Broncos vs. Steelers: Game-Time 'Open Thread'

While many fans of the Baltimore Ravens would like to see the Pittsburgh Steelers lose to the Denver Broncos in this afternoon's Wild Card Round playoff game, still others want to see Pittsburgh advance so they can beat the New England Patriots, which would set up at Ravens-Steelers match-up in the AFC Championship Game in Baltimore for the right to advance to the Super Bowl.

However, an early exit from the post season would still be sweet to all Ravens fans, regardless of where Baltimore has to go in order to play for the right to represent the AFC in the Big Game. With the Ravens already scheduled to host the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round, the winner of the Broncos-Steelers game will head to Foxboro, Massachusetts next week to play the #1 seeded New England Patriots.

In the meantime, keep it here on Baltimore Beatdown to write down your thoughts as the game progresses towards a conclusion and either a Steelers victory or a Broncos upset of the defending AFC Champions. Cheer along with other Ravens fans as we watch with interest to see if Tebow-time will show up or if the injury-riddled Steelers can escape the Mile High City with a road win to fight another day.

Lots of ball left but i can’t see pitt winning this gane if Denver stays aggressive

They let tebow stay in the pocket on 2nd down and 3 on the 6… Big mistake. Roll him out

by Evan Skev on Jan 8, 2012 6:29 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Nice little story with the Broncos who have lost 3 in a row….Pitt will destroy them.

Things to watch in this game:
1. A zillion shots of Elway in the owners booth after every Tebow incompletion.
2. McGahee gets 25 carries?
3. Tebow dares to go verticle?
4. Broncos play desperate and use some tricks and go on 4th and 1’s.

by raven on Jan 8, 2012 4:25 PM EST reply actions

man, ben has the physique of a mixed up condiment- a yellow ketchup bottle with stripes.

lol too true--somewhow it always takes me by surprise

by dimik on Jan 8, 2012 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

I think people are sleeping on that Denver defense.

Its a solid defense that can stop the run and rush the passer. The secondary is leaky with Goodman, but that pass rush is for real. The Steelers should win but it ain’t going to be easy.

Side note: Its so disrespectful that there is a possibility that Quinn comes in and pass for the Broncos on 3rd and long. That doesn’t make sense. That’s a slap in the face for the starting quarterback. Its f*cked up.

Game far from over,

If you remember the nightmare last year, Ravens were up 21-7 at halftime and allowed the Steelers to come back and win. Pitt only two TDs away from taking the lead. Had Denver converted that last drive into a TD instead of a FG, then perhaps the Broncos could sit on the lead. But not now.

Yes.

I find it odd that it hasn’t spread around the league yet. I get so pissed when there’s a ball bouncing around on the turf that has even a chance of being live.

To me, it’s the same as what Indy does in the hurry up. They give the ball to the official who spots it (umpire, I believe), rather than the line judge. It may only save a fraction of a second, but it saves them time. If it could potentially give you a legal advantage, why not do it?

I'd take Yates over Flacco

When you think of the opposite of mobility, you think of Flacco. When you think of average qb, you think of Flacco.

Who has a better defense this year? Baltimore or Houston? Houston
Who has the best receiver? Houston
Who has the best running back? Houston

Last game, we didn't have Andre

Now, we have the best receiver in the league. Our defense will keep us in the game and Arian Foster will put your aging defense away for the season. Atleast you won’t have far to travel after the game.

lol you also had schaub and not noodle arm yates. Is Arian going to rush for a whole 49 yards again?

Well, happy to see P-burgh go down. Downside is Brady & Co. get an additional bye week… And if all goes according to plan, that means no second playoff game at home this year. Would have been nice to host the AFCG and “welcome back” the squeelers…

As Little Chance

As I gave them against P-burgh, I give them even less of a chance on the road, in the playoffs, in New England. But what do I know? I thought my one sure prediction this weekend was the squeelers over the Tebows…

Yes and No

Yes, because they would be on an unbelievable roll. No, because that means they would have to play us at home. And I think we would win that game. Saints, Packers and us are the only undefeated at home teams left.

Nope. We could have beaten Denver the way they played today.

The Steelers played poor defense and their offense was meh. If they hadn’t insisted on stacking the box every play but only rushing a few guys they would have been fine. If we keep Ray Ray as a spy whenever we can and drop our safeties back to cover the deep ball we can defend what Denver showed today.

by Roa on Jan 8, 2012 9:43 PM EST up reply actions

First,

I was imagining a scenario where Denver beats NE. If Denver plays like they did today, they won’t beat NE. I also question whether Ray can keep tabs on Tebow.

You come at the king, you best not miss.

I see what you mean, Zachary…. But the Ravens only need to beat their opponents… Pitt loss was just a little late Christmas gift

by Evan Skev on Jan 8, 2012 9:45 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I think it would have been. Pittsburgh had a better chance of taking out New England than Denver does. And we want the Patriots out, so that the next game comes to our house.

Now it’s Denver at New England, and we’ve seen that already. So, even if we win next week, we’ll end up in New England.

I should know better than to cheer for the Steelers. It always jinxes them.

I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.
