Ed Reed won't retire: 'I'm not done', Ravens safety says after Super Bowl

USA TODAY Sports

Ed Reed wants to return for a 12th NFL season.

Ed Reed isn't calling it quits yet.

The veteran safety said after the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl victory Sunday night that he's going to stay on the football field next year. Retirement isn't in his plans just yet, writes Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun:

"This is not it," Reed shouted. "This is not it. I'm not done."

[...]

"It's all about right now," Reed said. "I'll reassess things the way I always do and we'll tune in and get back to you all. It's all about the moment. I'm not even thinking about this. I love this game. If I'm able to do it, I'll be doing it."

Despite injuries that have cropped up (including a "nerve impingement"), Reed wants to return for a 12th NFL season. Reed has played with the Ravens since his rookie season in 2002. He was the 24th overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft.

But here's the real question: Will Reed still be a Raven?

Reed's seven-year, $40-million contract is set to expire on March 12 at 4 p.m. If the Ravens don't work out a new deal with Reed by then, he'll be available to the rest of the league as a free agent.

If Reed becomes a free agent, he'll have many suitors. Despite being 34 this season, Reed still played in all 16 games, recording 58 total tackles, four interceptions and a touchdown. Reed capped his season by picking off Colin Kaepernick in the first half of the Super Bowl on Sunday night.
