Saints @ 49ers: Game-Time 'Open Thread'

Most fans of the Baltimore Ravens will be rooting for head coach John Harbaugh's brother, Jim, to extend the San Francisco 49ers season and beat the visiting New Orleans Saints this afternoon on the west coast. This game is a tale of two completely different teams, one that prides itself on old-school Ravens-style defense and the other with an explosive offense that just dares you to try to outscore them.

Post your comments live in this 'Open Thread' as this game progresses to see who advances to the NFC Championship Game and whether they will host the New York Giants or travel to play the Green Bay Packers. Although it would be sweet to see a rematch of the Thanksgiving "Har-bowl" in the Super Bowl (or "Super HarBowl"), I have already predicted the Saints will score enough points to force the Niners to play catch-up and take them out of their comfort zone.

We'll see soon enough, so sit back, enjoy the game and keep it here on Baltimore Beatdown!

Rooting for the Harbs

Normally I wouldn’t give a damn who won this game, but I know John Harbaugh is rooting for his bro’, so I shall do the same. It’s the least I can do, and I pride myself on always doing the least I can do!

Besides, it’s high time that the Saints ran into a real defense.

I am not, however, rooting Jim H. due the the possibility of the two Harbs meeting in the Super Bowl. I refuse to think that far ahead. It’s trite but true – one game at a time.

What say we beat the Texans before thinking about anything else? To do otherwise would be a jinx, and the last thing we need is a jinx. It’s bad enough that Denver has God on its side throughout the playoffs. We don’t need to additionally do ourselves in with untimely jinxing, do we?

Eh,

I thought

there was some mutual hand fighting, but the DB did a good job waiting for the ball.

To me, it looked like Graham wasn’t able to raise his right arm on his initial turn because the DB was either too close or holding it down.

To be fair,

the problem there was thinking he had time to wait for his receiver to get open. It’s 3rd down, it’s Gregg Williams, you need to know the blitz is coming. The 3rd down was Ginn’s fault though. Not on the same page as Smith on 1st down.

I mean I also hate how he draws so much attention to the fact that he’s Christian. There’s no problem with praising God for you achievements, it’s just he overdoes it a bit in my opinion.

Same here

I used to hate him as well but after all the hate towards him these days, I’m beginning to root for him. He also won me my fantasy league this year so I think it’s only fair to give him a little break.

I don't hate him

but I do see your point. Actually, the guy doesn’t give up. He always tries as hard as he can. I respect that. What I hate, is the media hype, and that’s not him, its the media. Typical.

Yeah like the media has made it to where I’m rooting for the Pats tonight just so I don’t have to hear about him. And like whats the deal with everyone making a big to-do about his 316 passing yards? It’s surely coincidental.

You realize if Denver wins, they have to come here for the championship game, right?

What a stupid play call. You don’t need to get cute to win the game, especially not in the playoffs.

2 minute warning Saints need a TD to win.

Ball on the 22.

What do you guys think? With how the game has gone, I’m going with a Brees fumble recoved by the Niners to seal it.

Evening Gents!

Just watched the Niner’s get the go ahead score.

Alex Smith is an idiot

Game would be over now if he just TOOK A KNEE at the one on that long run.

Saints only had one timeout left. 9ers would have just kicked a FG to win as time expired.

False.

There was 2:12 or so left. Time out, 2 min warning, kick a field goal with 1:20 on the clock. They needed one more first down after the run.

What a fucking game!

I’m glad it didn’t go into OT so I didn’t have to miss the other game. During the playoffs they should have them a little further apart so an OT game doesn’t bleed over into the next game.

by YeahDonnie on Jan 14, 2012 8:13 PM EST via Android app reply actions

Difficult to do.

They want the NE game in primetime, but it can’t start too late. Likewise, SF being 3 hours behind means that game can’t start too early.

What a game. What a 4th quarter. I hope the next game is just as entertaining.
Congrats to the 49ers and the Harbaugh family. Talk about turning a franchise around.

The honeymoon is over

Looks like God has deserted Tim T. Unless this turns into a NO-SF game, it’s already over.

Very happy to see the 49ers win that game. Congrats to the team, to Alex Smith and especially to Vernon Davis. It really makes me proud to be able to say that I played against Vernon Davis in highschool and that he threw me like a rag doll in that game on his way to a touchdown reception.

It was insane man. I was lined up as an OLB and he just ran up, picked me up and threw me 5 yards on the first play. I’m a big guy and I don’t get pushed around ever, so it was absolutely astounding to see another kid my age just manhandle me the way he did. I knew at that time with his speed and size, he was going to be an NFL player.

But back on track… Alex Smith was the laughing stock of the NFL just a few years ago and here he is looking really solid and making good decisions. With another WR and maybe a little more trust and some more time in 1 system, he will be a really good QB.
