Ravens Trail 13-10: 2nd Half 'Open Thread'

PrintDespite giving up a lot of yardage to the New England Patriots, mostly on crossing patterns, the Baltimore Ravens are within striking distance, trailing 13-10 at the end of the first half. The Ravens have given up almost 200 total yards, with three-quarters of them to Tom Brady. The surprising stat is how many yards on the ground New England has been able to get (50+), with their only TD on a seven-yard run by Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis.
On the Ravens side of the ball, QB Joe Flacco has played solid, throwing for 162 yards on 11 for 16 passing, with one six-yard TD pass to TE Dennis Pitta. The Ravens had a chance to tie or perhaps go ahead at the end of the half but TE Ed Dickson dropped a pass on third and two which would have extended the drive.

Second half: Rice needs to step it up. 2.1YPC on 10 attempts is dismal.
Flacco needs to continue what he’s doing.
Hasn’t been much room for Rice to run though. Their DT’s have been eating our O line.

Now is the time for the Ravens to buckle in
because this is when Belichick makes his adjustments. He’s pretty darn good at it. For weeks, Pats have been more dominant in the second-half when they receive the ball to start it off. I expect some Tiquan Underwood trying to go deep for Brady.

I said before, I couldn’t believe BA covered Gronk well enough to ‘push’ him out of bounds. And that was within 2 mins. We had the ball at the 2 min warning I think.

Ravens are actually playing the Patriots well.
They aren’t giving up the big plays that New England has gotten in past games. The Patriots are being patient and taking what the Ravens are giving to them. If the Patriots are settling for FGs, then the defense did its job.

I’ll have to rewatch but that ball looked 10 yards out of bounds. That’s throwing it away. Scramble, run, check down, SOMETHING, not throw it out of bounds. Only thing worse would’ve been a pick.

yep. I am still trying to recover from the Steelers loss

Steelers fan here..The Ravens played a helluva game tonight. Back and forth and very exciting. I have a feeling you offensive coordinator’s days are numbered. There is no such thing as a 3rd and 3 draw play in today’s NFL…..there just isn’t.
I’m not rubbing it in when I say I feel your pain. Unbelievable and fluky way to end a game. I will be praying for that kicker. I can’t imagine what he feels like right now.

The Ravens hadn’t run a draw out of the gun all game, and they always threw on third down. They were running all over them. Frankly, it would have worked, but Birk got whipped and didn’t have the help I think he expected to have.

Course that means nothing because he didn’t get the W. Which is what the media will argue despite ignoring that argument from us for the last 2 years.
Even Brady said he sucked today, which he did. So what? Why does that mean Flacco’s game was somehow outstanding?

Mostly though I’m just not sure we can come this close again next year. This was our chance, it might just be the immediate post loss depression kicking in but damn if it doesn’t feel like our big shot just went wide left.

Just listening to the post game interviews with Harbaugh and Flacco; they are very classy and intelligent. I’m a Patriot fan but the call against Lee Evans at the end was questionable, certainly reviewable, and they handled it with rematkable sportsmanship. You guys have some class.

Broncos had 8 total yards in the first quarter, then Hampton & Kiesel went down. If Pouncey played there is no bad high snap at the end of the first half, Steelers get 3 & the game never goes into OT. They were missing so many starters it looked like the 2nd half of the last preseason game. Ravens were totally healthy in this one, & it was your starters that cost you the game.

One play, the bad snap at the end of the first half, if Pouncey is playing it never happens. We were too banged up starting with Ben. We still came out with the best D in the league, & that was without Woodley & Harrison playing barely any games together.
By the 2nd quarter we had 3 starters in the front 7 from opening day, I’d like to see how well the Ravens would do losing that many from their front 7, or not playing with suggs/ngata together for most of the year. We’ll be back next year, healthy, younger, & poised to make another run.
The Ravens will be older, slower, & still led by an average, at best, QB. They will still be inconsistent & choke in the biggest moments, like they do EVERY YEAR.
