Seven From Sunday

A look at seven statistical highlights from games played at 1:00 p.m. ET and 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 30, the eighth week of the 2011 season.

1. The Baltimore Ravens erased a 24-3 deficit to defeat Arizona 30-27. It marked the fifth time this season that a team trailed by at least 20 points and came back to win. That is the most in a single season in NFL history. Four times – 1983, 1987, 1995 and 1999 – a season had four teams overcome a 20+ point deficit to win.

2. Baltimore wide receiver ANQUAN BOLDIN had seven catches for 145 yards in the Ravens’ win over Arizona.  Boldin played seven seasons for the Cardinals and recorded 7,520 receiving yards. Boldin’s 145 receiving yards are the most in NFL history by a player in his first game facing a team for which he had at least 7,500 receiving yards.

3. Pittsburgh quarterback BEN ROETHLISBERGER threw for 365 yards and two touchdowns in the Steelers’ 25-17 victory over New England. It marked the 75th win of his career, accomplishing the feat in 106 starts. He is the fourth-fastest quarterback to reach 75 victories among QBs who began their careers in the Super Bowl era, trailing Pro Football Hall of Famer ROGER STAUBACH (99), TOM BRADY (99) and KEN STABLER (105).

4. Minnesota running back ADRIAN PETERSON rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings’ 24-21 win at Carolina.  Peterson has rushed for 798 yards and nine touchdowns this season and has at least 750 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns in all five of his NFL seasons. He joins Pro Football Hall of Famers JIM BROWN and EMMITT SMITH and      LA DAINIAN TOMLINSON as the only players in NFL history to rush for at least 750 yards and eight touchdowns in each of his first five seasons.

5. Carolina rookie quarterback CAM NEWTON passed for 290 yards and three touchdowns against Minnesota. The performance was Newton’s fourth 290-yard passing game and he joins PEYTON MANNING (four in 1998) as the only rookie quarterbacks with at least four 290-yard passing gamesNewton, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, started against the Vikings’ CHRISTIAN PONDER, who was selected No. 12 overall. Newton, who started opposite Jacksonville’s BLAINE GABBERT (No. 10) in Week 3, is the first rookie quarterback selected in the first round to start against two first-round quarterbacks from his class since the advent of the common draft in 1967.

6. Detroit wide receiver CALVIN JOHNSON had six catches for 125 yards and one touchdown in the Lions’ 45-10 win at Denver. Johnson has 11 TD catches this season and is the second player to have at least 11 receiving touchdowns through his team’s first eight games of a season since the 1970 merger (RANDY MOSS, 11 in 2007).

7. St. Louis running back STEVEN JACKSON rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns in the Rams’ 31-21 win over New Orleans. Jackson has 51 rushing touchdowns in his career and joins Pro Football Hall of Famers MARSHALL FAULK (58) and ERIC DICKERSON (56) as the only Rams with at least 50 career rushing touchdowns.

Remember when we all thought Kruger was a bust? Yea, um…..about that.

Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.

Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang

A little slow to develop (I'm sure switching his position every year helped),

but damn am I glad he’s stepped up this year.

You come at the king, you best not miss.

yeah. That was rough. I was trying to stay positive because he’s from my school, but he took some time to get it and the position changes didn’t help either. He looked great yesterday and really all year so far. I can’t wait to see our pass rush developing more and more. It’s going to be even more nasty once we get Kindle and Mcadoo on board.

The thing that amazes me about this pass rush is that it is coming from so many guys. McPhee, Kruger, Ngata, JJ, all of them have legit sack #’s so far this season.

We had 27 sacks total last season……we have 25 already this year. Absolutely insane.

Yeah it’s been great to watch. I don’t think we will and I don’t think we should, but I can’t help but wonder if they let JJ test the market if they see more improvement from the young guys. Kruger’s playing great and then we have up and coming guys like Kindle and Mcadoo at that position and I wonder if they will want to pay him with working on a new contract for Flacco and possibly Grubbs. JJ is big for our defense and very underrated, but sometimes you have to make tough decisions like this. Will be interesting how it plays out.

My guess is that JJ takes less (yet again) to stay here. He loves playing here and already took a far lesser contract to stay with us the first time his contract came around. I wouldn’t mind moving him to ILB if Ray leaves after this year and we can’t find a suitable replacement right away.

I just think he has to take less if he wants to stay because of the young talent we have which sucks. I wonder how he would do at MLB? We also need to re-sign Grubbs or another good G because we have a serious issue there.

You always have to worry about Rex

He always likes to pick up old Raven players when he can.

I already know he will be calling if we do. One of if not his favorite player is JJ.

Yea, um…..about that

Hey, I was wrong on Kruger. I admit it. I really thought he was not going to make it as a Raven or the very least get traded. But he is not an every-down player yet. Not by a long shot. Does he need to develop into one? Do not know. Can we afford to pay him as, and carry him as, a third down pass rushing specialist? Do not know that one either.

But it short term, glad he is part of the team!

And what is the deal with Kindle? Did I see him Week 1? Has he gotten injured since then?

He wasn’t in week 1. I think he was activated week 3 or 4 because of injuries, but Harbaugh said he’s just not ready yet from a playing standpoint. He still needs to develop especially in coverage, but from what I understand he is healthy.

Any reason why this is? 5 comebacks of 20+ points and there is still half a season to go?

Its madness. Makes for great viewing, but its madness.

A little on the obscure side; but interesting nevertheless.
