Bengals @ Texans: Game-Time 'Open Thread'
Stick with Baltimore Beatdown and watch intently to see if the Houston Texans can end any speculation of who the Baltimore Ravens next opponent will be in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. The Texans host the dangerous Cincinnati Bengals who definitely could pull off the upset but will have to prove they can beat a team with a solid running, which they certainly didn't do last week in their loss at home to Baltimore.
Post your thoughts and comments all game long here and come back afterward for another 'Open Thread' on the New Orleans Saints-Detroit Lions game.

Lets go texans. Of we face anyone in the second rouns def want to face a 3rd stringer. Facing the steelers would be best in afccg. Where we would have another home game.

I totally agree
Im definetly rooting for the texans and make pitt play at NE. The only team I’m actually nervous about is the patriots that offense is crazy good even tho Brady has been uncharacteristically off the past couple of games.

Torn…not sure who I want to win. Happy New Year, everyone

Think we could beat any of three we could face in the second round. Just rather if its the steelers at all be great to be at home and nice to have the momentum and confidence of coming off a win.

JJ Watt!
What a great interception by Watt, DT who is a former TE. I didn’t know that, have to respect his athleticism.
Hard enough for a rookie to go the length of the field in 3 minutes let alone 1.5. cincy asked too much from the rookie and you just knew they would have been better off running out the clock. tie game on the road…thats a 1/2 time victory for cincy. not now.
Especially since they were getting the ball to start the 2nd half.
Really didn’t understand the decision.

always wished i went to a carolina school. nice down there. no wonder maryland cant recruit with warm sunny skies 5 hours a way.
Woo Hoo!
TD Texans…. I’m one step closer to my hopes this weekend!
That’s game. Houston, you have a problem.

For sure we get the Texans
Foster and Tate are tough runners, and Andre J. will be there this time.
They’re gonna get beat up in Baltimore
by Evan Skev on Jan 7, 2012 7:33 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Be careful what you wish for
They are a tough team, even with all of their injuries. Cockiness and not taking them seriously on the Ravens’ part will guarantee a Texan win.
Respect… Just saying that Baltimore is a very physical team. They’re going to get roughed up.

How about that JJ Watt guy?
Dude is a friggin stud.

Hell yeah. Defintly a more disciplined defense than the bengals. 24 offensive points they dropped on them. Can’t see that against bmore. And last game. Foster 15 carries for 49 yds. Webbie on johnson. Gonna be a long week of anticipation!!!!!

Andre has 5 inches on LW
Plus he is an excellent leaper, and a physical player with great hands.
Certainly Baltimore will be favored, they ought to win, but—the Ravens will need to focus to beat them.
Sounds like a texans fan. Webb has been a shut down corner all year. All this talk about careful what you wish for and focus. Think baltimore proved their focus last week winning the division

Tj yates has never seen a defense that will be this good. Guaruntee the ravens wanted the matchup.against the 3rd stringer. One good play he had to johnson pacman shouldn’t have hone.back in from injury. Plus there is a reason he can’t stay on a team. Terrible technique on the play

yeah we eat rookie QBs

This is the problem with the Flacco hate, people don’t really know who he is as a person. - Mr. Malor. Crazy Raven fan/possible stalker.
He meant the Ravens D is known for making life difficult on rookie QBs, Frank.

Great Pull
Robert Duvall in a role of a lifetime.
R. Lee Ermey had had a very minor role also. A pilot if I remember correctly…

"The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug."
"God's whiskers! Your face is as hideous as the demon's in my storybook!"
"I never expected to see the day when girls would get sunburned in the places they do today."
"It's big for a reason."

Tell us what Houston needs to do to win in Baltimore, Sam.

Look, I agree that the Ravens ought to win
No question about that. And this is a playoff game, so it shouldn’t be compared to the games against, e.g., the Jags or the Titans and Seahawks.
But—Houston has a fine OL and terrific runners that take advantage of that. And a tough defense. As is almost always the case, the team that wins the LoS will win the game. And that is what Houston will need to do to win—get Foster off, keep Rice from getting off, get a couple of TOs.
I am just saying that the Ravens can’t afford to look past this team, even with their third string QB. I wanted this matchup too—I wanted Pitt and NE to play each other before playing the Ravens—see what I did there? I just took it for granted that the Ravens will win next week. And all I’m saying is that the Texans are definitely good enough to beat the us if the team doesn’t take them seriously.
Totally agree. But we played this team and shut foster down. Our defense plays against a similar run scheme every week in practice. I hardly think the ravens will overlook them when the texans are in the way to the ultimate goal. Like I said I agree the texans are good so don’t see why they would be overlooked.
In my opinion the texans are gonna be riding high off their first playoff appearance and victory in team history and come not ready to play.
by lsg2131 on Jan 7, 2012 8:17 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Yeah, we did shut him down
but aside from the fact that they didn’t have Andre Johnson that game, if I recall correctly he wasn’t completely healthy that game either. He sure looked healthy in the Bengals game! He looked terrific in fact.
I wouldn’t mind believing your opinion but IMO the fact that we beat them earlier in the year will help to keep them focused on this game, and come ready to play.
Only one person can shut down Rice. He is the league’s best.
by Evan Skev on Jan 7, 2012 8:26 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Yeah no andre johnson last game but matt shaub played. Andre johnson with tj yates this game. Yates def no shaub. Gotta remember too they had a good game against the bengals that were terrible all year against winning teams. If I remember right the bengals didnt have a win all year against a winning team.
Shut out foster abd pressure on yates will take.johnson out the game

"Shut out foster abd pressure on yates will take.johnson out the game"
True enough.
Win the LoS, win the game.
Boy I hope that the Ravens can get a great LT in the draft. Even if it takes a year for him to mature, McKinney will do for next year. But after that….
yeah gonna be an interesting draft because i think they will need to find some replacement for birk unless gurode steps in for a season or two at center.
so cliche though LoS wins the game. thats true in every single football game. just shows the ravens front 7 does a great job at that with their sack totals this year.
not trying to sound cocky and i dont think the ravens will be this week in preperation but dont see how yates is gonna beat us and come on you know that has to be part of the gameplan.
I think us playing at home is major and the fact that we are built for any kind of weather. Sometimes dome teams struggle in weather impacted games. If it rains or snows Yates may not be effective. Joe was drafted for this time of the year, can play in any weather. Our defense is healthy and our run game is 2nd to none.

Here's hoping the extra week off helped out Ngata with his thigh/leg injury.
He’ll be huge on Sunday.

Texans fan here
Stoked right now! Looking forward to 2 great defensive teams with good running games to battle it out. Everyone in the media is talking offenses (Brady, Rodgers, Brees) and forgetting that defenses win championships, they should look at this matchup and see what real football is. I think the winner of this game wins it all, IMO.
"I don’t like to really get in the quarterback’s head because I know he has a thousand other things to think about when he’s out on the field, but T.J. knows where I’m at."—Wide receiver Andre Johnson, on whether or not he lobbies for the ball in the huddle.
Thanks Texans fan
Welcome to the Beatdown and hope you become a Ravens fan after next week.

This made me laugh.
Asked whether he was concerned about using up all of his challenges so early, Lewis said, “I wasn’t worried about that.”
Yeah, apparently not.

the texans win was the best outcome
we already beat them soundly back when they had schaub.
