We didn’t really need him this week, but that kind of sucks for the Cincy game. Atleast Evans is somewhat healthy.

does this open up the signing Justin Harper, James Hardy, Derrick Mason, Demetrius Williams and oprah winfrey type sweep stake to give the ravens more depth at the wideout postion.
All joke a side but i hope Tandon Doss can get some playing time also David Reed. I want to see a big game from either of those guys also Laquan Williams as well
This isn’t good. Boldin has had trouble at times getting separation when he was healthy and I can’t imagine he will be 100% come playoff time and Q can’t afford to lose anymore speed.
On Ed Reed:
"I’ve told him to his face many times, ‘You’re the greatest safety ever to play the game,’"
"We all learn from each other, but we all learn most from him."

not saying that Boldin doesnt have issues getting separation but i always thought the issue was
Joe Flacco chemistry with Boldin not being there like it should. Boldin is said to be a wideout that has solid hands, can catch balls in traffic, and when he seems like he’s not open he still can make plays but Flacco doesn’t take advantage of the abilites boldin has often.
Boldin dropping passes hasn;t help either but I think he will be fine after he comes back in two weeks.
The problem with that is you basically have to throw a perfect ball to get it in there and that’s not always easy. Not saying he never gets open, but he’s definitely struggled against better CB’s.

I disagree with both of you
I think it’s more an issue of Cam not using Boldin to his strengths. He needs to be running over the middle, working the slot, and getting the ball in space where he can run over a guy to get some YAC. He doesn’t have the route running ability that Mason had, nor the speed that Torrey has, but he’s constantly asked to run routes like those guys. His best games as a Raven have been when he’s been able to work the middle, yet it’s few and far between that he’s used like that.
Boldin certainly seemed to get separation
when Kurt Warner was throwing to him 100 times a season in Arizona!

Different system
That’s why I was talking about his time here. Also, Fitz on the other side certainly helps. It’s just insane to me that we basically tell every defense they only need to cover half the field. Makes a CBs job a lot easier if he knows he won’t ever have to cover inside the numbers.
That offense under Warner with Boldin and Fitz
was not even close to what the Ravens offense is, completely different styles.
I’ve heard it described as some sort of spread offense that differed in some respects from a typical (as it were) West Coast offense. I’m not sure what those differences would be, or even how reliable that information is. The gist of it is that they weren’t running a Norv Turner-style Air Coryell like we currently do.
Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.

I’m talking specifically about the Super Bowl year. I have even less of a clue what they’re currently running in Arizona, but it’s likely some form of West Coast offense.

The Cards barely had a running game that year
Instead they used short, high percentage passes to Boldin to make up for inability to successfully run the ball.
yes thats possible that Cam isnt using right but boldin has been used more in the slot which we all know he is best at .
I think Cam does used Boldin to work the middle of the field at times but sometimes a wideout is only as good as the quarterback. I’m not saying Joe Flacco isnt a good quarterback but if you got a inconsistent quarterback most likely you going to have inconsistent production from wideouts or things not working out like it should on offense
Tell me this
when was the last time you saw the Ravens running slants/drags/crossing routes with built in picks on a routine basis? We sprinkle 1 or 2 in per game, but other than that, it’s the same shitty routes with the defense able to cover it easily, because they know exactly what’s coming.

I would say the steelers, titans, seahawks, and the bengels game is when i saw a slant or drag route not so sure about a crossing route
We use the drag or crossing routes a lot with the TEs, or at least we used to. I seem to remember those plays absolutely destroying one team in particular, geez what were they called….ummmm….the Steelers, yea that’s it! I don’t know why Cam abondons something like that but Cam is Cam.

As I said
1 or 2 per game, that’s pathetic. This offense is bland and predictable, and very easy to defend.
I'm not worried about it
A lot of 2 TE sets with Rice being a dual threat will be enough to let Torrey and Lee have room to work. Hopefully we get to see a little of Doss and Reed, too. 1st round bye and that means an extra week of rest for Boldin and he’ll be ready when the Steelers come in to M&T for the divisional round.
Actually sort of excited for this
One because it will allow Boldin to be 100% come playoff time. And two, time for the young guys to show us why they are here. Evans should see a bunch of looks now, and we already know about The Terp. Torrey is the next Roddy White, time for him to shine and win us a game on his own……..like he has done about 5 times this year.
Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.
Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang
Evans and Torrey.....lots of speed
I think that we will be better off in some situations with Evans on the field than Boldin. He’s dropped a lot of balls this anyway.
best tackling team in the NFL, most physical and just dominates people. When we walk out of the tunnel and out of that locker room, we expect to shut people out and play great defense - Ravens DC Chuck Pagano
Well, this sucks, but I don’t think it’ll be too big a factor this weekend, maybe in the CIN game. I like Boldin a lot. I’ve just always liked the way he plays the game, tough, fights for inches, and he’ll put a lick on guys. Get better soon 81.
Having said that, I think Torrey and the TEs with Rice can absolutely carry us for the last two weeks. Torrey has grown a looooot in a short time. He’s running some pretty good routes and making clutch catches, not just bombs, but sideline 1st down Mason-esque stuff. So, next man up, stick it to the Browns.

Haha.
You know what I mean though. Even in the debacle that was the SD game, Torrey made Joe look good on a couple of those sideline catches. He came back to the ball and laid out to grap some of them. I know you’re joking of course, but I really think Torrey is on his way to being a complete reciever. Eventually he’ll be able to do it all, and I can’t wait for that day.

He is too busy doing some stupid circle jerk show with Jamie Dukes and Warren Sapp on NFL Network now.

oh yeah i saw that lol well atleast he still had Flacco back when they were talking about afc north teams
Yea, he earned a bit of my love back with his support for Joe.

Speed always matters, but it really comes into play for the system we run. I can’t wait to see Torrey and Lee get lots of playing time together.
Also, I’m curious if Torrey or Lee will be our #1. We’ll finally be able to throw deep off play-action in 1 WR sets.

Very bad news
Boldin has been crucial the last few seasons, even if he is back for the playoffs, how effective will he be?
All the more reason to get that 1st round bye!
So....wasn't this story about someone not named Joe?
Oh yeah, Boldin. I’m hoping Doss gets a shot on the active roster. I think we’ll see a heavy dose of Rice and the TE combo, but it would be nice to get Doss or Reed in there for at least a few plays to see what they can bring to the offense.
I just don’t understand why Joe tore Boldin’s miniscus… what a rookie mistake!!!!

As for Boldin himself...Let's get some perspective here shall we?
Per Pro Football Focus:
He’s tied for 8th in the league with 8 drops
6 of his 8 drops have come over the middle, 2 each from 0-9 yds out, 10-19, and 20+
30th in their overall WR ratings
15th most targeted receiver (100)
56th in YAC per catch (4.4)
78th in catch percentage (55.9, Torrey Smith 80th with 55.8)
3 tds, none in the past 4 weeks
