Ravens Sign WR to Reserve/Future Contract
The Baltimore Ravens signed WR James Hardy to a Reserve/Future Contract. He is their first player signed to such a deal by the team. The Reserve/Future contract is designed to allow a team to acquire a player they might want to get under contract for the future, but the player cannot practice with the team until the current year is completely over. Therefore, Hardy will not be able to practice with the Ravens until the playoffs are over.
Hardy is a 6'5" receiver out of Indiana, who was drafted by the Buffalo Bills, yet rarely played before being released. Four other former Ravens were signed by other teams. WR Eron RIley and FB Mike McLaughlin were signed by the Denver Broncos. QB Drew Willy was signed by the New York Jets and TE/LB Edgar Jones was signed by the Washington Redskins.

6’5…can he be any faster than Dickson and Pita? I know its just a little signing but I hope we find a speed guy. I guess Stallworth isn’t that answer.
Why can't that be David Reed? Definitely has speed.
Stallworth only has 2 receptions on the seasons but I doubt he has all that many targets either and he has a 40+yd average so he is definitely a deep threat just not used at all.
Hardy is a wideout
We need a tall WR to make it tough to match-up for DBs.

Hardy doesn’t have great speed.

Every report I can find has Hardy running somewhere around a 4.45, which isn’t bad at all for somebody his size.
Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.
Thats amazing actually. Possession receiver is an insult to guy who can run 4.45 and is 6’5.

Wow, this was actually a guy I really wanted Ozzie to draft when he came out. His career was run down the drain in Buffalo, maybe a resurgence in Baltimore?
"My youngest brothers think I'm a dorky older brother, I can't tell jokes because, 'I'm not funny.' They're much more street smart than I am. They can say whatever they want, cause 'they're funny.' I do pick on them. I try to be funny, but they don't laugh. Even if I am funny, nothing I say is funny to them because I'm just the older brother who's not that cool." - Joe Flacco
I did too!
He went in the second round.

At least in the sense of interesting potential signings, check this out: AD in Cincy?
Is it Halloween? Full Moon? Lots of strange labor/contract stuff going on: this, guys declaring they are FA’s, high profile guys not leaving college early… Amazing the ripple effect of labor strife…
I thought that named sound familiar

I really liked this guy coming out of college
After he went into the NFL he kind of went AWOL. Hopefully he will make an impact here in Baltimore.

The book on Hardy in Buffalo was he had an injury and then he just never quite “got it”. He struggles running routes and catching passes. He was a 2nd rounder in 2009 and two UDFAs made the roster ahead of him in 2010.

I guess you could say the same thing about Willis McGahee.
He was a 2nd rounder in 2009 and two UDFAs made the roster ahead of him in 2010.
You’ll excuse me if I look for a second opinion on the Bills’ personnel diagnosis.

He's worth a shot
considering who knows what out WR corps will look like next year. Housh will likely be gone, I think Mason will be back, but he could easily decide to retire, especially if we end up winning the Super Bowl. After that, it’s a bunch of question marks. If he doesn’t work out, no big deal, if he does, good for Ozzie.
I’ve never even heard of this “Reserve/Future contract” before, is it a new thing, or did I somehow miss it all these years?
He is worth a shot but will he be just another prospect like Eron Riley and Justin Harper?

Yeah if anything he has nowhere to go but up. Because he already has no NFL career to speak of. SO worse case scenario we cut him if he doesn’t make an impact.
