Jared Gaither NOT going to the Raiders

It appears Jared Gaither is NOT going to the Raiders. After he reportedly failed a physical and the Raiders signed some bloke by the name of Kalif Barnes.

Star-divide

It occurs to me that we could still use some help on the offensive line. How about bringing him back to Baltimore. I wouldn't read too much into a failed physical if only because coming off an injury I reckon he'd be out of shape. Bringing him back to Baltimore probably wouldn't cost the Ravens too much. Our line was amazing two years ago with him at the LT spot, if he could recapture any part of that he'd be great for us, even in a back up role he would be great depth for us.

Yes condition will be a concern initially, but I think we should sign him to an inexpensive deal, and I figure by week 3 he'll be worth starting/rotating in the line up.

The opinions posted here are those of the administrator of this blog and his loyal readers. They are in no way official comments from the team, and should not be misconstued as such, even though he thinks he could do just as well or even a better job!

I like Gaither. He always struck me as the type to give 110% on Sundays, but not so much during the week. The injury (I assume it’s an injury) is unfortunate, and I hope he can bounce back.

Kind of like an Allen Iverson except he only had one good season?

No thanks… plenty of room on the roster of some second-tier team

Gaither had two good season one in 2009 and 2008

Jared Gaither is long gone

no offer to stay in Baltimore… failed physical in Oakland…

maybe you two can be friends on FB??

Dude you honestly have no idea how dominant Gaither was

Or how much he did for this team. He is the 3rd ranked pass blocker in the past 3 years.
http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2011/06/15/three-year-pass-blocking-efficiency-offensive-linemen/
He played with so much heart, and he may not be physically right for the rest of his life now because of what he sacrificed for the Ravens. It seems like his back problems are now chronic, and the guy who was on his way to be one of the best LTs in the game, the guy who basically left no dropoff from JONATHAN OGDEN, has now had his career short. Meanwhile he spent a long year away from the spotlight trying to rehab, while listening to people talk about how he faked his injury.

Honestly I don’t think this is any occasion for snark.

Good stats. I think everyone here knows how damn good Gaither was for us in those two short years. We all wish he never got hurt, because he had a chance to be a top 5 LT in this league, he was perfect for the job.

Also good to see that Birk was the 5th ranked Center when I have seen many people here say he is getting destroyed game after game. Obviously he isn’t.

That’ll happen when you have Chris Chester lining up next to you. I really feel for whoever is taking snaps in Washington this year.

I know how dominant he was...

what does that have to do with Ravens 2011?

by Evan Skev on Aug 1, 2011 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Of course, it’s a different story now that he failed his physical but before all of this, why wouldn’t you want Gaither? He was A LOT better at LT than Oher.

LOL

this is pretty funny. I posted a fan shot saying he was going to the Raiders, didn’t even think he would fail the physical. Better off having Jah Reid

How bad is his back?

This guy was on his way to be a special player..Is his injury like marvel smith??

Its really unclear if it was his back at all because articles talking about his failed physical

seem to be just going off speculation because it would seem like that would be the most likely case why he failed

He has no work ethic...

failed physical… no mention of back injury

Damn shame!

Young guy like that. How did he get injured?

Keep in mind

that the Raiders have some new coaching up there and may be taking things a little more seriously now. The last thing I read on Gaither is that the Raiders were going to work him over hard to see if he could do everything he needed.

Jut because he “failed” a physical doesn’t mean he is done in football by any means. I know that a lot of teams will do that to certain players that they want to back out of a deal (didn’t we just fail a few players all of a sudden?) on and its fairly easy to do since your own doctors can pass or fail him.

They might have not felt too comfortable giving him the money he wanted over a few years if they felt he couldn’t start all 16 games for 3-4 years. We very well might try and bring him back for the vet minimum and see how he does over here. I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to that, even if he was just a backup and got himself completely healthy and in shape for next season.

Ravens didn't offer him a dollar to stay here...

they let him leave so why would they bring him back? nonsense

by Evan Skev on Aug 1, 2011 1:20 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t know if we offered him a minimum deal or not. We may not have had him as any priority, but now that it looks like teams will shy away from him, maybe we’ll toss him a $500k 1 year deal and check him out ourselves. The guy was a serious beast when he was on the field and if he can see it again this year, it fits perfectly with our new vaunted running attack.

He still needs to pass a physical

The same reason they brought Ray Lewis back

They let him test the waters as well. Why didn’t we cut him, no one else offered him a contract.

What is going on with Gaither now

I heard a report that he’s with the Raiders. Is that just an old report that wasn’t updated or did they actually get him in?
