Thanks for the memories Cam, but good riddance.
Cam Cameron has spent 4 years in Baltimore. In that time we have drafted a young quarterback from D1-AA, a running back that was "too small and not fast enough," and never really had a good enough receiving corps to protect either of these. In that time, we have won at least 9 games every year, won a playoff game in every year, and reached the AFC championship twice, both times with chances to win. That being said, it is time to move on. In every year since Cam has been here, the offense has finished no higher then 13th. This occurred in his first year, 2008. While he had one year in which he finished 9th in scoring, 2009, this stat can be skewed by defensive touchdowns, capitalizing on short fields (created by an elite defense), and special teams scores. These stats seem decent and good enough to win with the defense that the Ravens trot out on to the field year after year; however, they are not the reason Cam should be with another team this year. Its the little things are the reason. For example, running draws on third and 1's when he has at his disposal the best fullback in the game is just unintelligent. Running away from the best player on the field is just common football sense, but in the Patriots game this past sunday, Vince Wilfork's gap seemed to be the destination of every running play in the first half. This is not to take anything away from Wilfork, he played a hell of a game, but there are ways to scheme against dominant players. These examples are just from the Patriots game alone. Throughout the years, Cam has been unwilling to make adjustments during the game or even to his scheme to take advantage of defensive schemes or even to neutralize them. While I did like to see Joe Flacco making some reads and audibles during the Patriots game, it would benefit him to have an OC who encourages audibles as opposed to lives with them. Cam over-thinks himself trying to confuse defensive coordinators. Doing this, he becomes shockingly predictable. Finally, Cam's offense has no imagination. He refuses to run pick routes, crossing routes, and god-forbid we should see more then 1 slant per game. The last four years, Cam has been a decent offensive coordinator who has served well in developing and winning with a young offense. His time however has passed. Baltimore needs an offensive coordinator who has imagination, will let this be Flacco's offense, and has some play-calling skills.
The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!

I think Cam comes back
Besides a few plays, I thought his game plan was spot on for the last game. One example was the TD pass to Torrey, Cam knew they would be blitzing (NE loves to blitz on short downs) and Cam called a quick pass to Torrey, which we all know what happened after.
I think much of what we are upset about with Cam are those games where Rice saw less than 10 carries. The 2nd half of the season was pretty good on his part. Did Cam have his bad moments? Yes. However, think about what could have happened offensively in some of those games if the players executed like they should have (drops mostly).
Wouldn’t mind bringing in Hue Jackson as our QB coach once again and giving him the title of “Offensive Consultant” much like Al Saunders was.
Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.
Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang
I agree with you Malor and I think bringing cam back is the best decision right now . It would be cool to bring back Hue Jackson as the quarterback coach but I think he would be better as the wide receiver coach and getting Jim Caldwell( colts former head
coach)as quarterback coach
His first few series of
run, run, pass (3 and outs) was real vanilla for a game that it was and proved imperative to get an early lead. His body of work over the entire season should be his determining factor, not any one single game. With that in mind, it just is time, as more than likely no one would do any worse than he did, with there being way too much upside of bringing in a fresh mentality.

Exactly, for the past 3 years (I give him a ton of credit for 08, he did a good job) he has cost us games with his horrific play calling. Those games have cost us playoff positioning, and a Super Bowl appearance (in my opinion). His system flat out does not fit this team (or today’s NFL for that matter) and he fails to use the personnel to their strengths. There is not one reason at all to keep him. This team has had success despite him, not because of him.
NO WAY
cams offense can be implemented within the first 2 weeks of training camp. he will not be missed. i cant believe he makes 2 mil as a OC. what a joke!!!!! he should retire like billick so he wont be exposed for being a farse after he leaves the ravens D. billick doesn’t dare return to coaching.

I just commented below before reading this. As people know, I have defended Cameron more than most, but I do think it’s time for the offense to evolve past Cam. Just like Billick was the right coach for the Ravens at the right time, I think Cameron was good for the Ravens from 2008 till now, but just like Billick, I think the team needs a change—if for no other reason than a fresh face and new message.
After I saw Hue
throw his coaches and players under the bus, I cannot see him coming here, or perhaps anywhere other than to perhaps the college ranks.

Just watched the game again
That TD to Torrey was an audible
Flacco saw the all out blitz and called the hot read

That's good to know
so many people bash on Flacco for not seeing those things, but he’s just not as obvious as a guy like Manning when he makes an adjustment.
That’s great to hear.
On Ed Reed:
"I’ve told him to his face many times, ‘You’re the greatest safety ever to play the game,’"
"We all learn from each other, but we all learn most from him."
- Troy Polamalu
indeed
that’s the first sign of a truly dangerous quarterback.
If receivers improve their routes, and the O-Line improves its performance, I expect Joe to catch fire in more than just a few games next season.
He caught fire in several games this year despite some incredibly adverse circumstances; I’m really excited about his future.
"And, don’t get me started on Joe Flacco," Simms continued. "Did the experts watch the game? Joe didn’t miss a throw, not one. I watched every play. Every time he had the opportunity, he hit the guy. And, he made some moves so he could complete other throws. Are these people watching? What was Joe supposed to do with Texans in his face? Throw it up and hope? Sometimes a sack is a good thing. The object is to win the game. You did."
Audibles . . .
I remember Joe’s ability to audible being a topic of discussion of many threads over the past couple of years. Sometimes we questioned whether he was capable and other times whether he was even being allowed. After reading the recent analysis of the Ravens’ offense as a 1960’s offense and my own observation as to how slow our guys have been in getting to the line of scrimmage and wondering why that was the case (particularly late in games when we needed to get the ball moving), I now think I understand part of what has been going on. Cam Cameron is taking so much time to send a play in (deliberate or not) that Joe hardly ever has time to read the defense and audible when he should because the play clock is about to expire by the time they get to the line to run the play. It seems to me that Joe has played some of his best football during drives when we were so desperate for points to win or tie, that he had to take control and ended up showing his true capablilities (final drives in Pittsburgh and Foxboro). Maybe I am assuming that Joe took over here and Cam was really in charge. In any case, both Cam’s style and lack of imaginative play calling are problematic and I would like to see what our offense is capable of under a new OC. However, I certainly don’t want to take any steps backward and don’t know who is available that might be a good fit for us.
Michael Oher is so fast off the ball that he only appears to be off-sides.
I know for me personally that it’s more the philosophy of offense. As mentioned Cam did got better late in the year, but still the whole offensive philosophy is what I feel is the bigger problem than Cam himself. We simply do not have the pieces in order to get that consistent offense we are after in that system. If we stick with Cam I feel we need to make sure the O line gets better and we still need another consistent deep threat on the outside. I’m still for finding a new OC and even if it takes time to get used to the new system the offense can’t be anymore inconsistent than it was this season. I feel in the long run it will be better for the offense to be able to grow.
On Ed Reed:
"I’ve told him to his face many times, ‘You’re the greatest safety ever to play the game,’"
"We all learn from each other, but we all learn most from him."
- Troy Polamalu
You Should
Always be trying to improve your team. Middle of the road offense, which is what we have been the past four years leaves plenty of room for improvement. We have too many play makers on offense to be middle of the road: Rice, Boldin, soon to be Torrey, and the second best TE tandem in the league.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, but expecting different results. With Cam, we have done the same thing four years in a row and have gotten predictably, the same results. 2011 saw a little bit of improvement, but even that could not be called a well-oiled machine. I would really like someone to show me how the offense has improved for the better from 2008 to this season.
Y’all know where I stand on the Cam stays or goes issue.
"A little learning is a dangerous thing; Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring."
"The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug."
"God's whiskers! Your face is as hideous as the demon's in my storybook!"
"I never expected to see the day when girls would get sunburned in the places they do today."
"It's big for a reason."
For Pittsburgh fans, that's Pope, Twain, Rostand, Rogers and Megamind
Under Cam
Our offense rarely got into rhythm. We broke the huddle as late as possible. We were “predictable” according to Cam. Audibles consisted of Joe either switching to a stretch run play left or right, or Joe standing up on a run play and throwing the bubble/screen or slant. Every critical possession we never seemed to have a back up plan. Ex. 4 and 1, they’re anticipating the QB sneak, Joe needs to call a timeout because he doesn’t know what to do.
We use our timeouts because the play can’t get in fast enough. We don’t run man beater routes or pick plays. Our WRs can’t beat man coverage. We play complimentary offense. We play not to lose.

I count the many times that happen. I cant wait until the ravens get a new offensive coodinator so the truth can come to the light

I understand that we don’t really know what’s going on there, but like you said, it happened so many times that I just don’t see how it falls on anybody but Cameron.
Maybe once or twice its because there’s wind on your headset mic and it’s breaking up, or crowd noise is hindering Flacco’s ability to hear him, but with the number of times it has happened during Cameron’s tenure… I just have to think a lot of it is his fault.
"And, don’t get me started on Joe Flacco," Simms continued. "Did the experts watch the game? Joe didn’t miss a throw, not one. I watched every play. Every time he had the opportunity, he hit the guy. Look, Cam called a good game against the Pats.
But we are talking about the bigger picture here. After almost every game for the past four years, we have questioned multiple plays and situational play calling that has led to inconsistent results. With a team that boasts Ray Rice, Vonta Leach, Joe Flacco, Anquan Boldin, etc., we barely cracked the top half of offense in the league. That is unacceptable. Maybe without Cam, Brees and Rivers would not have been the players they are now. But like their situations, he needs to go so we can let Joe be the QB he wants to be.
Also, TIM TEBOW IS IN THE PRO BOWL BEFORE FLACCO, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!
So true
And neither Brees or Rivers flourished until they got away from him.
Good point

You right Evan and you should definately try to get a interview for the ravens head coach job. I be so excited cause I know you be able to get oprah winfrey to be the offensive coodinator, lil wayne as the defensive coodinator and bill cosby as the quarterback coach.
Puddin' pops!

We get Cam
You get Arians and we’ll both be unhappy and disappointed for another season.
I'd sooner get Flacco'd out here in the middle of nowhere than lose face in front of my friends and family.
So who do you have the Ravens taking in the first round? When are you going to share your mock drafts? Do they start over from scratch now that the team is such a mess?
Can I get some hot sauce for my doughnut?
Do they start over from scratch now that the team is such a mess?
The team is not a mess. I think the Ravens are setup better than any team in the AFC North.
The loss of Pagano hurts, but if Baltimore knows how to do anything, it’s find good defensive coordinators.
The Steelers, my friend, are a huge mess right now.
Ignore the troll… The pitt salary cap Is much more entertaining

because all Evan has said to him after the Pitt loss was mock draft this and Steelers mess that. Just another day at the BB.

No one will know for sure if either team is a huge mess until about week 6 next year. However, as OC said, that was just for Evan. It’s always funny to see the biggest shit talkers have to eat it.
Can I get some hot sauce for my doughnut?
Your entire shit talking fanbase ate it this season… Then ate what Tebow fed them. Your FO is handicapped and your QBs best years are behind him. Your roster isn’t impressive and the cap doesn’t go up much until 13.
You may have a couple pals over here of questionable intellect but no true Baltimore fan forgets what your mouth breathing, bandwagon fan base has to say about Flacco, RayRay or Baltimore.
You eat it, troll.
by Evan Skev on Jan 26, 2012 2:48 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
Whoever was lost to, it’s all the same, both teams ended the season as losers. All the other stuff you make up (including the ridiculous statement that the FO is handicapped, despite only suffering 7 losing seasons in 40 years, as opposed to 6 in 16 for another AFCN team). Qb’s best years are behind him? Your opinion/hope, more useless words. The cap situation isn’t as bad as you’d like it to be, more worthless projection of your hopes and dreams.
Now you have the nerve to insult your blog members again? They have questionable intellect? They have to feel like that’s a compliment coming from you.
And..it’s back to the old bag of tricks “mouth breathing, bandwagon” yep….wouldn’t it be easier to just say “I have nothing to say….ever”? Everyone knows it anyway, just admit it.
They don’t need to forget what I’ve said about Flacco, I’ll say it any time a discussion comes up. They are objective fans who realize that their players aren’t all perfect, you should take notes. They don’t get all sensitive about it like you, and I don’t get sensitive about their thoughts or criticisms about Pittsburgh players. I think that’s just part of being a man/normal human being, so I’m not surprised you don’t get it.
Oooh…troll….funny, you’re the only one on here that calls me that, however, more than a couple here call you that. Strange huh?
So…on to more important things. Mock draft? Who ya taking?
Can I get some hot sauce for my doughnut?
Fair enough. You’ll never receive any criticism from me for trolling our resident troll.

Made Offense Better but Cam Must Go for Ravens to Advance to Super Bowl
99%+ of playoff teams win the game when they are +2 in turnovers and have out gained the opponent by 50 yards or more. THAT WAS ONE OF THE MOST STUNNING DEFEATS IN NFL PLAYOFF HISTORY. The Raven defense again played its heart out as it has in the playoffs the previous 4 times the Ravens have gone and gave the offense 2 chances to win the game late.Consistent offensive deficiencies, including most of the playoff games we have won, tell me clearly we need to get someone new as the offensive coordinator if we ever realistically hope to get to a Super Bowl. Cam has done an admirable job getting the offense from the bottom quartile of the league to the middle of the pack but that is as far as he is obviously capable of doing based on multiple years of experience and mostly offensive and gut rentching failures in the playoffs. WE NEED TO GET SOMEONE NEW AS THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP.I have been a season ticket holder for 16 years and cannot even bring myself to watch any football stuff until likely the draft. After that horrible defeat we need some hope and some new ideas for the obviously better offensive player talent the Ravens have going into next season. We need someone the players and other coaches can give ideas to for consideration and do not want to let down and fail like we have had on defense!
Cam needs to go
That being said, the effect of losing both our offensive and defensive coordinators in one offseason could really take us back a step.
I noticed something of a trend with Cameron’s play-calling. First down: Rice run. Second down: Deep shot to Torrey down the sideline. Third down: Force the ball to Q no matter his coverage. Now when Joe did his own reads and his own version of plays, there was much more success. Just saying, I really think we should have an offensive coordinator and a seperate QB coach to help Flacco develop.

The first down Rice run is what always pissed me off. It should have been close to 50-50 for run and play action.
NE was selling out on every first down to stop Rice, and it worked.
daytime commentator. night time ninja.
didn’t help that Cam insisted on running Rice right into Wilfork’s belly… but it sounds like we’re keeping Cam because we had “a great year on offence.”
You all are going to HATE my post tomorrow (today). Please don’t skewer me too bad!
