Youth/Speed on The Ravens Offense Will Not Be The Savior !!!!

The Ravens offense performance last year wasn't up to expectation and some believe that the lack of speed on the field was the reason for its down fall. The Ravens offense had new faces/players playing out of their original position such as David Reed, Ed Dickson, Anquan Boldin, Marshall Yanda, Michael Oher, Donte Stallworth, Dennis Pitta, and T.J Housmanzadeh.

The Ravens offense would seem to be unstoppable with so much talent but they were stoppable. The Ravens offense showed flashes of explosiveness but why wasn't it explosive all the time? Was it because Derrick Mason is 37? Was it because Cam Cameron didn’t know what he was doing? Was it because T.J Housmanzadeh is 33? Was it because Boldin is 30? Was it because our starter wipeouts were slow?  Was it because Michael Oher isn't a fit for the blind side? And was it because Donte Stall worth wasn’t used much? The answer is not what I stated above but the real answer is the lack of chemistry.

The Ravens indeed lost a great deal of chemistry by trading Mark Clayton and losing Jared Gaither to Injuries. Cam Cameron play calling/Slow wipeouts on field gets most of the blame for the offense down fall but how can you expect anything to work if their isn't consistent chemistry. Joe Flacco/Cam Cameron was faced with an offense with no connection of consistent chemistry and this is why you had games where play calling didn’t turn out right, Joe Flacco not seeing Anquan Boldin wide open, offensive linemen looking lost, and etc.

The Ravens do need to draft a young/fast wideout but that is not their revolution for their offense but instead more chemistry is. If the Ravens can go 12-4 with an offense with lack of chemistry then imagine how it would be once chemistry is truly at the level it supposes to be. The Ravens offense  also would benefit from a  player that provide energy like Anquan Boldin with his speeches, a play maker like Desean Jackson, entertainer/ dancer like a Kelly Washington, and more leadership. The Ravens offense yet again will be face with some changes and hopefully the changes doesn't effect the chemistry like last year offense.

I agree. Restock the defense and let Joe develop chemistry with Q, David Reed, Dickson and Pitta. We do need a fast WR, but we don’t have to reach for one.

Trench warfare wins or loses games.

We lost the games we lost because of the line play. Not protecting Joe or opening holes for Rice on offense and not rushing the passer on defense. That’s it, not WR or CB.

I like Muhamed Wilkerson. Seems like just what the Ravens need in the “trenches” per se.

I thought Boldin dropping that TD pass and Housh dropping the first down pass were big reasons we lost as well. Joe had great protection on those plays.

Big time players make big time plays. They just didnt pan out. Which is why I really like Leo. He is clutch in crunch time.

I would disagree about us not needing speed. yes we had new players, but when has our passing game ever been dynamic including the years before? Joe has a cannon on him and throws a great deep ball and we don’t have anybody who can consistently win over the top. Our offense at times completely shuts down and we don’t have one of those dynamic play makers to spark it.Not to mention Mason could retire any minute and Boldin will be 30 and has had injuries in the past. Everyone wants to get on Joe about not progressing, but doesn’t want to provide him with the tools he needs to excel. All the great passing teams have someone who can stretch the field for them and as of right now we do not have that player.

All I heard the past two off seasons was how much chemistry our team had. Look how far that got us. Talent is what this team needs. Speed is a BIG component of talent for WRs. What would Desean Jackson, Percy Harvin, Roddy White, etc be without his speed? Coaches know they need talent first. After you have the talent, then you can build great chemistry. You think Bill Belicheck drastically changed how he coached when he got to NE from Cleveland. He had all the tools to be great, but he didn’t have the talent necessary.

Watch the draft and listen to how many times the talking heads mention speed. What do you think seperates college WRs from NFL WRs, speed. What do rookies have the hardest time adjusting to at the NFL level, speed.

Yes, we can win without speed at the WR position. Wouldn’t it be easiar to win if we did have some gamebreakers though?
