Ravens Begin Season with Countdown to Kickoff

To celebrate the start of the 2010 NFL regular season, the Baltimore Ravens will host Countdown to Kickoff Week presented by Miller Lite. The week includes events on Wednesday (9/8), Thursday (9/9) and Friday (9/10) that are free and open to the public, culminating with the Ravens’ regular season opener on Monday Night Football at the New Meadowlands Stadium against the New York Jets (9/13).

The week’s activities begin Wednesday (9/8) from 6-8 p.m., when all 38 of the Ravens’ female cheerleaders – all of who were featured in the 2010-11 Cheerleader Swimsuit Calendar – join 98 Rock personalities to sign autographs and mingle with guests at Hightopps Backstage Grille in Timonium.

On Thursday (9/9), the Ravens, Miller Lite and 98 Rock will present the 2010 Kickoff Party from 5-11 p.m. at Power Plant LIVE! The celebration will include a live broadcast of the NFL season opener (Vikings at Saints), cheerleaders, mascots, talent from 98 Rock and a concert featuring Buckcherry (with opening performances by Flyleaf, Sick Puppies and Charm City Devils). Entrance to the concert is free, but space is limited to those 21 or older. In addition to the concert, there will be free giveaways and prizes.

On Friday (9/10), the Ravens will launch the 2010 Purple Fridays festivities with a traveling caravan around Baltimore.  Fans are invited to get decked-out in Ravens gear and join the afternoon caravan as it makes stops at various locations around town including M&T Bank (Charles St. & Parkville branches), Verizon (Timonium & Harbor East), Giant (Hunt Valley & Wilkens Ave.), The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and Bill Bateman’s Bistro in Glen Burnie.

Each year during Countdown to Kickoff Week, the Purple Friday celebration continues into the night. This year, the traveling group of Ravens cheerleaders, mascots and staff is scheduled to make stops at the following local bars: Emerald Tavern, McAvoy's, Firehouse Tavern, Casey’s, Angle Inn, Poncabird, Howard’s Pub, Fieldhouse, Patrick’s, Dellis', Della Roses & the Gunpowder Lodge. Each stop will feature Miller Lite specials and Ravens and Miller Lite giveaways.

We got the most picks (8) of a 25 person panel to win the Superbowl. Gotta love it.

Makes me a bit nervous.

We do better when nobody picks us.

Exactly

That’s why I’m trying to get all the Super Bowl talk out of my system before the season kicks off. After that, you won’t hear a word out of me about Super Bowls until we beat the Colts in the AFC Championship. So hear goes nothing: WE WILL WIN THE SUPER BOWL THIS YEAR! ……God that felt good.

We do better when nobody picks us.

There was one year we won the Super Bowl when nobody picked us. That hardly seems like a trend. Anyways, the Ravens need to get used to being considered media favorites; I’d like to hope that they can handle the pressure.

There were a lot more years that nobody picked us to win the Super Bowl ...

… and we didn’t win. So what exactly does that prove?

"What we've got here is failure to communicate."

I just meant in general.

Whenever people start talking about how great we are we start going downhill. They (ESPN, among others) had us at number one after week three last year and we ended up finishing 9-7. We’re just better flying under the radar.

Injuries ...

… will determine how well we do more than who picks us where. Great teams and great fans embrace the hype and then back it up. So enjoy the hype. In fact, thrive in the hype.

Walk along side the hype. Get inside the hype. Drive the hype. Laugh with the hype. Take a whiff of the hype and soak it in. Control the hype.

Be the hype.

what if

the hype is a dog named Ezekiel’s doo doo?

Umm, the dog would want to know what Ezekiel’s doo doo is a reference from? Google fail.

by BmoreBlitz on Sep 10, 2010 7:51 AM EDT up reply actions

not a reference to anything. I just make up random stuff sometimes.
