A few reasons why the Texans will win Sunday
1. ANDRE JOHNSON – he didnt play last time around, so we were a 1 dimensional team. That was the only reason the Ravens were successfull against Arian Foster.
2. DEFENSE – last time the Texans faced the Ravens they were still getting to know the new 3/4 system. Also we had just lost Mario Williams. Now the Texans defense is scary, I gurantee at least one sack fumble! We got 4 sacks last week vs a OL that gave up the 4th lowest sacks in the NFL
3. ARIAN FOSTER – Andre will open up Arian Foster for a great game. Last week he went 153 rushing 29 receiving. Try and Blitz on 3rd down and watch the screen with Foster in the open field. Either way rushing or passing Foster will have over 150 yards.
Last time the Texans were in the game until the 4th quarter with out Andre Johnson in the game. I see this as a very close game vs two really good teams. The Texans MUST contain Ray Rice if they want to win. Thats IF the Ravens even decide to use Rice in their game plan.
Who ever controls the inside line will win the game, because that will open up everything else. The Texans have the momentum and a GREAT win….I smell and upset this Sunday!!

Wow
What a homer. Try to be atleast slightly objective there turbo.
Ravens vs Texans all time record 5-0
Ravens record at home this year 8-0
Ravens vs playoff teams this year 6-0
Anyone seeing a pattern?

don't forget
Ravens under Harbaugh after a bye: 4-0
And patterns continue forever. Fantastic argument.
The only thing that matter is the game you are playing right now.

Oh give me a break. And the argument above is “we didn’t have AJ last time, so we’re going to win this time”. I guess it makes sense to me. Its not like we’ve gone up against WRs like Wallace, Holmes, Green, etc. But then again, we were only able to stop them because they didn’t have a 3rd string rookie QB throwing to them right?
by StuckInUtah on Jan 11, 2012 11:18 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
There was more to the argument than that-and if you don’t think you’re going to be changing the way your defense covers with Johnson there, then I truly believe you’re wrong and that it would be foolish on the Ravens part. Johnson is the best, plain and simple. And not having him for a majority of the season did hurt us…because he is also the heart of our team.

Umm..
I understand what you’re saying, but we went undefeated without Lewis this year.

We didn’t have Ray for part of the year. We went 4-0.
On Ed Reed:

Ummm...Lewis was only gone for your last 4 games.

Which is why I said the only game that matters is the one you are playing now. A bunch of new factors on both side in this game means this will be a different game.
Also, Wallace, Green and Holmes aren’t in the same UNIVERSE of athletic talent that Andre Johnson is, so that comparision is completely absurd.

Except for who was throwing to them. Roethlisberger > Yates (not even f’n close). Dalton > Yates (if it wasn’t for Newton he’d be ORoY). Sanchez = Yates (sounds about right)
by StuckInUtah on Jan 11, 2012 11:57 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
I’d take Yates over flaky Flacco. Yates is young and improving. Flacco has had opportunity after opportunity and refuses to deliver when you need him the most. As a Ravens fan, I’d be begging for someone new. The rest of your team deserves a better QB.

How many Super Bowls did Brees, Brady, Manning, or Rodgers win in their first 4 years? 0. Their fans should have been “begging for someone new” right?
On another note, neither Brees, Brady, Manning, or Rodgers won as many regular season games, or playoff games (all on the road by the way) in their first four years as Flacco. But you’re right, Joe’s a lost cause….

Okay here's a question
If your biggest argument is that Johnson suddenly tips this game in the Texans favor, why are the Texans 0-5 all time against the Ravens? Unless somehow they’ve just never had to play against him, which is not the case, why is he now the X factor? Please explain.
You like Thai? Tie good. You like shirt?
Ummm…our defense was 30th in the league last year. We’re now 2nd. That’s why we’ve lost every year.
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the
line or the other. I don't want to ever leave Texas again." - Former Houston Oilers coach, Bum Phillips
But Johnson played last season
IN HOUSTON and they still lost the game. I’m still curious how he totally changes things
You like Thai? Tie good. You like shirt?
And last year our defense sucked.
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the
line or the other. I don't want to ever leave Texas again." - Former Houston Oilers coach, Bum Phillips
Playing IN HOUSTON didn’t magically make our defense better.
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the
line or the other. I don't want to ever leave Texas again." - Former Houston Oilers coach, Bum Phillips
So then is it your defense
or Johnson that will be the reason Houston wins?
You like Thai? Tie good. You like shirt?
It’s BOTH. Why would it have to be one thing or another? It’s that we have a very well rounded team that would win us the game. We’re strong offensively and defensively now. In years past, our offense has been sorely overshadowed by our poor defense.
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the
line or the other. I don't want to ever leave Texas again." - Former Houston Oilers coach, Bum Phillips
Just asking because you said
We were without Johnson for the majority of the year (9 full games…some partial).
So I thought this was your argument for why the Texans would win
You like Thai? Tie good. You like shirt?
Sorry. Wasn’t meaning to come across rudely. I just think that it is hard to compare our other game with you from this season to the one on Sunday because Johnson does make a difference…as well as the other things I mentioned.
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the

I think whichever team manages to run the ball
is going to have the advantage in this matchup. Having Andre helps to open the running game for Foster and Tate. Harder to stack the box with a legitimate beast receiver testing the secondary.

And Yates over Flacco? Seriously?
Come on, that’s just ridiculous. He’s a rookie 5th rounder who’s only playing because your starting and second string QB went down to injury.
You like Thai? Tie good. You like shirt?
He showed poise on Saturday…and has never lost a playoff game. :)
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the

That's a valid point
You should cut that scrub Schuab and go with T.J. Come to think of it…Brady, Brees, and Rogers are all garbage too.
You like Thai? Tie good. You like shirt?
Hate Tbone…just because I’m tired of hearing about him. He’s a one season wonder who won’t be a QB for long.
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the
line or the other. I don't want to ever leave Texas again." - Former Houston Oilers coach, Bum Phillips
Take that back. If football games get shortened to one quarter, I’ll take him. Of course, then there wouldn’t technically be a last quarter…so maybe that wouldn’t work.
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the

What a conundrum
Maybe use him as a super substitute?
Perfect
He’d be like a relief pitcher.
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the

There would still be a last quarter if there's only one quarter.
The only way to ensure there is no last quarter is to remove quarters all together. There will always be a last time period in which he can excel.

Oh c’mon. You have to take everything with a grain of salt. Do I like Yates? Yes. Do I think he had done an incredible job bringing us to where we are under the circumstances? Yes. Do I think he’ll be able to perform under the pressure in Charm City. I don’t know, but last game gave me every indication that it’s possible. Do I think Yates is comparable to Brees, Brady, Rogers? No, he’s a rookie with some kinks to work out. Do I think Flacco is comparable to Brees, Brady, Rogers? No. So I don’t need Yates to be that good…yet. I just need him to be better than Flacco. And his QB rating in the last game makes me think it’s possible if our offense protects him and keeps him from feeling serious physical and mental pressure.
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the

Flacco CAN be a great QB. But his past playoff showings haven’t been stellar. And that gives me hope.
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the

Well that statement is a far cry from
“I’ll take him over flaky Flacco any day.” Thanks… I think. :P
You like Thai? Tie good. You like shirt?
Lol. Your welcome. :) You just have to understand that we Texans have to work with what we’ve got. And that’s a 3rd string QB (with a separated non-throwing shoulder) who has managed to keep us rolling.

Gotchya. I'm all for competitive banter
but at least for a second you’d have to admit it’s hard to take a fan base seriously saying they will come into our house and win when not only have they just made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, they finally compiled a winning record for the first time in franchise history. A 10 year history to boot no?
You like Thai? Tie good. You like shirt?
I can completely agree that if the situation was reversed I’d feel confident. Your team has had a great year, you’re hungry for it, and you have home advantage after an extra week of rest. But, the stars seem to be with us this year, and we’ve persisted despite everyone saying that we couldn’t. We have a great roster, full of players that come up with big plays in the right moments. We’re excited… and nothing seems impossible right now.

I do indeed. Thank you sir. I’ll take all the luck we can put together. I’d offer you luck as well, but I have a feeling you’d tell me you don’t need it. ;)

True. But past patterns mean we’re going to come into this playing hard. The Texans know they’ll have to play a nearly perfect game because the Ravens will capitalize on any mistakes and we have something to prove.

The ravens defense is in the top five in total def running def pass def and THIRD in the NFL in least points per game they eat rookie qbs only given up 100 yards on the ground to a rusher only twice (we did face many good ones this year) and cant see any reason why this week will be any different from week 6 texans have rookie qb baltimore has t-sizzle better luck next season houston it was a good run try to stay healthie and maybe you can lose to us again next year god bless the (oh thats denver) a fan of theMIGHTY BALTIMORE RAVENS!!!! From ESPN
And although T.J. Yates is a concern against a defense as good as Baltimore’s, Joe Flacco isn’t a guaranteed good performer in a big setting. In seven playoff games, he’s hit on only 53.3 percent of his passes, he’s thrown four touchdowns and seven picks, and he’s had a 61.6 passer rating.
BULLS ON PARADE!!!!!!
We shall see.
Flacco’s playoff numbers are marred by: a) being a rookie for 3 of his 7 games, b) having been so injured after the oakland game in 2009 that he couldn’t even sit down on the flight home, thus causing him to attempt only 10 passes in NE and be completely useless against Indy, and c) last year he was good against KC and just got plain beat by Pittsburgh.
You don’t have to take my word for it, but I’m pretty sure Joe will put together a good game Sunday.

" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the

also don't forget
The Raven’s were able to beat the #1 def in the league twice. With the second win coming in their house with under 2 min play and all of their starters on def.
The Texans on the other hand lost three straight with 2 of those coming at home to end the season. The 3rd loss was caused by choking on the door steps of a 1 win team with the game on the line. I don’t understand your logic of how an offense will react. How will the Texans’ offense do against the 3rd ranked def at home?
You have TJ Yates this time around
Nothing else needs to be said. Sad thing is, you all know this.
aka 'Rexx'
No doubt this will be a brutal test for the young QB.
All signs point to a Ravens victory if you objectively look at the matchup and the home field advantage.
Of course, if you objectively looked at the Denver game, Pittsburgh should have won….
…and that’s why they play the games.

Andre to Jacoby is a bigger drop off than Schaub is to T.J.
So that already make us a better team than last time. And our defense is was better this time around. Flacco WILL fumble the football!
BULLS ON PARADE!!!!!
Im not saying its going to be easy, or the Texans will blow out the Ravens, but the Texans will win!
I’d agree the dropoff may not be as significant, but rookie QBs don’t tend to do so well against the Ravens D, especially at M & T Stadium.

How does TJ Yates respond to the vaunted Ravens pass rush?

Which Joe Flacco shows up?

I don't really agree with that
at least not purely based on passing. Andre helps our run game immensely though.
Watch me all in flames, on a butterfly I ride
Andre to Jacoby is a bigger drop off than Schaub is to T.J.
You got to 10 wins with Schaub and without Dre for the most part. Put Yates in there and suddenly you’re losing to teams like Carolina and Indy.
If you were honest with yourself you’d understand that QB, no matter what, is the most important position in the game, regardless.
I love it knowing that there are a handful of Ravens fans in this area who despise the fact that Joe will be our QB for the next 10 years. --Mr. MaLoR
Correction, we got to 7 wins with Schaub.
I've got nothin'...
ergo: "for the most part"
You went 7-3 with Schaub. You went 3-3 without him.

Last 2 losses were inconsequential...
Only one of those losses really falls on TJ and the team. The Panthers game. They were surprisingly tough to beat. I think the whole hooplah about getting to the post season for the first time may have gotten in their heads.
I’m hoping that doesn’t happen on Sunday.
I've got nothin'...
They definitely had a clenching the division hangover.

I love it knowing that there are a handful of Ravens fans in this area who despise the fact that Joe will be our QB for the next 10 years. --Mr. MaLoR
That's definitely possible and not something I've overlooked.
But I think the guys on the team understand the magnitude of the forthcoming game more than the Panthers game. Getting 1st or 2nd seed would’ve been an uphill battle anyway considering the pats, ravens, and texans were all tied in the first place. Wish we would’ve gotten it, but I kinda like that the texans had an extra game to play. More experience for a team with 0 playoff experience.
I've got nothin'...
the big thing for me is...
A lot of your Texans fan buddies have been acting like you get a mulligan for all three of those final games beause Kubiak knew he wasn’t going to get the #2 seed and rested everybody, and that’s just not true.
I love it knowing that there are a handful of Ravens fans in this area who despise the fact that Joe will be our QB for the next 10 years. --Mr. MaLoR
Well for the Titans game, it's certainly true.
The Colts game not as much… he didn’t rest the players. But at the same time, he closed the play book and wasn’t concerned with getting the W. He’s said so in one of his press conferences, I believe.
I've got nothin'...

You raven fans will be fustrated all game. You will be wondering why your team was unprepared to play. Why they could never get anything going on both sides of the ball. It’s supposed to be that way Take all stats and players away…There is something about this Texans team. That same “something” that your ravens had when they won the superbowl. 49ers are the dark horse feel good story of the year for sure.
But we’ve lost Mario, had Johnson out for most of the season, and are on our 3rd string QB. However, 49ers are definitely a great story and I’m rooting for them against the Saints.

Unfortunately I have to agree that they are definitely up there. A few have been decent, but there has been a number just stating ridiculous stuff. I have no problem with teams displaying confidence, but you would think the Texans are the clear cut favorites and that they killed us last game. I actually didn’t mind the Texans team at all. I have watched them a lot and enjoy their style of play, but some of these fans have really made me want to root against them in the future.
On Ed Reed:

I don’t think any Texan fan thinks we’re the clear cut favorite. Home advantage and a similar defense clearly make you the favorite. But there’s nothing wrong with believing your team can overcome obstacles when they’ve done it all year.

I love it knowing that there are a handful of Ravens fans in this area who despise the fact that Joe will be our QB for the next 10 years. --Mr. MaLoR
Absolutely
I actually liked the Texans before this week. Good God these fans are arrogant and uninformed.
How am I being arrogant? On numerous occasions I have said that I respected your team, respected Rice, and respect the season you played which got you the bye. I think you deserve happiness after the horrible way you lost your team years ago. I think our 2 defenses will be AMAZING to watch going head to head if they both bring their “A” game. Do I have to say I think your team has it in the bag to not be arrogant?
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the
line or the other. I don't want to ever leave Texas again." - Former Houston Oilers coach, Bum Phillips
There are some of those in any fan club...
But it seems to me like the majority of us just want to see a little bit of respect. Saying the season’s game doesn’t matter and that statistics don’t matter isn’t a bad thing. Neither arrogant nor uninformed. Things like that simply don’t matter in the playoffs. The only statistics that matter are the ones produced on Sunday.
I've got nothin'...
They may not tell the whole story
but they certainly can give you things to look at that can affect the upcoming game. Some of you guys are saying ignore the 29-14 win, ignore us being 8-0 at home, ignore our record after a bye, ignore everything that would favor us, then out of the other side of their mouth they say “HEY LOOK AT FLACCO’S STATS FROM THE PLAYOFFS WHEN HE WAS A ROOKIE, TEXANS WILL KICK ASS THIS WEEK”
Can’t have it both ways.
All I care about are the stats from this weekend. People can always pick and choose statistics that favor them. So, actually, the only statistic I need on Sunday is a W in the Texans column. :)
" I done drew the line. Just like the Alamo. You're either on one side of the
line or the other. I don't want to ever leave Texas again." - Former Houston Oilers coach, Bum Phillips
The previous game isn't to be overlooked...
But it’s also not something I’d hang my hat on. Just like any other metrics. They’re fun to look at and say “That’s possible”, but I wouldn’t bet money based on trends. Just my personal MO, I guess.
And you’re absolutely right. If you’re going to completely discredit the Ravens win earlier in the season, you can’t look at any other metrics regarding playoff stats or anything else. I try to be judicious in how I regard upcoming football games. Give respect to the past, but don’t take it as red letter.
I've got nothin'...
You haven't met any Titans fans then, or cowgirls...

To be super-duper cereal, this should be a close game. I don’t expect to fully shut down Andre, but I don’t think it’s likely he kills us by himself. We have to double team him in some way, which I’m actually looking forward to seeing how we try. Webb + safety help? I don’t like Webb on him mostly because Andre has 5 or so inches on him, but regardless I want to see more jamming at the line. Too many times this year and even in the wild card round esp. Pitt/Den, there is so much soft zone coverage and that’s how I see people get burned. Jam at the like and knock them off of their route, doing so throws of the rhythm and timing of QBs and receivers and most of all gives the pass rush more time to collapse the pocket.
As far as Foster, he’ll probably get his yards and such but we’ve shut him down before. Before you say that’s because of his injury, remember Leach, yea, he brought and taught our team the same zone blocking scheme HOU runs. We’ve deployed it this year ourselves and understand it.
For those of you that say history between these two teams doesn’t matter, that’s just a way to ignore or block out the recent dominance that Balt has had over HOU. History is a trend and we can use that as an accurate indicator to determine out comes in football and in everyday life. That’s why they make us study that crap in school, it’s usefull to determine future outcomes by looking at the past.
Btw, as of right now it’ll be a toasty 34 degrees come this Sunday, yea I went that far.

You’re saying “yawn” because you have a hard time reading anything over a paragraph long, and then you turn around and call it “elementary writing”. Real classy my friend, real classy. Hey, Stuck in utah pretty cool taking up for your little buddy. I wish I had a mentor like you. Well I did once, then he took an arrow to the knee and had to retire. I still talk to him from time to time but its not the same since we dont communicate that often. Connect-the-dots puzzles as you would call them are not my thing anymore, but even if he did include them in his next post, I would still yawn. You see, we could break down the X’s and O’s of this game coming up on Sunday but it really wouldn’t make sense to. You Ravens fans dont have the knowledge or insight of the game we call football.

Yup, you sure do come across as someone who understands the “X’s and O’s” of football. Why else would you respond to posts with “yawns” and lame ass “arrow to the knee” jokes? Run along, grown ups are talking.

And it’s quite true that if you understood football whatsoever, you’d actually talk about it instead of insulting one’s intelligence. Guess I’ll have to go back to school ’cause you think I need it.

I appreciate your hospitality good sir.
Speaking of douche. I was was watching my wife do this the other day and it reminded me of the Texans putting 5 LB’s on the field at one time. Wade Phllips is a sly old dog. Do you think he will do this again to try and stop R. Rice and have your sub par qb try and beat us?
My attitude is like a virgin......I dont give a fuck!
Torrey Smith would be sending Wade a large thank you
in the form of the cloud of dust that would magically appear in front of Wade off our turf field. Please, please stack the box. Do what the Steelers did to Tebow.

I think Wade Phillips is a smart guy and probably won’t use that formation, since it’s primarily used for edge containment. 2-5-4 sounds real fancy though if you don’t bother to explain the contexts its used in.

My Dearest Jack,

I think Webb makes sense. History also had us at #30 in defense, which we clearly aren’t now. Only Sunday can tell what the future holds. I expect a very good game, the kind that’s fun to watch because you’re on the edge of your seat. I have faith in my Texans to make a run for it, pun intended…muahaha, but I’ll be rooting for the Ravens to make/win the Superbowl if you come out victorious on Sunday.

Webb has really come into his own, I just don’t see him matching up well size wise with Andre. Webb has the speed to cover for sure, I’m just looking forward to Andre vs. whatever our secondary does to contain him. Webb’s been statistically our best corner and IMO an MVP of our D this year. Earlier on in the season he was blitzing off the edge a good amount too and I hope we use him similarly/creatively this weekend.

I get the best on the best part. Andre’s size and strength are superior to Webb’s. I really think with Andre you have to jam him at the line all damn day and make him work to get into his routes a la Finnegan….I’m sure Texans fans hate that guy but you have to push a WR out of his routes. Will be a good matchup regardless.

I don't think Texans fans are upset that you guys think you will win.
But more the fact that you seem to think it will be easy. Flacco averages 150 yards a game in the postseason with 4 touchdowns and 7 picks. Dalton had 6 interceptions during the entire regular season, and our defense forced him to throw three in one game. I think this game could go either way, and respect the Ravens record at home this season, but don’t think it will be an easy win for either side.

Then Bengals didn’t have Rice, and fell behind early, forcing them to have to air it out. I don’t see that happening again this Sunday. Make no mistake, we are NOT the Bengals, and this game will NOT be played at Reliant Stadium.

Bengals were down 7 at the half due to an amazing defensive pick 6 by JJ Watt. They weren’t forced to air it out, they simply couldn’t run on our defense.

Flacco had a great game against our D the first time around
I think our D is better now then it was then. Ravens have absolutely earned the right to be the favorites, but I doubt we make this easy for them.
Watch me all in flames, on a butterfly I ride
The game against us was one of the Ravens best offensively speaking (opinion). I just don’t think it will go so well this time.

Watch me all in flames, on a butterfly I ride
No doubt they’ll be putting pressure on our offense, but agreed. Our defense will bring their “A” game. I think another possible factor in this game will be injuries. These are 2 hard hitting teams and I’m not sure both teams will make it through without someone going down.

I agree. I was not loving it when Leinhart stepped in. The guy has just never really done anything since coming into the NFL. He either gets injured when an opportunity presents itself (ex: Cardinals, Texans) or just doesn’t deliver.
