Seven From Sunday

A look at seven statistical highlights from games played at 1:00 p.m. ET and 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, December 4, the 13th week of the 2011 season.

  • The GREEN BAY PACKERS improved to 12-0 with a 38-35 win at the New York Giants. The Packers, who are the second defending Super Bowl champion (1998 Denver) to start the following season 12-0, have won 18 consecutive games, including the playoffs. That is tied for the second-longest winning streak in NFL history, trailing the 2003-04 New England Patriots (21 games).

The Packers have clinched a playoff spot and can claim the NFC North division title if Detroit loses tonight.

  • New England quarterback TOM BRADY threw two touchdown passes to tight end ROB GRONKOWSKI in the Patriots’ 31-24 win over Indianapolis.

Gronkowski, who also scored his first career rushing touchdown, has 13 receiving touchdowns, tied with ANTONIO GATES (2004) and VERNON DAVIS (2009) for the most TD receptions by a tight end in a single season in NFL history.

Brady has 291 career touchdown passes and tied Pro Football Hall of Famer WARREN MOON for the sixth-most TD passes in NFL history. Brady also passed Pro Football Hall of Famer JOHNNY UNITAS (290) today.

Brady has 30 touchdowns passes this season and is the sixth quarterback in NFL history to pass for at least 30 TDs in at least three different seasons. He joins BRETT FAVRE (nine), PEYTON MANNING (six), Pro Football Hall of Famer DAN MARINO (four), DREW BREES (three) and KURT WARNER (three).

My seven from Sunday

1. We have the best set of Guards in the NFL, hands down. On both of Rice’s big runs yesterday, Rice is running through a lane that has Grubbs on one side, and Yanda on the other. Man those guys are good.

2. Feed the beast. Good things happen when Rice gets the ball. This is 3 straight games where Cam has finally gotten it right. I don’t care if he gets 20 yards on 20 carries, good things come when he sees the ball. Rice is a top 5 RB in the league.

3. What a pickup Leach has been. I feel bad for the Cleveland LB’s, they just couldn’t get away from 44 Bulldog.

4. Not a pretty, but good enough game from Joe. If not for a bunch of drops (as usual) we are looking at a 2 TD game possibly from him and no one is complaining. Although it was only 10 completions, they were 10 beautiful completions against the #1 ranked pass defense in the league.

5. Our pass rush is simply incredible. Even when they don’t get sacks, guys like Jones and Kruger are right in the face of the QB. Poor Colt McCoy.

6. Ozzie strikes again. I expected these types of things from Jimmy and Torrey, but McPhee??? Holy shit is that guy good, and only going to get better. A rookie DE is our 2nd leading sack machine. He is relentless.

7. We got our toughest 3 game stretch out of the way now (without Ray Lewis) and now we get the famous Colts. Not going to write them off or anything, but those guys suck….

Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.

Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang
