Ravens cut Brandon Stokley, re-sign Billy Bajema

Ravens cut the veteran receiver brought in during training camp.

The Ravens announced that they have cut receiver Brandon Stokley and re-signed tight end Billy Bajema.

In all honesty, it was only a matter of time before Stokley was released. The veteran was brought in to be a reliable presence at the position to help an otherwise young group. With Marlon Brown playing at a starter's level, there's no real need to keep someone like Stokley on the roster (not to mention the fact Brown can play the slot himself.)

Stokley served his purpose of being a third-down receiver that could be an option for Joe Flacco turn to. But moving forward, he wasn't going to be one of Baltimore's top three receivers with Jacoby Jones returning soon. With Deonte Thompson back, Stokley was going to tumble down the depth chart.

Bajema has practically been on a roller coaster of emotion (well, maybe not the emotion) the last few weeks. One day he's on the Ravens, the next he's not. The Ravens need for three tight ends on the roster trumps anything Stokley, at this stage of his career, could bring to the table.
