A fine piece of jewelry is somewhere around the Chesapeake Bay.
A Ravens Super Bowl ring was accidentally dropped in the Middle River, and BaltimoreRavens.com's Ryan Mink has what could be one of the most bizarre off-field stories of the season.
After the Ravens won the Super Bowl this past February, all full-time employees were given championship rings. This included Ravens receptionist Toni Lekas, who decided to show off her ring at a boat party with her boyfriend.
Her boyfriend, Chuck Lykes, asked Lekas if he could hold onto the ring after she was leaving so that he could show it to a friend who was on the way. That turned out to be a mistake. Lykes, who was later asked to help dock the boat wound up dropping the ring into the river.
He dove in to try and find it but it was dark outside without any light. Lykes even hired a diver to try and help retrieve it.
No one found it.
The story does have a happy ending as the NFL has approved for Lekas to get a new ring. Since Lekas had the ring insured, the insurance company will pay for a new one.
Seriously, read Mink's story here. It's certainly a bizarre yet entertaining tale that, for their sakes, turned out OK in the end.
