According to a story on Yahoo! Sports, former Heisman Trophy winner (THE Ohio State University) and Baltimore Ravens reserve QB Troy Smith was released by the Pitttsburgh Steelers. Smith had been signed by Pittsburgh earlier this year and therefore had never officially donned the black and gold uniform for a regular season game.

The Ravens originally drafted Smith in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft and while he was here for three years, he never got the chance to play and start until the 2008 season, but that shot was cut short by a severe throat infection which opened the door for some unheralded rookie named Joe Flacco.

Some Ravens fans were upset to hear Smith signed with the Ravens arch rivals in the AFC North. However, others relished the thought of facing Smith, which of course would only happen if Steelers starter Ben Roethlisberger were unable to play.
