The Ravens surprisingly cut cornerback Walt Harris just eight days into training camp.
The team replaced him with Chris Hawkins, an undrafted rookie cornerback out of LSU who was recently released by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Harris, 35, struggled to pass the team's conditioning test. He said he had a sore Achilles tendon. Harris then frequently missed practices this past week.
The Ravens signed Harris in June to add depth to their cornerback group. He intially declined the Ravens' veteran minimum offer. The Ravens then increased the deal with incentives to sign him

With as thin as we are in the secondary right now, he must have been performing pretty poorly to get cut. I mean, for Ozzie to not want him around just as another body for camp and preseason, he probably hasn’t returned to his old self after his injury. Hopefully this Hawkins guy can bring something to the table.

I think it was more
due to him not recovering from his injury, like you pointed out. To me, it sounds like his career might be over. At 35 years old its tough to come back after missing a full season.
That or Hawkins looked REALLY good.

ya he must have been truly awful or unprofessional for an outright cut this early!

Disagree, once Webb gets back
Webb and Washington are middle of the pack to me, and will look very solid if we have a good pass rush.
Before Webb gets back it could be ugly, I’ll give you that.
Hopefully its 6 games max, and more like 2-4 games
Still not good, but a way better spot to be in then the Steelers, who are missing their best offensive player, Ben, for a similar amount of time (And have also lost Colon for season).
Really, its on our pass rush to step it up. If they do, I think we will be just fine until Webb returns. If not, it could get ugly.
I wouldn’t quite say that, but I am definitely worried. I’m so jealous of what Rex has up in New York. Revis, Cromartie, and rookie Kyle Wilson. I drool at the thought of what guys like that could do for our team.

Yea
They are stacked at CB, but remember Reivis isn’t practicing, and that situation could get ugly.
They easily beat us there, but I think we have an even bigger advantage between Flacco >>> Sanchez.
Did you know Sanchez had 135 less pass attempts then Joe, yet had 10 more turnovers?
Interesting stat there
On the QB’s. The longer sits out the better it is for us.
and rookie qb’s are very much intimidated by our D. we are gonna knock the sucker around. with the way Ellerbeast and Landry have been whacking people this training camp, plus Ray, JJ and a slimmer Suggs. That is scary. throw is Ngata and the way Cody is unstoppable without a double team, and i predict 4 sacks on Suckchez!

Although we all loved him pre-draft. You gotta remember Wilson hasn’t done shit in the league yet. It’s not like he was a huge free agent signing, he was a CB with a lot of raw talent that never proved himself against high caliber talent on a regular basis.
Wilson> Harris/Hawkins/Dutch

Ozzie knows what he’s doing. And if alt Harris doesn’t play well, would you want him starting? No. I think Ozzie might have legitimately saw something in Chris Hawkins.

Looks like Harris got IR'd instead of cut
Chris Hawkins was probably one of the UFAs they wanted to sign and were glad to scoop him up once the Jags released him. His scouting report is not bad – decent speed (a 4.49 40) and height (6’0) and some press skills. Probably a practice squad guy.

This makes me kinda sick
Damn, I wish we would have picked him. I know Malor and I, and I’m sure any other UMD guys, knew Carroll was going to be a player. I was hoping he’d get cut so we could scoop him up but its looking doubtful.
And I normally don't second guess Oz
But I thought at the time, and still think we should have selected Sean Smith instead of Kruger in the second round of the 09’ draft. Oh well, nobody’s perfect (but Oz is close).
I hate that I like the Dolphins CB’s so much.
Damn, This is like Demetrius Williams over Brandon Marshall all over again.
