and one that would be an improvement for any NFL franchise. It is just over 24 hours into free agency with weeks still to come. The NFL draft is still ahead, one in which the Ravens have 12 picks.
I beg you all to not panic. This isn’t Ozzie’s first rodeo and we as fans have been here before. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. IN OZZIE WE TRUST!
Update:
Ed Reed is scheduled to visit with the Houston Texans on Thursday
