This is bad
I do NOT like the idea of the Bengals having an additional first round pick, especially if it winds up being an extra 1st rounder in each of the next two years.
They say the empty can rattles the most...
You assume they are going to be successful...
at their picks. It sucks to see a divisional rival get them, but if anyone can screw it up, its the Brown family…

I think giving up first round pick was too much. I know Palmer is a good quarterback but to give up that much for him is way overboard

NFL Facebook asked who got the better of this deal.
Ummm. BENGALS obviously???? Carson is worth maybe a 3rd right now. A 1st? You kidding me???? AND A CONDITIONAL FUTURE FIRST? Holy cow Mike Brown finally did something for his franchise, but I thought Oaklands days of getting PWNED on the trading block had passed with the old man. I guess not.
Who is Oakland’s acting GM now anyway?

whoa dude… first have some respect for the dead man… and why are you so pissed? the raiders mortgaged the next four seasons to try to win this season… and i don’t blame them since they haven’t sniffed the playoffs since dialup
the bungles will have plenty of high draft picks to waste.. maybe even a couple to trade to ozzie
this is a win for the Ravens
not sure it's a win for the Ravens
Worst case scenario, the Bengals have FOUR first round picks in the next two years… the rebuilding process will skyrocket and we’ll be in for a tough few years (hopefully Dalton regresses..)
the bungles have been to the playoffs once in 20 years so i dont see the rebuilding process skyrocketing.
i love this trade
mmmkay I understand you don’t expect them to make much of these picks, I get that. What about this trade do you “love” though?
Obstacles are the things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.
I’m not pissed; I think the word would be “incredulous.” Hence the caps lock, but I could see how it would be misunderstood.
I do respect Al Davis, but there’s no use dancing around the fact that this was exactly the kind of trade he was infamous for making in his twilight years, and the kind of trade I’m sure the Raider Nation had hoped they’d seen the last of.
Not a win for the Ravens, really. At most it’s a wash. The Bengals got at least 1, and perhaps 2, first rounders for a guy they were content to get nothing for. Even if they pick two busts (easily conceivable), they still haven’t really lost anything from this trade.

Mike Brown is tied up in someone's basement.
Maybe Carson’s.

Apparently Davis is still making trades. I was expecting them to push up to a 2nd rounder just because they were desperate, but a 1st and possibly another 1st…. WOW! They must really think they have a team over there that can win a SuperBowl if they spend those types of picks on a QB with injury issues at the end of his career. I even believe that Carson has a decent sized contract as well.
I really see this as a blunder for the Raiders. Hopefully Cincy bungles up the picks, but none the less, more shots at 1st round talent probably doesn’t equal good things. They have picked up Dalton and Green recently to go with this clubbing of a trade, so they are showing signs of turning themselves around.

What the hell is Oakland thinking?
Who’s running the show over there? The zombie of Al Davis? Palmer isn’t worth one 1st round pick, let alone potentially two. And tell me if I’m wrong, but I believe Oakland is already is without their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks in the upcoming draft as is……f’n crazy!

they had nothing else to give…everyone knows that. either flush this season down the toilet or give up the coochie.
At least they don't
have to pay anyone to come into team offices for the first two days of the 2012 draft!

They were a playoff caliber team...
or at least close to one with Cambell. He is hurt, so they got a proven veteran. They obviously think they are close. They have the line to protect Carson which should be interesting because if Palmer has one justification about wanting to leave the Bengals, its that their line has sucked the entire time he has played for them.

Oakland is putting together a squad. Hate to say it but this is more ammo for Cincinnati’s rebuilding and they are doing good.

He lives....
Flacco has to trust his receivers to make catches, but shouldn’t throw towards coverage. He needs to attack deep more often, but shouldn’t hold onto the ball so long. He needs to show more awareness in the pocket and move to extend plays, but nothing good comes of him leaving the pocket. He should run with the ball if nobody’s open, but he definitely can’t run with the ball.
Flacco should have the awareness of Roethlisberger, the elusiveness of Vick, the control of the offense of Manning, the leadership of Brady, the accuracy of Brees, and the arm strength of … Flacco? - Ampallang
Carson Palmer>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Kyle Boller. That’s all that matters. Desperation equates to overpaying, but that doesn’t matter. Palmer is an upgrade. Pretty big upgrade.
Maybe he’s an upgrade. Do you remember recent Palmer? He was jumpy, off target, noodle armed and getting fairly old to go with his injury issues. Not really sure he’s an upgrade and he definitely isnt for more than a year or 2 at most.

I guess. The Raiders are a run first football team.
They aren’t asking Palmer to save them. The Raiders want him to fall in line. Palmer is still a very good or solid quarterback and that’s better than whatever the Raiders have. You could make an argument that he’s better than Jason Campbell at this point.

jumpy, off target, noodle armed and getting fairly old to go with his injury issues.
He was all those things. His only saving grace may be that Ocho Cinco made him look worse than he actually is. Ocho was a shell of his former self Carson’s last year.
Maybe Carson can do something (I’m not saying be 2005 version of himself) with all the speed he’s got now at WR.

Listen, Jason Campbell wasn't any better than Palmer
and Oakland may have still been on their way to the playoffs. Both teams win, at least for now.

Exactly...
they get a proven vet, with a massive chip on his shoulder. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Palmer working harder than ever to have success to prove what an ass Mike Brown is.

We are all assuming that Palmer has anything left in the tank to give though. I’m curious to see how well the guy performs out there in his first week because it could be really good or could be really bad.
by Mstevens_Design on Oct 19, 2011 11:30 AM EDT up reply actions
well he’s going to be running an offense that’s totally foreign to him, so don’t set the bar to high initially. Run DMC will have to help him out quite a bit.
Obstacles are the things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.
I do understand that, but he wasnt the most accurate the past few years in the league. Lets see if he can get the ball to any of his guys first.
by Mstevens_Design on Oct 19, 2011 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions
Thats saying Palmer can stay healthy first. He hasnt been known for his ability to stay on the field and not completely shut down mentally as well. It could be an upgrade, it could also be a waste of a 1st round draft pick in a week if he turtles up after getting hit a few times.

It will only appear that way, because Suggs will destroy Tebow and walk away wearing him like a suit.

This makes me scratch my head but I guess if your really that desperate, what can you do? It’s just unfortunate that the team seems like their taking a step backwards when I thought they were finally building something. You never know though, Carson could be Super Bowl bound, right?

Oakland Draft Picks
4th Round —> Jason Campbell
3rd Round —> Terrelle Pryor
1st Round —> Palmer
(plus the 2rd Round one to NE)
Plus a top one from 2013 for Palmer too.
That’s a lot of picks on Quaterbacks.

Besides this strange move, don’t you think they’ve done well for themselves?
by purpleonblack86 on Oct 18, 2011 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Not really. McFadden is basically carrying the team right now. They also have a good head coach, so that helps too.
plus a good o-line and good D....wait...thats most of the team
They have talent at WR but no real playmakers. Thats what they need.
Don't Forget
JaMarcus Russell – first overall pick in 2007.

you could have signed ngata off the franchise tag
for two 1sts
Let's see Palmer play before we make any judgments on this seemingly lopsided trade.
Palmer used to be a top 3 quarterback in the league and only twice were the Bengals able to field a team around him that was good enough to make the playoffs. Palmer looked like poo for the Bengals for his last few seasons. Blame his elbow, knee, surrounding team, or simply not being motivated. If I had to guess why he sucked, it would be all of the above.
One former Bengal that comes to mind that left and was said to be an over the hill wash-up is Corey Dillon. He wound up having a career year for the Patriots after leaving.
While the Raiders are no 2004 Patriots, they were a playoff contender with the definition of a game manager quarterback: Jason Campbell. Palmer isn’t going to be asked to do much and if the Raiders continue to win games, the media is going to be all over Carson’s nuts. Mix in Al Davis’s death and suddenly the Raiders become everyone’s dark-horse to win the Superbowl.
Is Carson worth a first and a first/second rounder? No. Does Carson fit well with the Raiders? Yes, Hue Jackson, California, a healthy run game, and great pass protection make an outstanding situation for Carson Palmer.
