The secondary is supposed to be the Ravens' weak link, but there was no sign of trouble by that unit against the Jets. Baltimore's pass defense held up just fine, and next week the Ravens are expecting to get cornerback Lardarius Webb back into the lineup, after completing his rehab from offseason surgery.
Baltimore kept Sanchez bottled up all night long, and the Jets' 2009 first-round pick finished with a paltry 10 completions for 74 yards, a pair of sacks and a 56.4 quarterback rating.

Remember, those were the Jets
who we played last night, the ones with Sanchez, Braylon, Cotchery and Keller. Next up is a bit different with Carson, 85, TO. Big difference. but glad we still got it done last night.
aka 'Rexx'
You’re right. But Cotchery and Edwards are both solid route-runners and Carr was with them all night.
Any word on if Webb will be with us next week?

Possibly inactive due to the rain
We saw how it affected Kris Jenkins who was also coming off an ACL tear…. He tore it again and his career might be over.
Smart move holding Webb out.
Hey,
whatever works. Scott Garceau said today that maybe you bite the bullet and keep him inactive against the Bengals, hoping your secondary can hold up. Which, given that the game immediately following is at home against the Browns, that would probably give him 2 more weeks to heal up and be absolutely certain he’s healthy. Then again, his first contact would be in the sure to be extremely physical Steelers game.

I say put him in nickel and dime packages against Cincy to minimize any chance of injury but to give him a taste of game speed.

I like this idea.
Gives him a decent amount of snaps (like 15 tops), but don’t put him on TO or Ocho. Unless there’s any doubt about him being 100% healthy. In which case, don’t dress him.

Carr had a slow start last year, as did most of the defense. In the second half of the season, he was a part of one of the most prolific pass defenses in the league.
Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.
Accepted.
But playing against Manning and Rodgers (in ridiculous cold, much easier to run the ball) and Roethlisberger than no one else in the 2nd half certainly helped. Although the pass defense mostly shut down Manning. Three games against three mediocre to bad teams (Browns, Lions, Bears) with 3 questionable QBs certainly helped those numbers (74, 126, 98 passing yds respectively).
Having Frank Walker opposite him may have helped him looked good as well.

I watched the game
Now I am wondering if Don Banks did. The Jets barely threw the damn ball, 14 times before the last two minutes. Obviously, it showed no signs of trouble because Sanchez barely threw anything at it. That is mostly because of Sanchez sucking and the OC being clueless. Sanchez is, at best, a bad quarterback who checks down faster than Kerry Collins.
When they were finally forced to come at it the Ravens had a lot of leeway because the Jets had 1 TO, 90 seconds, and an 82 yard field to go. A monkey with a clip board could have scripted the defense to stop that.

Lito Sheppard is not that highly thought of as a player anymore Johnny.
against the leagues best pass defense
It means it was against last year’s best pass defense, which isn’t this years. Revis didn’t even cover Boldin the majority of the game.
Anyway, Shepapard is way better than Cromartie and a rookie. When was Cromartie ever thought of as a good player? Ask the Chargers fans about that one.

While we most all agree Rex was wrong about Cro, Rex normally is a solid evaluator of defensive talent.
Dixon played against a much improved Atlanta D

Passer rating?
He had a better rating because he was more accurate. Because he had a running game. How many deep shots did the Steelers take? I watched the Ravens, time and again, throw deep passes, and Flacco’s accuracy on deep balls was wretched.

I’ve been saying all summer that Sanchez sucks. Obviously my hopes and dreams have been realized. But still, for Carr to be running neck and neck with Cotchery and Edwards is encouraging. They’re not garbage receivers. And any time the camera showed Carr (because I was specifically looking for him), he was doing his job the right way. I’m happy with how he played.

Carr had to defend at least two targets last night that were on target and he did exceptionally well.
The one throw was to Edwards on a deep go-route down the sideline and Carr was with Edwards step-for-step. When the ball arrived, Carr got his head around and deflected the ball. The other throw was a deep out route to Cotchery. Carr had tight coverage and broke up the pass when it arrived. Those are the only two that I can remember off the top of my head.
Sure, Sanchez isn’t that great and their receivers aren’t the league’s best either, but the Ravens secondary played fast, in position and with discipline. That is a very encouraging start for them.
He is a NFL qb.1st rounder. He cud complete the pass I’m sure. I could see if he was a rookie. Last year he had the highest pass yards for a rookie QB in jet history. He can play.

If you can protect him, he’s better. But can you protect him from us? Just imagine all those times Ben sidestepped one of our pass rushers and then made a big play. Now imagine Lefty getting smashed instead of making that play. The game would be very different.
Dixon, on the other hand, can extend that play, even if he’s a bit of a liability throwing the ball. That liability is reduced slightly by the absence of Ed Reed. I’d go with DD if I were you.

Roll outs, boot legs, and delayed QB runs are.

i mean those do require new blocking schemes and I could see why you wouldn’t want to rework your entire practice session with the first team just to accommodate Dixon. He can still use his speed for improvization.

How could this be satirical? Banks was simply stating the facts.
He said that the Ravens’ secondary showed no weakness versus the Jets, and that’s a fact. He said that Webb should be returning next week, and that’s a fact. He said that Sanchez was bottled up all night with a 56.4 quarterback rating, and that’s a fact. It’s not like he said that the Ravens’ secondary is the most talented in the league. He was just stating that they had a very strong start with no signs of weakness.
NFL.com power rankings has the ravens at 3rd best. We win next week and we may start to hear more hype.

Dixon amost beat us last year and I think if Tomlin let him run more and play on pure natural instinct the Steelers would have one. I see our game as an even matchup. Dixon=Flacco simply because Dixon can extend plays and Flacco can’t.
We finally cancelled out Ward by adding Boldin. Suugs might be ready to play and= Harrison. It will come down the to the run game and d-line pressure. We win the run game and lose the rush game. It will be tight.
Should be a fun one in Cincy Sunday
Sanchez can make any secondary look good, if you shut down Palmer, T.O., Ocho, Shipley, Gresham, and Benson then I will give you mad props. The real test for the both of our squads will be Sunday at PBS

You right, Webb, Cody, and Wilson should be in the lineup. Atleast Cody. I like our chances. Should count on Flacco having a better game and having rice make more plays. Good luck, alot is riding on this game.
