Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Unbeknownst to most, Baltimore Ravens ILB Ray Lewis injured his toe in the Seattle Seahawks game and will not be playing in Sunday's key AFC North match-up vs the Cincinnati Bengals.

Word is that the injury is serious enough to have Ray miss perhaps additional games as well. A sign of the future a bit earlier than expected?

This video might show the play that did it:

When Marshawn Lynch “juked” Ray and JJ and it looks like Ray hurt his toe.

If that's the play that caused it

it looks more like a knee injury to me.

Next man up

As long as he’s AT the game, he’ll have an impact in terms of leadership.

Possible preview for next year, during the the off-season Ray was hinting that he is done after this season.

He said if we win the Super Bowl

that he’s retiring. He should have said “when!”

Ray, we still need the dance. Cut the toe off if need be. The dance, must go on.

you remember that play, from that game, on that day. sweet, right?... right...

I heard Joe has been practicing “The Dance” in front of a mirror at home…..we should be fine.

Heck, HoF safety Ronnie Lott

opted to cut off his pinky rather than have surgery and miss a bunch of games! Rub some dirt on it Ray!

Oh man, if Joe danced, we’d never lose another game. Our team would walk on air with all that swag.

Joe has about as much swag as Garth from Waynes World.

Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.

Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang

If Ray can't dance, the team needs to bring in Jenna Rose. She has plenty to go around

Here’s Ellerbe’s chance to really show what he’s got. He’ going to get his chance and now it’s time to show why so many of us were big on him after his rookie season.

He was injured the past few weeks and hasn't played but

has fully practiced all week. My guess it will be McClain and a combo of Ellerbe and Brendan Ayanbadejo inside.

aka 'Rexx'

by Bruce Raffel on Nov 18, 2011 10:06 AM EST up reply actions

Or they could

move JJ inside and put Bernard Pollard down in the box at OLB and play Zbi at SS.

I should be coaching, eh?

not sure about pollard @ OLB

But having BA’s underszed ass in there on running downs worries me.

yeah I would expect him to see the same role he does now because he’s just not an everydown MLB. I would expect Mcclain and ellerbe most the game with BA coming in for Ellerbe on passing downs.

Exactly

At least for now.

Josh Bynes WAS re-signed to practice squad. Bet we wished we had Jason Phillips right about now (he’s starting for Carolina).

aka 'Rexx'

by Bruce Raffel on Nov 18, 2011 12:41 PM EST up reply actions

Carolina’s LB’s are beat up though. They lost Beason for the season, Dan Connor was his backup and got hurt, and James Anderson, their OLB, has been hurt as well.

Trust me Bruce, Phillips isn’t starting by choice….

Great opportunity for someone else to step up

Ray Lewis can’t play forever. Another chance for McClain, Ellerbe to elevate themselves in the eyes of the coaching staff and the Wizard of Oz.

This does suck, but....

I think most of us would rather have Ray not playing instead of Ngata, Suggs or Reed not playing. Next man up.

At least it appears that

Bengals WR AJ Green will be missing the game as well, according to the National Football Post.

Harbaugh says he may still play.

The extent of the injury is not as bad as Aaron Wilson made it out to be.

Harbs

never discusses injuries and wouldn’t give out this info voluntarily. Ray will probably be listed on the Injury Report, due out later today, as Doubtful or even Questionable.

I do think he misses this week and the Thanksgiving game..

but this “up to 4 weeks” report most likely isn’t true.

According to NFL.com's

Jason LaCanfora, Ray will miss Bengals and 49ers game, but expects to return for the following game. He had made 57 straight starts, not to shabby for the old guy!

then doesn’t that mean by rule he has to be de-activated?
