Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

"With the 225th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select...

...Anthony Allen, running back, Georgia Tech." Allen is a 6'1", 228 pound running back that would be an excellent complement to current starter, Ray Rice. With the possibility that both RB Willis McGahee and FB LeRon McClain leaving the team due to free agency, Allen provides insurance and the option for goal line carries as he is much bigger than Rice, whose elusiveness is best served in the open field.

Allen was named to the All-ACC first-team and finished second in the ACC, averaging just over 100 yards a game in 2010, including over 160 yards in each of the final two games. He finished the 2010 season with 1,316 yards on 240 carries with seven TD's. He added 88 more yards on 3 receptions and another score.

Allen transferred from Louisville for his final two years at Georgia Tech, finishing his college career with over 3,000 yards rushing.

Our new FB? Needs to add a few pounds, I think, but wow is he big…

by JoshuaStein on Apr 30, 2011 6:20 PM EDT reply actions

Big Boy

Could be the FB of the future or if nothing else the cheaper Willis.

Check here about the report on him, he did a lot of run blocking in GT so he should give us some flexibility at the RB/FB spot and he’s pretty quick too.
http://sidelinescouting.com/rankings/rb/anthony-allen.shtml

Plus he’s rocking the dreds too ;)

A Ravens fan on the wrong side of the country!!

by Christopher Atwood on Apr 30, 2011 6:22 PM EDT reply actions

Guy needs to add at least 10 pounds of muscle to be a goal line back.

by erniesto on Apr 30, 2011 6:24 PM EDT reply actions

We’ll see how he does against NFL sized players. College LBs are not NFL LBs

by erniesto on Apr 30, 2011 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

People just fall off of him

This guy looks like a jamal lewis with dreads

Great highlight tape. The man is def. a power back. He doesn’t have the best moves in the open field, but he doesn’t go down off the first hit ethier. Reminds me of a poor man Marshawn Lynch, and not just because of the dreds, lol.

FEAR THE NEVERMORE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here’s an analysis from sportingnews.com about Allen:

“Looks like the Ravens are preparing for the loss of Le’Ron McClain by getting this year’s most versatile fullback.”

Could be a guy worth keeping around….

by JoshuaStein on Apr 30, 2011 6:59 PM EDT reply actions

I'm really excited about this guy

He’s my David Reed of this years draft. I feel like he will make more of an impact than people think. He’s a hardnose guy who can play FB and RB, and he has suprising speed for his size. I like how he has that ability to just make people miss. Great pick Ozzie, I give this year an A+

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

Practice squad player probably

Which is okay, especially if the lockout goes until August. Definitely worth keeping.

3 ACC players in one draft? I love it.

I just wish one of them was out of the U

This was the best draft class we produced in a long time, I just wish the Ravens could’ve dipped into that a little

Yea, I would have loved Allen Bailey or Orlando Franklin.

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 30, 2011 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Allen Bailey was predicted to be a top 15 pick about 3 months ago

Don’t understand exactly why he fell. He’s a tweener of a DT and DE and would’ve been a perfect pick for the Ravens IMO. Perfect for our hybrid defense. And Orllando Franklin blew IMO. He was always getting beat when a DE had a little bit of speed. Way to much of a liability in the Pass-block

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions

True, but when he is in he makes a significant difference. He just stuffs the run AND has a good ability to get to the QB

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Bailey is a beast and could have played DE or OLB for us.

Real G's move in silence like lasagna

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 30, 2011 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly, AND he can move over to DT in some packages. Once again the Chiefs take a guy I was really high on. Bailey is great, but could beef up by about 10 pounds.

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Correction:

Bailey COULD be great.

He’s gotta earn it. Obviously practically every team has some doubt that he will.

by ursula on Apr 30, 2011 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Leo is going to be a superstar BTW. He has all the tools to be a productive player, and Washington has a great player in Hankerson. It’s sad he has no-one to throw to him though….

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, unfortunately he went to the Redskins. So his career is likely over.

Real G's move in silence like lasagna

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 30, 2011 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Unfortunately. Imagine if he went to the Colts. If Manning could make Stokely look good, imagine what he could do with Leonard.

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea, I hate seeing WR who have so much talent go to teams with shitty QB’s. DHB would tear it up with Brady, Rivers, Rodger, Manning or Joe.

Real G's move in silence like lasagna

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 30, 2011 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s probably true actually. And if Donovan McNabb wasnt on his way out, I would like this, but they have fucking John Beck as their starting QB next year. Sorry Leo…

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m not crazy about DHB. He’s not a good route runner and has bad hands. He’s a track star.

I think he would have struggled anywhere he went.

by BAL_Hawk on May 2, 2011 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Rice, Steele/Parmele, and Allen in the backfield? Not bad, I say…

by JoshuaStein on Apr 30, 2011 7:40 PM EDT reply actions

Screw Steele or Parmele. RIce McGahee and Allen is pretty scary

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions

McGahee is gone. Steele was great last year in camp. The coaches LOVE Parmele and so do I. Allen is gonna need work, but might make PS.

Real G's move in silence like lasagna

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 30, 2011 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

There’s no way we get rid of McGahee and McClain. Not happening. And since McClain is on his way out, that means we are keeping McGahee

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Team official Mike Preston said McGahee is getting cut whenever football officially begins…

by JoshuaStein on Apr 30, 2011 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions

So we ARE cutting both of them? Dumb move IMO

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

McGahee would be the most overpaid running back in the NFL. Let’s stop homering the guy and realize his best years are long behind him.

There are some great RB’s available in FA.

by erniesto on Apr 30, 2011 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Are you kidding me? He contributes like 10+ TDs a year. He is great for us in goal-line situations

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on Apr 30, 2011 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

But we can get someone else to do those goal line situations. Willis is set to be a top 5 paid RB next season, it does not make any sense at all to pay someone top 5 money for getting about 100 carries next year, probably less.

Real G's move in silence like lasagna

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 30, 2011 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Look. If you’re going to write for the fan blog I suggest you learn your team’s players a little better. McGahee scored 12 touchdowns in only one season with Baltimore. Even when Rice was out of the rotation he didn’t break 10. He scored 5 last year while averaging a not so great 3.8. I don’t want the Ravens to pay an aging running back 1 million per touchdown and every 75 yards he runs.

by erniesto on May 1, 2011 12:41 AM EDT up reply actions

And he always came up with big plays when it mattered most

And I don’t understand why some of you guys decide to critique my knowledge on situations. If you think you can do a better job more power to you. But Bruce didnt make me a Editor just because he felt like it. So its not up to you to criticize my knowledge. Jeez that gets annoying after a while

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on May 1, 2011 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions

And his drop-off in production came from the increase in Rice’s carries. Less carries= Less opportunities to score

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on May 1, 2011 12:59 AM EDT up reply actions

It should = less money as well, but Willis won’t take it. You don’t pay starter money to a guy who gets only 100 carries. I love Willis and love him here, but you don’t pay a backup starter money.

by AV23 on May 1, 2011 1:21 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed but maybe we can get him to accept a pay cut

Editor at Baltimore Beatdown - SB Nation Baltimore Ravens Blog

by Zachary Beard on May 1, 2011 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions

Doubtful with Drew Rosenhaus advising him…

by JoshuaStein on May 1, 2011 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah he already came out and said he’s not accepting less money which is why the Ravens said he will more than likely be cut.

by AV23 on May 1, 2011 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions

while Willis doesnt deserve 6mil to play backup

i think most overpaid goes to Reggie Bush, hes schedules to make 11.8mil next season as pretty much a glorified 3rd down back. not trying to call you out or anything like that. just wondering if im the only one who finds that unreal!

Scott Hines

Lets just say both RB’s contracts for next year are insane.

Real G's move in silence like lasagna

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 30, 2011 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I think its the other way around. Willis leaves and McClain stays.

Real G's move in silence like lasagna

by Mr MaLoR on Apr 30, 2011 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

McClain would have to be re-signed once free agency begins. He’s a guy that will command A LOT of money. I doubt very much he comes back.

by JoshuaStein on Apr 30, 2011 8:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m sure money is important to Leron, but I think he’s more interested in more carries. If Mcgahee does end up getting the boot, why not give those extra carries to McClain? Maybe that could convince him to stay, with us only offering him a reasonable contract.

"Really, all Americans want is cold beer, warm p***y, and someplace to take a s**t with a door on it."

by StuckInUtah on Apr 30, 2011 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions

They didn’t draft a FB. That pretty much means McClain has to stay.

by BAL_Hawk on Apr 30, 2011 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions

They resigned Jason McKie though.

Real G's move in silence like lasagna

by Mr MaLoR on May 1, 2011 12:54 AM EDT up reply actions

He may turn out to be a gem, but I don’t think they can count on him as a starter at this point.

by BAL_Hawk on May 1, 2011 8:01 AM EDT up reply actions

McClain is a free agent. He wouldn’t be someone we cut…

by JoshuaStein on Apr 30, 2011 8:00 PM EDT reply actions

Nice pick to end the draft

Expect this man to come in to training camp and compete for some carries. More then likely, Wills will be moving on. I hope we can re-sign the McClain train. I expect to be our change of pace running back. Hopeully, he can make the 53 man roster. If not, he is a solid pratice squad guy.

FEAR THE NEVERMORE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Benji5203 on Apr 30, 2011 10:58 PM EDT reply actions

Love this pick. He should definitely be our power back if McClain ends up leaving too. He has great size and actually really deceptive speed. He’s not very elusive, but when you run through people you don’t really need to be. Definitely should be a great compliment to Rice. I personally think our 3 RB’s should be Rice, him and Steele if McClain leaves. Parmele has been great on special teams, but I’m not impressed with him as an RB. I"m sure most would prefer him over Steele, but Steele adds the blazing speed none of our RB’s have while Parmele doesn’t offer anything different IMO. Rice as the starter,Allen with the power and Steele with the blazing speed. Sounds like a great combination to me.

by AV23 on May 1, 2011 12:33 AM EDT reply actions

hopefully he can make the team

would love to see that hair in a ravens uni on sunday
