More Photos From Ravens' 'Players-Only' Workout
Led by veteran Derrick Mason, the Baltimore Ravens players held a private workout, closed to the public, but open to the media this morning. They will reconvene again on Wednesday and Thursday without the public nor media in attendance. They were ran through conditioning drills by Athletic Performance, who work with a variety of athletes in and around the Washington, DC area.
QB Joe Flacco, as well as the other two quarterbacks at the workout, veteran Hunter Cantwell and rookie Tyrod Taylor, took turns throwing passes to the receivers.
Rookie QB Tyrod Taylor:
Rookie WR Torrey Smith (Maryland):
Rookie WR Tandon Doss (Indiana):

Really really glad to see Pitta was out there. I was stoked when we drafted him last year. All he did in college was catch the ball. Here’s hoping we use him this year…
Pitta has the potential. Unfortunately he’s a good player, that’s stuck behind a good player, who’s stuck behind an even better play.

Yea, I like having this problem.
"No disrespect to Patrick Peterson and Prince Amukamara, but I just think I have better cover skills. They get tested a lot, and that’s for a reason. The other team sees something in their game that they want to attack, and me playing in the same league as Prince, we played the same teams and they didn’t attack me the same. So why does that happen?" - CB Jimmy Smith
would definitely like to see more of dickson.very athletic TE

If Josh Wilson made it, along with almost every receiver on the roster, I’m really having a hard time seeing why Jimmy wasn’t there. Sure injuries are a concern, but for someone trying to adapt to the speed of the NFL, IMO he should’ve been there. Not surprised to see a majority of defense chose to sit out. I’m more worried with some of those older guys getting hurt, than I am with with the young blood. But all in all any practice during the lockout is step in the right direction.

I dont think Jimmy Smith had to be there it wasnt a mandatory work out besides he could had been busy with other important matters
Cut J. Smith some slack
If there are more player only workouts, I’d expect him to attend.

Bruce, do you expect more players to show up tomorrow and Thursday? I would think a few more guys are going to get up here like Zbi and others.

Torrey looks jacked! In that second picture, Foxworth looks like a high school player behind him. Smith could be a faster version of Boldin.
How good was Torrey’s stiff arm in college?
Torrey is not built ike a thin-long WR
but is ripped and will be tough to bring down in the open field along with his speed.

just saw a brief clip of the practice and I believe it was Justin Harper who caught the ball one handed and made it look so simple.I just can’t understand how he has those huge hands and struggles catching the ball. I had such big hopes for him and it’s too bad that he probably will get cut.
Heres a couple links of the practice.

Here’s a good article to from the workouts.
A couple of quotes from the article:
Even though the workout wasn’t full-speed, Smith’s athleticism was on display.
So was Flacco’s arm strength.
“The guy has a cannon,” Smith said. “It was weird knowing the ball was going to be there every time, but it’s a great feeling.”

When Harper made that one handed catch
I said to someone near me that he makes the one-handed ones but not the two-handed variety.

Awsome videos.

Sometimes guys just don’t get it at first. The coaches must see something in him to keep him around this long. He definitely gets great seperation for his height.
Miles Austin had a similar catching problem at first. We all know how he turned out.

Harper is an issue with me
He has the size and has bulked up and can make the acrobatic catches but if he could make the routine ones, he’d be really good.

It almost seems like a confidence problem
or he can’t perform in games. The guy in practice and workouts, tears it up. But in game situations, he can’t catch a cold. Maybe his concentration is off on the simple stuff and he gets into his own head. Whatever it is, I wish he would get rid of it so he can see the field a little more.

Agreed. He definitely has all the tools to be a successful WR, but for some reason just can’t put it all together. I don’t see him being able to make the roster unless he really really impresses in camp and his best hope as far as here is to make the practice squad.
Harper seems like a nice guy and I’ve heard the coaches like him, but in all honesty, he’s been given a lot of opportunities to produce and just hasn’t shown anything. It may be time to move on from him.
I don’t know that he will get the chance to show anything . I think as of right now we have Boldin, Mason, Torrey Smith, Doss, Reed, Hardy, and Marcus Smith who are ahead of him and we probably keep 5-6 WR’s. I really think his only chance is practice squad or an amazing training camp if or when we have one.
Perhaps
He just shies away from the contact that he really hasn’t had a chance to get as a pro.
