In a recent article, I talked about how rare player for player trades are in the NFL. For some reason it almost never happens. I'm surprised by this, given the large size of rosters in football compared to other sports, you'd think teams would value draft picks over players that they may have 5 other guys on the team at the same position.
But let's pretend player for player trades were more common for a moment and consider what Ravens we'd trade for players on other teams. I'll start out with a few, tell me what you think and feel free to propose your own in the comments.
Boldin has been a player I've talked about possibly being expendable before. I love him as a player but don't necessarily love him in Cam Cameron's system. With the loss of Terrell Suggs for at least part of the regular season, this could be a good move. I'd only do it if some of the young receivers on our team show improvement in the preseason.

As much as I love these 2 players, getting arguably the best QB in the NFL is a no brainer. I don't think the Packers would even consider this move, but if for some reason they did, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
We all know Ed Reed is a personal favorite of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. They have the utmost respect for him, but at this point in their respective careers, they probably don't consider this. However, with Brady running the offense, the Patriots will always be successful on that side of the ball. On the other hand, their defense was a major weakness in 2011 and could use one of the game's best playmakers of all time putting fear into opposing QBs. The Ravens have 2 good young TEs, but Gronkowski is far better than Pitta and Dickson. Joe Flacco would love to have a weapon that is a mismatch for almost any defense to add to Smith, Boldin, and Rice.
A dominant force that can change a game on defense and an elite WR that can put 6 points on the board at almost any time. Again I have to say I don't see Detroit considering this, but imagine that D line if they added Ngata. Johnson in Baltimore would immediately change the Ravens from a run first to a pass first team with what he would add to this offense.
Would you make any of these moves? If no, why not? Also, what crazy trades would you make that would be somewhat fair for both sides?
