Torrey Smith Defends Jimmy Smith
It has already apparent that WR Torrey Smith is a very high character guy, this was especially made clear this morning when Torrey interjected his opinion on teammate Jimmy Smith when he was Jimmy was questioned on his character and history of off the field problems. After Jimmy answered this question, a reporter began asking Torrey a question about a different topic, but the wideout politely stopped him. He had something he wanted to say:
"Going off what he said, I’ve had an opportunity to know Jimmy myself," Torrey said. "He’s a great guy. The way the media tries to portray him, I feel like that’s not him. He’s a great guy, he’s down to earth. Like he said, his things are in the past so I feel like people should focus more so on what he’s going to do from this day forward."
Torrey and Jimmy got to know each other when they came to Baltimore at the same time for visits to the Ravens’ Owings Mills, Maryland facility. They roomed with each other and spoke for a few hours about football and other topics.
"We’ll definitely have some fun," Torrey said with a smile. "I feel like they brought us in both to help make an impact and we’re going to push each other to help us be the best players we can be."
I for one, am excited to have such high talented and high character guys wearing purple and black.

Harbaugh just stopped by the Media Room
for an informal 20 minutes or so, answering questions, some “off-the-record.” Very very interesting. On the record comments included the answer that Jimmy Smith was here far enough in advance to get his playbook, but not Torrey.
He loved his brother’s draft and said they were trying to work out a trade and laughed about what it would be like if they had a trade mixup with SF.
He inferred as to what the team was still looking for and when he was asked if the team was looking at any QB’s, he said “yes, two of them.” After being told Ricky Stanzi (Iowa) was selected by the Chiefs, he said, “well, one QB now.”

Could be McElroy
Harbs said their picks all had high IQs and Mcelroy might have had the best Wonderlic scores of the QBs.

Can’t wait for these 5th round picks. These were the two picks I was most excited for outside of the 1st and 2nd because we get to pick back to back.

I really am hoping for Sturdivant or Carter to be there. I’m not sure why Sturdivant is dropping so far. He had the injury, but is a tackling machine.
I like Greg Jones more from MSU. Suprised we haven’t gone DE or OLB so far. Ozzie must know something about Kindle that we don’t, so could be a good thing.

We had back-to-back 5th rounders
last year and got Arthur Jones and David Reed.

Ray Edwards, DE (former Viking)
6’5", 268, age 26
8 sacks last year, 8.5 in 2009
Sounds real good like a fit here.

I think the coaches feel deep down Kindle will be cleared. And that will be like having another rookie in the fold, who happens to fill a huge need.
Not too sure about that
Hope you are right but the team is moving ahead in the only way they can, which is assuming he will NOT be here. We have nothing to lose, he is not costing us much now that he only signed a one-year deal and we can tender him cheaply when we’re ready and satisfied he will return.

Moving on? We haven’t drafted a pass rusher yet. And yes, they may be targeting someone whenever free agency begins, but nothing is guaranteed on that front. It just takes one doctor to clear Kindle. They’ll find one.
Exactly. Like I said below, this DE/OLB class was freakishly deep, and we haven’t gone there yet.

A Ravens official
off the record said the ILB draft class was pretty weak. We may look at FA there. We’re looking at a few other pass rushers (DE/OLB), O-linemen, RB/FB and a QB. With four picks left, I say we pick up one of each (QB, RB, OL, DE).

Ok. Did they tell you anything about DE/OLB and why they haven’t chosen one yet? There has to be a reason, and I think Ozzie has known this for a while.

Well it doesn’t look like it. What have we done so far that shows we are improving the pass rush by thinking Kindle WON’T be there? In arguably the greatest DL/DE/OLB draft class of the last 10 years, Ozzie hasn’t even sniffed in that area. That should be telling us something Bruce.

That would be true
IF free agency had come and gone. It still remains to be explored so let’s wait until the draft AND free agency is over before we assume that.

I do to. The pass rush was maybe our weakest aspect of our team last season, and to have Ozzie not address it so far after 4 rounds tells me that he knows something we don’t and has a move or 2 up his sleeve. One of those is that Kindle is going to be ready.

Agreed especially with a guy like Houston falling who I was begging for us to trade up for in the 3rd. We have passed up quite a few legitimate pass rushers and I think that shows some confidence. I still hope we get Carter with one of our 5ths just in case though.
I think there is a huge difference between character issues and making mistakes. I consider guys who are divas, me first, and so on as the ones with character issues. The ones who will bitch and moan and tear your team apart int he locker room with negativity. Smith made a few poor decisions as a freshman in college. Big woop. At least he wasn’t getting DUI’s and snorting cocaine.

J Smith handled hiself real well in Presser
Took questions and did what he could to let us know he is matured and ready to prove it on and off the field.

We pick Chykie Brown. He has upside, but I really think we have too many CB’s and I don’t think he makes the team unless we now don’t plan on bringing back Carr or Wilson.
CB Chykie Brown is the pick. Surprised by this judging how DeCosta said he doesn’t like taking CB after the 3rd round. But should bring a good special teams presence.

This kid could be a steal though. He’s a lock down corner but was injured in his senior year. He would have started for Texas.
Eh, Texas players always seem
to find trouble in their NFL careers. Too many for them to be on my draft boards fo rthe most part.
