Timeout On the Fieldgoal
I see talk of this, it's a waste of time. Everyone knew we needed to kick a GF if we didn't get a first. The ST unit was ready. They have probably kicks 100s of field goals with a normal play clock. I don't know why they took so long this time, but at the end of the day do you really ice you own kicker? It's better to just have billy go out there and kick a chip shot. Its all Billy's fault. He cracked. He will get released. That's all there is to it.

I was a TEAM loss, but
If someone asked me since the end of the regular season if I would have brought Billy Cundiff back, I would have said “no.” Cundiff had a poor year doing everything a kicker is asked to do. A POOR year. Not good or even average. POOR!
Cundiff’s kickoffs were consistently returned. His accuracy was HORRIBLE, his distance non-existent. He just signed a new 5-year contract in the off-season and obviously the team can use the cap space for a cheaper and better FA kicker.
In the NFL you are only as good as your last kick. The loss has nothing to do with it, he just has not been good all season and needs to be replaced.

1st I was rooting for the Ravens to win this game and the Superbowl
2nd I was thinking, why the hell doesn’t the HC call time out, it looked like he had a whole 3 seconds to line up and kick.
3rd if the kicker did feel like he was getting rushed at that point why wouldn’t he just let the play clock run out, and kick from 5 yard further back???
Just a horrible way to end a great game : (
I was hoping for the TO. Some have said that it would have been icing Billy, but I looked at as giving him time to collect himself and be set up the best he could. There is no denying that he was hurried to make that kick, you could see it as he lined up.
Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.
Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang
Belichick
Not icing Billy (and Belichick is known for doing that) may have been his best coaching move of the day; besides the not just QB sneak, but over the top leap by Brady knowing that either they were going to break the plane of the goal or turnover on downs. A fumble doesn’t really hurt the patsies in that case. Very shrewd call.

The way you stop that play is you hurt the QB.

I came on and teased everyone about the kick, but in all seriousness, calling a TO, getting it set up and letting the kicker visualize his moves probably would have been the best route to go. I would have enjoyed watching TB cry like a beyatch, and see hoodie scowl, Lee should have caught that ball.

Would've helped if Cundiff had the downs correct.
You can’t mess with routine. Everyone knows to leave kickers to their thing.

ray was 5 days late. he totally misread that. you can bundle that play up with the other game killers.
This.
Even if you give up the score, hit him as he jumps over the pile. Make sure he never, ever thinks about doing that again against your defense.

Brady was hit - in the back - by Ray Lewis
by profootballfan on Jan 24, 2012 12:06 PM EST up reply actions
Exactly.
And that’s why he’ll do it again. Meet him head on, hit him H2H, break his fucking face. I promise you he’ll never jump over a pile against your defense again.

...or just tackle him clean before he scores - that works just as well.

Giving up the score
is worth knocking Brady out/off his game. He’s going to turn himself into a RB, he’s going to get hit like one. Highly unlikely you stop the TD there. He had to move the ball forward a whole 6 inches.

A cheap hit on Flacco, as he runs out of bounds, would be worth it too ?
by profootballfan on Jan 24, 2012 1:06 PM EST up reply actions
How is that comparable at all?
What I’m calling for isn’t illegal. A QB wants to dive into the teeth of the defense for a score, he’s going to get bit.

I was good until I watched a Ravens show about the game.
I actually had a dream about the Ravens, which is a first for me. I’m a lot better now. Thanks for asking.

just the intent to injure thing - play it tough - play it clean

You dive face first into the defense,
you’re asking to get hurt.

Why do people have a hard time with the difference between trying to injure someone (i.e, Brandon Merriweather) and trying to hurt someone and make them think twice next time (what oc is talking about)

To be fair,
I wouldn’t be against doing both.

The hit on Brady absolutely was clean. He jumped up and he’s actually lucky he didn’t get hit in a worse/better? way. The “break his face” thing is probably part frustration at Brady getting ridiculous calls every year for absolutely nothing. Whenever I see him close to the refs during a flag I already know who its against.
That being said, I’d be cool with him getting hit H2H if he wants to be a running back just like any QB that thinks he’s a tough guy. Claiming a hit out of bounds is drastically different than what anyone here has mentioned so far as that is with the intent to injure another player and do it as cheap as humanly possible.

No, if he's going to dive head first,
I want him to be hit in the face. Like you say, at that point, he’s a RB, he’s fair game. He can be hit pretty much however we can. You need to make sure that he never even thinks about diving over the pile again.

Well, according to Roger Goodell, they aren’t running backs at that point….or maybe they are if the defensive player isn’t named James Harrison.
Can I get some hot sauce for my doughnut?
Eh,
I think there’s a pretty big difference between the two plays.

The hit on Brady was clean… never said it wasn’t.
Brady happens to be quite effective with the QB sneek, he hardly ever misses with it. Sunday he used it for a first down or two and twice on a Ravens goal-line stand where he picked up the TD on the second try. Brady went up and over for the score, Lewis was late to the ball but, made sure he hit Brady in the back for good measure. Brady hopped up and spiked the ball. All of it, good football in my opinion.

Here’s why Billy was running out late.
He is going to have even more nightmares than me about that kick.

He missed it. Done. Over. Knowing this now just makes me angrier that we didn’t take a TO. There wasn’t any trickery on the part of Gillette’s staff. Someone, anyone could have called the TO when they realized how rushed the FG unit was. With that much confusion coaches usually take a TO to get the right call and allow everything to go to plan anyways.
It’s done though. It’s now an unfortunate part of our post season history.

That type of thing isnt really all that uncommon in a game situation. Its only getting reported because of the severity of the mistake and how big the game actually was more than anything else. If it was week 2, you never hear about it unless someone complains about it.
I’ve also seen some other talk about Cundiff just not paying attention and the staff calling for him 6+ times and yelling at him about just not really being all there. That is a different story if that is true, but still something that wouldn’t get much, if any press in any other situation.

the facts
Do any of you bother to read & do some research before posting??
btw, I love how Brady taunted Ray, who was lined up in downtown Boston somewhere, by sticking the ball in his face as he scored his TD ;-)
Ray got a good whiff of Brady’s lower arse area on his cheap shot ;-)
