Super Bowl 2013 odds: Ray Lewis' MVP odds come in behind Joe Flacco, Colin Kaepernick

Patrick Smith

The odds for who will win the Super Bowl MVP are out and Ray Lewis has the second best odds among the Raven candidates.

Ray Lewis already has one Super Bowl MVP trophy to his name, but the Baltimore Ravens linebacker is among the favorites to win another this season.

Longform: Ray Lewis, American

With the idea that it's the Super Bowl and you can essentially bet on anything -- including the length of time it takes to sing the National Anthem -- it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that 24 players were given Super Bowl MVP odds. Quarterbacks have won five of the last six Super Bowl MVP awards so they naturally receive better odds. San Francisco's Colin Kaepernick has the best odds at 7/4 while Joe Flacco check in just behind him at 5/2.

Beyond the quarterback, it's really anyone's guess as to who will win.

Lewis has the third best odds at 6/1, much higher than any other defensive player. The next closest defender on the list is San Francisco's Aldon Smith at 25/1 and Ed Reed is the only other defensive player to have better than 50/1 odds.

Lewis' high odds make a lot of sense though. Not only did he win the award before, but he's the undisputed leader of the team and face of the franchise. If the Ravens win and no player stands out statistically, Lewis will likely rack up a lot of votes.

Other Ravens on the list include Ray Rice at 12/1, Torrey Smith at 20/1, Dennis Pitta at 33/1 and Terrell Suggs at 50/1. An interesting sleeper pick would have been Jacoby Jones, but he's not listed among the odds. With his big play ability as a kick returner and wide receiver, he's a player who could sneak into the discussion with a couple of big plays, but apparently he wasn't enough of a candidate to earn 75/1 odds. You could, however, select him as part of the field at 22/1.
