Jaz 2012 Ravens Mock Draft

Hello Ravens/other football fans. My Ravens mock draft consist of the ravens trading out of the first round for a extra second , fifth, and seventh round pick. Cary Williams is giving a second round tender and a team such as the lions are willing to give up their second round pick for him.

Second round(traded pick from the Vikings)-

Inside Linebacker/ Outside Linebacker Donta Hightower Wt: 260 Ht:6-2 School: Alabama -If Jamel McCalin isn’t/ or is re-signed the ravens will still need to draft a linebacker. Donta Hightower seems to be the perfect linebacker for the ravens and he may be consider first round talent but I think he could drop to the second round. Hightower has good instincts, fair reaction time for his size, has a noise for where the ball is , doesn't take false steps against play-action, gets into his drop quickly, solid against run, and can be used as a outside linebacker as will as inside linebacker

Second round pick(pick obtained from lions signing Cary Williams)

Guard/Tackle Amini Silatou Ht:6-4 Wt:311 School : Midwestern State – I don’t believe Ben Grubbs will return but if he does The Ravens will still need to add some depth to the guard postion. Silatou played left tackle in college but a lot of scouts see him better suited as a guard in the nfl. Silatou has good athleticism for his size, good run blocker, very quick for his size, and aggressive. I think it be cool to have two starting guards that will not only be solid as a guard but can handle their own as left/right tackles.

Second round pick

Defensive End Jared Crick Ht:6-4 Wt: 279 School: Nebraska- Cory Redding may not be re-signed and The Ravens do have other talented defensive end but I’m not sure if it’s enough to keep them from addressing the position in this year draft. Jared Crick was once known as one of top defensive ends in this year draft but injuries definitely hurt his stock from being first round talent. Crick is good against the run, can be a effective pass rusher( had nine sacks in 2010), and overall can develop into a solid defensive end.

Third round:

Cornerback Casey Hayward Ht: 5-11 Wt:185 School Vanderbilt- The Ravens are going to need more cornerback depth since Cary Williams will be with The Lions. Casey Hayward is said to play bigger then his size, skilled player, has fluid hips , good coverage ability( was able to limit Alshon Jeffery to two catches), good against stop the run, very smart, and he’s good at kick returns.

Fourth round:

Wide Receiver Greg Childs Ht 6-3 Wt: 219 School: Arkansas- Ozzie Newsome said he will like to continue to address the wide receiver postion. The ravens need a widoout that can be physical like Anqun Boldin, enough speed to be a vertical threat like Torrey Smith, and good hands/ able to make plays even in press man coverage. I think the perfect wideout would be greg childs; Childs is big target, has good hands, made lots of plays down field in college, does a good job getting of the line of scrimmage, has good speed( ran the 40 at his pro day and the results came up as 4.41), a good blocker, good against press man coverage, and hard to bring down/ will fight for extra yards. I would like to mention that Greg Childs was once mention of being rated as high a round talent ( 1st or 2nd round pick)before his injury hurt his stock last year.

Fifth round-(traded pick from vikings)

Free Safety Janzen Jackson Ht:5-11 Wt:188 School: McNeese State- Janzen Jackson was one known as one of best free safeties in college but his character concerns has hurt him a lot. Jackson has a nose for the football, always around the football, solid in coverage, good tackler, could probably play some cornerback, has seen time as kick return with success, and can be good at stopping the run.

Fifth round-

Center William Vlachos Ht 6-1 Wt 300 School: Alabama- Matt Birks seems to be returning so the need to draft center may not be as strong. William Vlacho may not impress you with his size but don’t let that fool you. Vlacho has a high football IQ,he’s able to get his hands on defenders quickly, uses his low pad level to his advantage against bigger defensive linemen, a hard worker, technically sound, and was consider to be one of the strongest players on his team

Sixth round-

Insidelinebacker/Outside Linebacker Tank Carder Ht: 6-2 Wt: 236 School: Texas Christian University: Tank Carder has non stop motor, good short areas of quickness, attacks the line scrimmage well, very good in coverage, can play outside linebacker as well as inside linebacker and probably could become a good special team player in the nfl. Brendon Ayanbadejo may not return and Carder probably could provide the samething Brendon did on defense/special teams.

Seventh round pick(traded pick from vikings)

Defensive Tackle Hebron Frangupo Ht: 6-0 Wt:323 School: Brigham Young (traded pick from Vikings)- Hebron Frangupo is a solid anchor, very strong, space eater, can occupy multiple blocker, solid aganist the run, and plays aggressive. Frangupo is a raw talent but I think the ravens can help develop him into a solid back up north tackle and he could help a lot when Terrence Cody needs to rest.

Seventh round pick :

Strong Safety Winston Guy Ht: 6-1 Wt: 218 School: Kentucky-Winston Guy would provide the ravens with some depth to the strong safety postion. Winston Guy is solid tackler, has been used as outside linebacker in college, could be solid contributor on special teams, and has the potentials to turn out to be a steal if giving the right coaching.
