What losing Pagano means
Pretty much nothing. Lol.
While he was a great coach and was close to a lot of players...look at the history of defensive coordinators leaving the Ravens. Jack DelRio, Marvis Lewis, Rex Ryan, Greg Mattison..etc. Has our defense ever stunk? Not really we have historically been top 15 every year.
My point is that we still have our huge play makers/ leaders on defense. Which means were in good shape! Even if we lose Jarrett Johnson and/or McClain to free agency, we still have one the the BEST front offices in football. Do you really think they are just gonna let the Ravens have vacant holes? Nope. In Ozzie we trust. Look what he did last year with releasing Derrick Mason, Todd Heap, Kelly Gregg, Willis McGahee, and McClain. We didn't miss a beat and in fact I think we improved.
Same can be said with our next defensive coordinator, if they do bring in a new coach they will make sure he does it the Raven way. Don't fret Ravens fans, our organization doesn't have to rebuild every year, they reload.

Oh yeah that's right
And we also had problems with tackling, because the defense could not grasp the concept of the No-Hitter

Agreed. We still we be a very tough defense. I do hope however we stay more with the Rex/chuck style compared to the Mattison style.

You mean no prevent defense to match our prevent offense? Damn!

He had to take the indy job but i expect he won’t like it or last
Ravens D philosophy has to originate with the HC…and i don’t have faith in him…

Depends really.
If we went back to a Mattison type who was a decent coordinator but was helped a lot by top players it could be the difference between top 10 and top 5. We’ll still be good but Pagano was part of the reason we were as good as we were. That said we have the system in place and Ray Lewis will continue to do half the work so we’ll be good regardless. Top DCs like Pagano and Ryan just helped us go from good/great to exceptional.
there could be a big difference
if this means Ed Reed decides to retire. Remember Pagano recruited him out of high school. and when some one interviewed him after the Terps game last night (I got a picture of him btw! not close at all but totally made my evening) he plead the 5th. that does not sound promising to me. I know he didn’t have as many interceptions this year, but coaches still had to scheme for him. i’m sure that helped the rest of the secondary out

we can't lose jameel
I don’t want Ellerbe starting I saw how many tackles he missed vs. the Patriots.

Ellerbe will be fine. Give the guy some more playing time and he won’t look so rusty.

He has to stay healthy to get PT and he was a fixture on the injury report all season. I used to be pretty high on him, but honestly at this point I’ve lost confidence he can be anything more than a role player.
