Giants @ Packers: Game-Time 'Open Thread'

GREEN BAY, WI - JANUARY 01: A fan of the Green Bay Packers wears a frozen Lambeau Field hat during a game against the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field on January 1, 2012 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

With the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans game winding down, the final Divisional Round Playoff Game of the weekend takes us back to the NFC as the #1 seeded Green Bay Packers host the #4 seed, the New York Giants. The game is being played on the frequently mentioned frozen tundra of historic Lambeau Field. As great as the Giants looked last week in their virtual shutout of the Atlanta Falcons, this will be an entirely different game.

Going on the road to such a unique place against a prolific offense and the game's highest rated QB is a huge move up in class from a Matt Ryan led Falcons team that cannot seem to win a playoff game, or at least has never done so in "Matty Ice's" NFL tenure at the helm.

Keep it here on this "live" 'Open Thread' to post your thoughts and comments to see who will be the San Francisco 49ers opponent in the NFC Championship Game next Sunday.

He needs to stay away from Haynesworth.

That’s the guy that injures him.

Imagine if Pats kept Haynesworth,

he never ends up in Tampa, never hurts Schaub, and the Ravens got to deal with Shaub instead of Yates. Send your thank-yous to New England.

or do games look so much better on Fox?

by YeahDonnie on Jan 15, 2012 5:02 PM EST via Android app reply actions

If you’re comparing it to CBS, yes. NBC, no. ESPN….i don’t know, I’m too busy asking myself why the f the two teams that are on are on prime time.

Can I get some hot sauce for my doughnut?

by FrankWyt on Jan 15, 2012 5:04 PM EST up reply actions

Well, yeah I meant compared to CBS

Most Ravens games are on CBS, and I usually watch the Red Zone channel when the Ravens aren’t on during the year, so seeing this game on Fox, it looks much better than what I’m used to

by YeahDonnie on Jan 15, 2012 5:19 PM EST up reply actions

Big market/fanbase teams are always gonna get the edge over two tough contenders.

Eli and Rodgers air it out and the NFL wants to show that part of the game more than the bruising.

by Roa on Jan 15, 2012 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

But the thing is, that’s not how MNF works. Seattle vs St Louis? KC, Jax. It’s just a mess. It’s pretty much sucked almost the whole time since moving to ESPN

CBS/NBC/Fox don't want to give up those big games either though.

I’m sure there fight behind the scenes between television providers for scheduling is as fierce as it is on the field. That is why sometimes it doesn’t make sense.

by Roa on Jan 15, 2012 7:50 PM EST up reply actions

Oh for sure, it still puzzles me that they can’t at least get the second best match up of the weekend for ESPN, as opposed to the 16th best (or 14th on bye weeks)

Reed rolled his ankle but will be good to go. Keys to the game was defense, no penalties, no turnovers.

giants ball again, holy crap

i'm from the insignificant country Joe Namath, Pete Gogolak, and George Halas is from.

by waryou303 on Jan 15, 2012 5:16 PM EST reply actions

So far, my prediction above is remaining true.

GreenBay needs to open the second half strong. McCarthy doesn’t seem to trust his defense and I don’t blame him. Despite the score, GB is lucky the refs made that fumble disappear.

It is what it is

by Middlesex on Jan 15, 2012 6:14 PM EST up reply actions

As a rule, I don't like NY teams

But man I am rooting for the Giants. All the offense heavy teams with shitty defenses need to lose to a team that sticks it to them with a good D. SF shut the door (well technically by winning) on the high flying Saints. Now it’s the Giants turn. Next week the Patsies need to go down. Goodall may like 5000+ yd passing seasons and rules to give the O all the advantages, but that is sissy ball.

As a fan...

of the Giants who grew up in the LT era, I totally agree with this.

GB is really coughing up the ball. I had a feeling that NYG would pull this out. They are playing complete football. Wrote this on the prediction thread, they’re just a team that caught fire and put it all together in the last few months. I think other than us, NYG are the most complete team left. And Manning is backing up his talk from earlier in the season by playing great.

Ravens. Must win game #2 coming up

Where are all the Rodgers fans?

by Evan Skev on Jan 15, 2012 7:39 PM EST via mobile reply actions

We have a 1/4 chance of it.

I’m not just saying that because there are 4 combinations either, the match ups seem incredibly even to me, we’ve got 4 great teams who could easily win it right now.

by Roa on Jan 15, 2012 7:55 PM EST up reply actions

That would be awesome.

It’s basically a “Fuck you!” to the NFL.

by mookie_20 on Jan 15, 2012 7:59 PM EST up reply actions

Giants look pretty unstoppable today

As unstoppable as the Pats looked yesterday.

The Ravens looked all too stoppable today, unhappily. Then again, they were playing against a heckuva defense.

But of the four team left, honestly the Giants look like they are playing the best ball right now on both sides of the ball. Bradshaw and Jacobs are running like they were at their best in years past. Mixing that running with Eli making good decisions throwing to Cruz and Nicks makes for a very potent offense in addition to their ferocious pass rush.

I hope the 49ers can beat them.

by Sam25 on Jan 15, 2012 7:55 PM EST reply actions

On the other hand don’t you think Ray Lewis meeting the Giants again in the Superbowl would be a good storyline?

“… And they didn’t score on us. Make sure you quote that. They didn’t score on our defense.” Let them try it again.

What a sending off that would be. Repeat of his previous career high.

by Roa on Jan 15, 2012 7:59 PM EST up reply actions

I called this game earlier and said the Giants would destroy the Packers. Rodgers has looked good all season while playing dud teams. Once he got some serious pressure in his face and a decent secondary, he folded. Rodgers was throwing balls off the mark, walking into pressure and just plain looked mediocre today.

Now the 49ers should take care of business against the Giants next week and we take care of business against the Pats and its Harbaugh Bowl!!! Oh yeah, and to any Pitt fans, hows that Gatorade shower sound right about now?

All in good fun, frank… Enjoy the offseason and good luck in the draft.

Do you think colbert cleans house now since last year’s reload strategy proved to be flawed?

by Evan Skev on Jan 16, 2012 3:02 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

I realize that was another failed attempt at humor, but I have a question. If the Ravens lose to the Patriots, or lose the Super Bowl, would you say their strategy is flawed?

Just funny to see all those Steeler fans get so annoyed at the Gatorade showers earlier in the season. Maybe us liking and respecting our coach lead us to where we are at now and maybe those Gatorade showers have a little to do with that as well.

Either way, its just funny to see what you all think about them now that we are playing the Pats for the SuperBowl

by Mstevens_Design on Jan 16, 2012 10:24 AM EST up reply actions

as hard as it may be to believe, it has nothing to do with who did it. No one is annoyed, they just think it’s a joke. If it was a team not called the Ravens, the opinion wouldn’t change. Being in the championship game doesn’t change anything either, and if you win the Super Bowl, how much would the shower mean then?
I don’t think you liking or respecting your coach has anything to do with the team’s success

No one cares what you or any other pitt fan thinks. Very few of you have the good sense to give credit where it’s due and you never miss a chance to disparage Flacco or the Ravens…

You’re entitled to an opinion, FrankWyt… But why are you wasting it over here instead of working on your mock draft or cheering on the pasterisks*

by Evan Skev on Jan 16, 2012 4:27 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

No one cares

You should change that. It should read “I don’t care”. I know this will be hard for you to understand, but when someone asks a question like this.

and to any Pitt fans, hows that Gatorade shower sound right about now?

That means that he cares about what I think, since he asked how it sounds, and I’m a Pittsburgh fan. Hopefully you’re not lost yet.

Very few of you have the good sense to give credit where it’s due and you never miss a chance to disparage Flacco or the Ravens…

Really? Of course that’s not true, that’s another product of your wild imagination. If you could though, I’d like you cite at least one example of me saying a negative word about the Ravens that wasn’t their childish behavior/thin skin.
I absolutely give credit where it is due. Ray Rice on offense, and the entire defensive unit. You are a sensitive little girl, so you confuse giving honest and objective assessments that are in no way influenced by the team he plays on with “being haters” or whatever teenage term you constantly use. The thing that makes it more obvious that you’re a sensitive little girl, is your response is related to my team. You accuse people of “not having facts”, but they show you facts, and voila, right back to the retarded “insults” and “jokes”.
People criticize Flacco, because he’s deserving of criticism. By your logic, I’d always say bad things about Ray Rice too, but, I haven’t.

Also, if anyone is wasting their time here, it’s you. Everybody hates you. That will not change no matter how many times you type the exact same thing. Now I’m going to go ahead and type your response out ahead of time, save it in a wordpad file, then send it so we can compare notes.

Exactly what I’d expect. you have nothing to say ever. I just wonder if your life is as empty as your head. Just kidding, no I don’t. It’s obvious.

You care, that’s why you always respond. Now get me my refill or I’m taking a dollar off the tip
