This is my first story on the Beatdown, so I apologize if the formatting isn't the greatest. With that said however....
Who should the Ravens draft in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft?
I've been seeing a lot of Mock drafts, and the consistency between them is simply not there. Last year, if you remember, we were commonly linked to Jimmy Smith, and we ended up drafting him. However, this year it's not quite as clear. We don't have many major holes to fill at any position. But, it's easy to see where a talented rookie could start, or at the very least contribute greatly, to a potential Super Bowl run.
The things we don't know is who will that player be? What position will we target? Hell, will we even keep our pick in the first? These are all questions that will not truly be answered until draft day.
Despite this lack of insider knowledge, from a fan perspective, I really enjoy discussing who the Ravens will potentially welcome to their team in 2012. In this writer's opinion, our biggest positions of "need" (where the "need" here is mainly depth) are at O-Line, OLB, and WR.
Based on the mocks I've seen, we are all over the place positionally. We're projected to draft almost every position except QB, TE, and CB. Based upon what you all have seen at the collegiate level last year, the combine, and any other analysis, who should we draft?
In my personal opinion, it has to be ILB Dont'a Hightower. He is a great athlete who can rush the passer from inside, as well as be that "quarterback" of the defense that we have fortunately had for our franchise's entire existence. Against elite competition, like LSU in the National Championship, he was an absolute force in getting to the passer and covering the middle of the field. He could be a cornerstone of our franchise for years to come.
But, don't let my opinion sway your decision. Answer the poll below, and let your opinion be heard.
And as a bonus, for additional discussion in the comments, as a result of your choice in the first round, who would you pick in the second round? For me, WR Marvin McNutt would fit right in to our Air Coryell offense.
