In a story posted at BaltimoreRavens.com, the Baltimore Ravens Public Relation team was honored with the Rozelle Award from the Pro Football Writers of American. The Rozelle Award recognizes excellence in the staff's dealing and relationships with the media. In other words, receiving this honors means the Ravens PR Department is the most media-friendly in the entire NFL. Surprisingly, the Ravens staff has never won the award prior to now, despite being among the four finalists in eight of the past ten years.
Led by Kevin Byrne, Public and Community Relations Senior Vice President, who has been in the NFL for 32 years, his team includes Chad Steele (Media Relations Director), Melanie LeGrande (Community Relations Director), Patrick Gleason (Public/Media Relations Manager), as well as others whose names are listed in the accompanying story on the team's website. Also part of that team is Mike Duffy (Website Writer/Director), whose articles are frequently linked to here on Baltimore Beatdown and might have what we rate as one of the best jobs in sports for any aspiring sports writer.
As a part of the group of media that has been lucky enough to receive credentials from the team to attend Training camp, OTA's and the NFL Draft at the Ravens Training Complex, I can attest from a firsthand account on how well the media is treated and what a great job they do to keep us informed and in the loop for any news coming out of "The Castle" at One Winning Drive. Congratulations to everyone in the PR Department for an honor well earned and long overdue!
