Ravens' Ngata Fined $15K For Sanchez Hit
Baltimore Ravens DT Haloti Ngata was fined $15,000 by the NFL for what they called a flagrant hit with his helmet into New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez' back on the play that forced the fumble scooped up by LB Jarret Johnson and ran in for a TD in the Ravens 34-17 beatdown this past Sunday night.

What do they want the defense to do,
pull the flag from the QBs belt and throw it on the ground saying, “Gotcha!”???

This fine is BS....
It didn’t look like a dirty hit when it happened and it still doesn’t after seeing it now. Why does a defensive player have to beat his assigned o lineman, or in Ngata’s case, his double team, then break into the backfield to find the QB, then stop and think about where to position his head….all in about 3-4 seconds. The hit wasn’t malicious in any way and Rex even said after further review that it was a good play.
I hope Ngata pays in cash, wipes his ass with each $100 bill, shoves it all in an envelope and sends it to Goodell.

How to sack an NFL QB without being fined.
"What we've got here is failure to communicate."
I guess you could argue he didn’t HAVE to try and make a permanent imprint of his facemask in Mark’s lumbar. But who cares, all QB’s wear extra pads in that area anyways.
This is still crap though. I thought it was only against the rules if you lead with your head and hit your opponents head. In other words, if you hit the QB with your head anywhere below the neck and above the knees, you should be within the rules unless I misunderstand.
They say the empty can rattles the most...
I assume the rule they are applying is “A tackler using his helmet to butt, spear, or ram an opponent.” The rule does not apply specifically to tackling a QB, so it was not roughing the QB per se..
"What we've got here is failure to communicate."
The real reason is that the NFL
has their offices in New York City and want Mark Sanchez to be the future face of the NFL and they will do whatever they need to do to protect their “product” just like Brady, especially from the big, bad Ravens!

I thought it was borderline to be honest. I remember seeing the replay and going “ohhh wow, that was a close one!” but I definitely didn’t think it was worth that type of fine especially given Ngata’s relatively quiet history of those types of things. You have guys like Merriweather that continue to get called for absolute, definitive cheap shots to the head and get the same fine, yet Ngata makes a blindside sack and gets a pretty large fine.
I don’t really mind the fine as I’m sure Ngata doesn’t. What probably bugs the hell out of all the players just like us fans is just inconsistent calling and inconsistent fining. It seems to be random and that will always cause everyone to justifiably complain that their team isn’t getting the calls properly.

By the letter of the law, it was a penalty.
But as Bruce said, the only reason this play was reviewed by the NFL was because the hit was on Sanchez.
"What we've got here is failure to communicate."
yeah, if you go by the letter of the law, it was a penalty. But so is offsides on kickoff and that is never enforced unless its blatant. I won’t say there is some conspiracy for Sanchez here, I just think they don’t send a consistent message in who and how much they fine. The fact it was any QB probably upped the fine a bit, but if we thought it was borderline or a penalty, then it deserved a fine.

By the letter of the law Flacco should have had a good 10-20 of these calls the last four years that went ignored.

thats the truth. There have been some serious things like elbow drops just this year that have been looked over. If Vick thinks he gets hit late, he needs to watch a Ravens game to see Flacco take a hit after the WR has already caught the ball

Stupid Ngata doesn’t he know when you sack the QB your supposed to just gently lift him and set him on the ground, but not to hard because the QB might scrape his elbow. Then afterwards pick him back up and make sure he’s Ok. These rules are starting to ruin good defensive football. Even though this one wasn’t flagged they are putting too much control into the refs hands that can drastically alter games.
On Ed Reed:
"I’ve told him to his face many times, ‘You’re the greatest safety ever to play the game,’"
"We all learn from each other, but we all learn most from him."

the fine is laughable
Somebody should fine Goodell for his shitty Super Bowl half time entertainment (The Who get a pass though).
How could you possibly look better

I don’t know if that really makes any site look better. They are pretty slow in getting anything up online aside from silly human interest pieces… those seem to go up pretty quick and regularly over there. The Ravens site has to be the cushiest job in all of local journalism.

Give Bruce some credit guys!
I now find myself coming here first for Ravens news, before checking the Sun, Yahoo, etc. The main reason is that I know if something important or interesting happened, this site will be all over it. That is a credit not only to Bruce, but to everyone here who scours the net, tweets, or other sources for anything Ravens. I appreciate everyone’s efforts – but you have to admit Bruce puts in the most time and effort to make this The Place for the latest Ravens news.

Oh give me a break...
How much effort would it really take to put up 3 or more posts a day, scour the web for Ravens news, attend practices, conduct interviews, write for the LFL, monitor every comment on the Beatdown, analyze game stats, hold down a 9-5 job, and be a family man 7 days a week? Bruce has it easy….

Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong by any means. Bruce works his ass off for the site and I appreciate that. But BaltimoreRavens.com isn’t known for breaking news. Beat Twitter and I’ll be impressed in terms of speed :)
But this site is great. A lot of great people and I tend to come here after Twitter for any Ravens news, but here first for interesting analysis.

Raiders owner Al Davis dies at 82
I’ll wait for our intrepid editor to post the story. Here’s the link to the Raiders Website.
"What we've got here is failure to communicate."
The guy may have been insane this final decade, but you have to hand it to him… The dude knew how to win in the 70’s and 80’s and was not a compromising man on his vision.

Whether you loved or hated the guy, there’s no denying that he revolutionized the game. RIP Al.
