Ravens Name Dean Pees Defensive Coordinator

The Baltimore Ravens held a press conference earlier today and Baltimore Beatdown was there to take in all the news and ask a couple of questions. Head coach John Harbaugh announced that linebackers coach Dean Pees was named defensive coordinator and that offensive coordinator Cam Cameron would be returning next season.

On Pees, Harbaugh said that, "we go back a long way," referring to the time when Pees was the defensive coordinator in college at Miami of Ohio and Harbaugh was a defensive back. He also said, "the record speaks for itself," in reference to Pees time with not only the Ravens but the New England Patriots as well.

In the 62-year old Pees' 40 years in football, his resume prior to becoming linebackers coach on the Ravens included be on the staff of Nick Saban, Lou Holtz and Bill Belichick. Pees was obviously honored to be given this prestigious position, saying that he was pleased to be a defensive coordinator in this league, but "especially humbling to be one for the Baltimore Ravens."

(More to follow shortly with quotes from my direct questions to Coach Pees as well as the entire Press Conference transcript)

Congratulations Dean.

Cam: Time to get your shit together. Public opinion on you is already split. If you don’t have a damn good season next year watch your back.

Public opinion on you is already split.

I think that’s a very nice way to put it.

Is all you can do is highlight, and comment on everyone else’s posts?

Except when I post my own stories, I’m mostly responding to what’s already been written. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see how that works. In case you’re not keeping count at home, those three stories collectively have over 20 rec’s. One was promoted to the front page and amassed the better part of 300 comments. It’s not like you have much room to talk, either. Your five Fan Posts kill brain cells; I feel dumber just having read them.

Yep. Last time I checked, Cam lost about 9/2 in both Beatdown polls.

Dean Pees (what a great 80's porn name!)

We should still have an aggressive D. Most of our young players have shown improvement. The big question mark now is with the veterans.

Very good choice. Solid resume and hope he still focuses on getting after the QB.

On Ed Reed:
"I’ve told him to his face many times, ‘You’re the greatest safety ever to play the game,’"
"We all learn from each other, but we all learn most from him."

Good Hire

Happy for Pees. He should b used to handling aging players on a def. He did it at NE pretty well. I think Romeo was the best it at tho. Not looking forward to the next pats v. ravens match. Pees knows to much lol. :-)
