Robert Griffin III: "I'm the Best Quarterback"
Think that Stanford QB Andrew Luck might have something to say about that headline? In a recent interview with SI.com, Baylor QB Robert Griffin III said he's the best quarterback in the nation. Seems like a certain soon-to-ex-QB of the Indianapolis Colts said a similar thing when he was up for the NFL Draft coming out of the University of Tennessee.
Peyton Manning warn the Colts that if they ended up taking Washington State QB Ryan Leaf instead of him with the first overall pick, he would make them regret it by beating them for the next fifteen years when he played them. The Colts obviously made the right choice then and plan on making the right choice in Apri when they are expected to select Luck with the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Griffin told SI.com's Don Banks:
"I hate to talk about myself like that, but if I had to straight up tell a head coach or an owner why they should take me, it's because I'm the best in everything I've done. I'm the most accurate. I have the strongest arm. I may not be the tallest, I may not be the heaviest. But I'm the best quarterback in the nation, and if they pass on me, then I understand. But I'm going to go out and be the best quarterback for somebody else."

"And, don’t get me started on Joe Flacco," Simms continued. "Did the experts watch the game? Joe didn’t miss a throw, not one. I watched every play. Every time he had the opportunity, he hit the guy. And, he made some moves so he could complete other throws. Are these people watching? What was Joe supposed to do with Texans in his face? Throw it up and hope? Sometimes a sack is a good thing. The object is to win the game. You did."

I’m still not sold on Luck. I know everyone keeps saying: “he’s the closest pick to a sure thing” but people thought Leaf and Russell were too. Maybe I’m just not seeing what everyone else is seeing, and of course I’m not a scout or anything. Don’t see the arm strength or long ball ability. I do however think his football IQ will translate well and can see Luck doing well at commanding a huddle and reading defenses.
But, based of of pure tangible QB skills, I like Griffin more. Little worried about his size and that he’ll take a beating in the NFL, but other than that he can straight up play. Accuracy, mobility, arm strength. He could be something special.

I love everything about Griffin except for his size and durability. Did anyone else notice when he scrambled he didn’t take hits very well? He would go full speed in tacklers and his body got rocked awkwardly. It’s definitely correctable, just a little worrisome if he’s your QB.

Luck has all the tools. He doesn’t have Flacco’s arm strength, but he’s got an extremely quick and accurate release. His arm will still be above average for the NFL. He’s also a lot more athletic than his goofy face would suggest.

yeah, if they get RG3 + Floyd
or grab colston in FA, they might put the browns on their back and start splitting afcn series….

I have to agree with him. Luck may be the “safer” pick (what player is truly safe?) but Griffin could be sooo good that I get excited just thinking about it. I just hope those idiots in Cleveland don’t trade up for him.
"If you havin' dragon problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 arrows but my knee took one."
Flacco, Ben, Dalton and RG3 all in the same division? Might be the only division in the league next year that wouldn’t have any questions at QB.
"Picture Me Rollin"
That would be insane. We would NOT match up well against RG3 at all. We already have a problem with scrambling QBs, but a double-threat guy like Griffin would be almost impossible to stop.

!?
Relax dude, “impossible to stop” is a bit dramatic.

I honestly can't argue with RG3
He is more mobile than Luck, and he was surprisingly accurate all year. It’s like every pass he threw went for a completion.

I agree with some of the others that I think Luck is the safer option, but there’s no doubt RGIII is extremely talented and had he come out any other year is probably the consensus #1 pick. Really hope he doesn’t end up in cleveland because his upside is ridiculous and has the talent to actually turn them around offensively.
On Ed Reed:

Ironically
The pressure is on Indy. Whoever they pick, has to be as homerun, whether it is Luck or RG3. If I am Holmgren, it is an easy draft for me- just take whoever Indy doesn’t as C-town, I would be ecstatic with either.
The wildcard, the X-factor, the burr in the saddle, the fly in the ointment, the potential rocker of apple carts, is Minnesota. Hearing rumors, and given the way the season ended, that they may be having second thoughts about Ponder. Is it out of the realm of possibilities that they draft one of the Big Two? Or, more probable, would they entertain trade offers, from say a DC to let someone slip in front of Cleveland?
The first six picks of this year’s NFL draft could be the wildest given trade possibilities…

The Vikings should trade Ponder and try to develop Webb. He’s a nightmare in the open field and his passing skills are coming along.

But Who
Would take Ponder? As a starter? Who trades for a backup QB?
They are paying Ponder a relatively small amount. I could see them holding onto him for one more year, and then he gets his walking papers unless he dramatically improves -that is, if the Vikings decide to go crazy and draft one of the Big Two.
Or they may be willing to give Christian a second chance; or at least are willing to go forward with Webb and Ponder and let training camp sort it out.

I was never high on Ponder. It probably is too early to give up on him though.
