Ravens acquire CB Josh Wilson in trade with Seattle.
The Ravens gave Seattle a conditional fifth-round draft pick, which can become a fourth-round pick based on Wilson's performance and playing time with the Ravens.
Wilson isn't the biggest or most physical corner but is know for being very fast and an excellent return man. We all suspected that the Ravens would make a trade for a corner. Wilson isn't Asomugha, but I think this is an excellent move... especially for only a fifth-round pick.
"He’s an extremely fiery and aggressive player, and I think he’s very talented," said Foxworth, who played with Wilson for three years at Maryland. "I know his personality fits into what we’re building here. Josh is a no-nonsense type of guy that fits in with this defense and what it means to be a Raven. Off the field, he is a high-integrity guy. He’s a family man, who is very smart and community-minded."

any word on the details of the pick?
nice to see them get a guy without losing a guy
So we got another fabian. Reading the ravens site he had six interception in tha last two years and returned three of them for touchdowns.

From a Seahawks fan...
I hate to see Wilson go. He was one of my favorite players. Very fast, aggressive. Awesome attitude. Not sure why we traded him, but I’m glad he went to one of my “other” teams. I hope he does very well in black and purple.
It's Great to be a Florida Gator!

great to hear

Well hopefully he can come in and make an impact for the team, and not just be an extra body (ex Doug Dutch). We all knew it was just a matter of time til Ozze pulled the trigger and brought in another guy, now let’s see what this guy can do…..

He's no Doug Dutch
I went to UMD all four years when Josh was there, and he is a solid corner. As has been said, he is a speed guy, and not tremendously physical, but that is only due to his size. He is very aggressive and is a gamer. He will fit in well on this D. I can see him potentially starting over Washington when Webb is back to full strength, or being a very good nickel.
but unlike Prince Miller
Wilson will be playing for the Ravens this season
you may be right but I figure the ravens may keep prince miller since he is
so far the better man in punt returns
Wilson is one of the league’s best returners. Watch the video below. He’s electric as a returner.
Prince Miller is a poor man’s Josh Wilson.
The deal could have been done for that reason as well as CB. Carr isn’t really what we want I guess. Miller does not bring too much, and Wilson has shown he can be dominant in the return game.
or just the fact of insurance since Ladarius Webb is not
100 percent yet and Cary Williams being suspended for two games.
watch this and tell me what you think he can do...

this guy is going to be a demon in the nickle for us… not to mention hes going to have one of the greatest ball hawks ever in his ear guiding him in Reed can you say pic 6? scary to think what this defense is going to look like come playoff time.
It's good to love to win but it's better to hate to lose.

Wow is this a good move or not a good move I just know that the seahawks
fans are not too happy about this trade I guess he most be really good.
Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!!
We could possibly have a Terp duo starting for us one day with Foxworth and Wilson. Amazing!
Wow, what a great move by Ozzie, I was actually thinking about this before and I think it even came up on here a few times as a possibility. This solves alot of problems.
Dude… read the reactions of Seattle fans to this news. Holy crap! They are going balistic!
Many of them are saying that Wilson was their favorite player and that he has out-played his second round selection. How in the world did Ozzie get Wilson for a fifth round pick? Wilson is going to excel in our defense. I’m amazed… really amazed… and I’m accustomed to Ozzie being awesome. I’m guessing Ozzie just gave good ‘ol Pete a ’welcome to the NFL’ moment. I’m so fired up about this trade!
I saw it they are really mad and I guess we really got a good player its going to
be a little rough for him because he has to learn the playbook in such a short time. I wonder if the seahawks runs a 3-4 defense like us then it wouldn’t be so hard for him if so
Yea man, this guy is the real deal. Of course my Terp love and homerness speaks out loud a little, but he was a first round draft pick for a reason, and it is not like he was taken 8 years ago. The guy is still young, has incredible speed (very good return man) and is just an overall play maker.
Ozzie is the freaking man! And now we do not have to give up any of our players to get this done. We are stacked at CB once everyone comes back healthy and strong. Foxworth, Webb, Wilson and Fabian is a group of #1 and #2 guys. Love it!!!!!!!!!
This deal seems too good to be true… Wilson for a fifth round pick? Incredible!
After reading the reactions of Seattle fans, I think this sounds like another trade-rape by Ozzie Newsome.
That depends on the development of Kindle, Cody and Tebow. Right now, I’m liking the immediate addition of Wilson.
With the injury to both kindle and cody I think the jury is out for now on that one… though Tebow sucks so horribly right now it might stay in competition
Any new news on this Cody thing? If he’s getting his knee scoped, that’s a pretty big deal

its the last year of his contract and they aren’t planning on paying him. i wouldn’t pay more then a 4th rounder for one year of play from a guy

Here’s an excellent article about Wilson in the 2009 season, and here’s the Seahawks’ blog’s article on the trade.
Everyone should read that first article. The Ravens just acquired a great player.
Dang… No wonder Seahawks’ fans love Wilson. He’s an amazing player. That video is awesome. I can’t stop watching it.
Wow, he might end up being the best DB on our roster
and between him and Webb, we could end up stacked at this postion once everyone is healthy!

Getting Cary Williams back who has looked damn good as well. I am totally comfortable with the 2ndary we have. All we need is Reed back.
Our secondary is now legit. I don’t care if Foxworth hadn’t been injured. This trade would have still been awesome.
It just gives us soooooo much more room to work with and saves us the headaches of figuring this mess out. We no longer have to worry about a guy starting for us in the first few weeks that is probably better suited as a nickel and dime DB (Fisher, Carr, etc.)
awesome. this is awesome. I came upon this news much later than all of you but having gone over the comments up to this point I’m sufficiently stoked.

Amazing playmaker! I would have gave up a second rounder to get him. Parmele just lost his starting KRing job.
2nd rounder? hell no
but a 4th and a 6th with no conditions? in a second!
by Rayisyourdaddy on Sep 1, 2010 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Did you watch the highlight video? We don’t have a corner on our roster who’s done that kind of stuff (including Webb).
dude- so what?
I wouldn’t give up a 2nd rounder for Champ Bailey, why would I give it up for Josh Wilson. Now if Wilson had another year on his current contract, than i would have thought about a 4th/conditional 3rd, but not for a 1 year rental.
GM’s don’t give away 2nd rounders so easily. Look at Q; the difference between what Arizona wanted for him with 2 years left on his deal (1st rounder), and with 1 year left (3rd and 4th rounders).
Wilson is good, but he also his limitations (height). However, he is a steadily improving player with upside, who is young, from MD, and a model citizen. On a 1 year rental, that isnt worth more than a 4th and a 6th; for 2+ years, it is probably worth a 3rd and a 5th.

Sometimes you got to sacrifice a little to win this year.
This could be Ray’s last good year. One of these years coming up he’s just going to lose almost all his talent. It’s not a gradual slide down hill for LBs(look at Derrick Brooks). Also, there may not be football next year. Ray will probably retire if that happens. Our D would take a signifcant hit if then. The time to win is now.
We were lacking a real playmaker at CB. Now we got one. In my eyes, that would have been worth a second.
Don’t forget we’ll also have the opportunity to re-sign him before he hits free agency. If Oz wants to keep him, he’ll find a way.
Sometimes you got to sacrifice a little to win this year.
Yea, but sometimes you can also sacrifice very little to win this year, IE giving up a 5th round pick for Wilson. Ozzie knows how to not overspend.
Malor-
But the issue we are debating is whether you would have given a 2nd rounder if that was the going price for Wilson. He says yes, because thats the sacrifice you need to make to win this year. I am saying #1, even with wilson, its not a guarantee, so while I would give up a 2nd if it was a guarantee, I wouldn’t for wilson who will definitely help. I would give a 4th/conditional 3rd rounds for him, but no way in hell i would give a 2nd. Those are way too valuable in this league.

Ed Reed says he won't be the best
Personally I think Webb can possibly overtake him as well. However he is a solid addition and makes our defense much stronger.

He has mad return skills!
Don’t know if we can afford to risk him doing kick-off returns, but his vision is tremendous and he cuts into the seam like a freaking rocket!
And he can tackle (unlike Fabian) and catch the ball (unlike Fabian). Not trying to throw Fabian under the bus here, I like Fabian’s cover skills, but he does get eaten up in run support and one-on-one tackling big receivers. Wilson gets low and delivers a blow. This guy needs to start.
"What we've got here is failure to communicate."
He’s probably one of the best slot-cover guys too. He has excellent quickness and is a demon versus WR screens.

Holy crap, that return against Green Bay in the beginning was amazing. It was like LeRon running the ball! He was running people over.
Yeah, he broke like five tackles… and not with just speed, but with power. That’s amazing for a small guy.
he's super high-energy
he seems amped in all of these plays. I love guys like that. Their plays can rub off on other guys. WOW!!!!! OZZIE IS THE GREATEST!!!!

Dude
I cannot say enough how hyper aggressive this guy is – I watched him all four years at UMD – we were in the same graduating class. If I or anyone else alluded to him not being an overly physical corner, it is only due to the limitations of his size, as he is forced to play more of a speed game as a result.
He is always high energy, amped and ready to do battle. As Dom said, he is going to fit in great on the Raven’s defense. I think he will take his game to anther level playing near his hometown for our storied D.
Barring everyone recovering fully, I predict a season ending CB depth chart…
1. Webb
2. Wilson
3. Washington
4/5. Carr/Williams – Not sure on the last one – need to see more from Cary but I like what he has done so far. Carr is great as a dime back (or 5th CB) and will be able to focus on his return duties.
That is an awesome group at CB, especially if we can improve the pass rush, and thats without arguably our best corner, Foxworth.
by DT711 on Sep 1, 2010 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
Rec’d. Gotta love it.
You said Carr can focus on the punt return duties, but do we think there is anyway Wilson does punts as well? I am not sure if Parmale’s job at kick offs is secure with Wilson coming in. This has been one of the league’s best returners and the coaches may feel that they don’t even need to see any preseason action to make Wilson the returner.
For Terps (and I'm sure most other people who have a die hard college team)
It doesn’t get any better then when your favorite professional team adds one of your fellow Terrapins. We root for these guys anyway, so you can imagine how much sweeter it is when they play for the Ravens. With Dom and Josh both being local guys (Foxworth more so to Baltimore) it makes it even sweeter.
I have never gotten that feeling! while I like the terps, i am mainly a USC Trojans fan, and no Trojan has ever been drafted by the ravens (does that say something about trojan players in the pros?)

USC has had lots of great pro’s, just not so many recently. There are a bunch though. Sedrick Ellis, Carson Palmer, Rey Maluaga, Clay Mathews, Brian Cushing, Lofa Tatupu, Polamalu, etc.
here is a blurb:
7. USC
Draft picks since 1999: 56
First-round picks: 13
Highlights: QB Carson Palmer, S Troy Polamalu, LB Lofa Tatupu, DT Mike Patterson, QB Matt Cassel
Lowlights: WR R. Jay Soward, G Travis Claridge, WR Keary Colbert, T Jacob Rogers, WR Mike Williams, DT Shaun Cody
Skinny: The jury is still out on USC’s three most recent classes, which include a whopping 26 draft picks. That collection – and the 2006 class in particular – has the potential to make or break this program as an NFL talent producer. Despite coach Pete Carroll’s overwhelming success this decade with USC, the program has never really lived up to expectations on the NFL level. The struggles of players such as Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart and busts Williams and Dwayne Jarrett have marred a production level in the NFL that many assumed would rival the Miami classes from earlier this decade. The good news for Trojans fans is that Carroll continues to recruit at an absurdly high level, and provides open access to NFL teams.
"We could have someone in there anytime we want to see a player. They are about as open with the whole deal as you get," an AFC general manager said. "Pete [Carroll] embraces that the NFL is part of life in his kind of program. Maybe that will change with [Mark] Sanchez leaving earlier than he expected."

there are actually alot of them. The more I think about it, the more of them I think of. But for some reason, there are no ravens at all out of USC.
by Rayisyourdaddy on Sep 2, 2010 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Maybe
But I think they will mainly use him at DB for now. We are just way too thin at corner to take any additional risks. Once Webb and Washington are back and playing well, they might consider it, but it will also depend on how Wilson has played to that point. If he’s our top guy at corner then they likely wouldn’t use him (save for a few big game situations, ala Ed Reed), but if he is knocked down to third corner or lower (once everyone returns) I think there is a good chance they use him as their regular return guy.
and
people don’t define this guy as “physical?”
I literally just saw this guy run over 3 green bay packers on a kick return.
and shake off/run through at least 2-3 guys once he gets the ball.

Official Team Press Release:
Aug. 31, 2010
For Immediate Release
RAVENS ACQUIRE CB WILSON FROM SEATTLE
The Baltimore Ravens have acquired CB Josh Wilson, pending passing a physical, from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a conditional 2011 draft pick, executive vice president/general manager Ozzie Newsome announced Tuesday evening.
"Josh is someone who has started a lot of games for a young player, plus he has been a good special teams player both as a kick returner and in coverages," Newsome stated. "He adds depth to our secondary and will help us. Pending his physical, we expect Josh to be taking snaps against the Jets on opening night."
Wilson, a former University of Maryland standout, enters his fourth NFL season. The 5-9, 192-pounder was selected in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft (55th overall).
He has played in 40 career games (24 starts), posting 124 total tackles (111 solo), six interceptions (for 261 return yards and three touchdowns) and 23 passes defensed. Wilson has also tallied 94 kickoff returns for 2,350 yards (25.0 avg.) and one touchdown (89 yards) during his career.
Last season, he played in 12 games (all starts) for the Seahawks. He returned two interceptions for touchdowns, including a 61- and a 65-yarder.
"He’s an extremely fiery and aggressive player, and I think he’s very talented," added Ravens CB Domonique Foxworth, who played with Wilson for three years at Maryland. "I know his personality fits into what we’re building here. Josh is a no-nonsense type of guy that fits in with this defense and what it means to be a Raven. Off the field, he is a high-integrity guy. He’s a family man, who is very smart and community-minded."
The Ravens hope to have Wilson in Baltimore on Wednesday. It is not known at this time if he will make the team’s trip to St. Louis for the final preseason game on Thursday.

Got to watch Wilson in the NFC West facing the Cardinals. Wilson can play the game. Ozzie could have done much worse than Wilson. How does Ozzie do what he does so often?
I honestly think other GM’s are intimidated by Ozzie. He calls them and gives them the info and I feel like guys can’t say no to him. Like the Boldin trade and so on. We never give up too much for these players. It always seems like we are the winners in every deal when we get a player of need (Wilson) and give up basically nothing for him (5th/4th round pick).
Just amazing.
If fans want to see

I thought...
We gave up too much for McNair, and Willis it was border-line too much. Other than that, what we gave up for Pryce, Boldin, Wilson, Washington etc. were all steals on our end.
Also, THIS GUY PLAYS LIKE A RAVEN. He is relentless and physical, never shying from contact. Takes the hit to pick up a few extra yards, breaks tackles, and doesn’t go down easy. Sounds like the Q of CB. He should have 6 picks playing in our system, with good pressure, and the mighty Ed Reed back there, even as our nickel back. And he is only 25. The only thing is he is a FA after this year, and so is Fabian, so whomever plays better will probably be brought back and the other one let go…

I doubt it. The Ravens have learned their lesson about cornerback depth. They should keep them all.
Agreed. One thing I always hear about football is that you cannot have enough quality CB’s. I would love to keep Foxworth, Webb, Washington, Wilson and still draft a CB in the top 3 rounds.
Would rather keep Cary Williams than use a top 3 rounds pick. We need to spend a high pick on O-line next year, and maybe ILB.

It’s too early to be worrying about the draft. Lots of unpredicatable things are going to happen between now and then.
it all depends on who makes the best game tape this year

Ozzie: Hey, John? Look, let me be honest with you because you know what’s going on. We’re in win now mode but we need that final cornerstone. We think Josh Wilson is it, he could start for us week 1.
John: I see.
Ozzie: What I’m saying is, we want this kid.
John: Ok, but we can go no lower than the 7th round!
Ozzie: …what?
John: Ok, a 6th rounder, but that’s my final offer.
Ozzie: I’m not sure you understand how this works. I approached you, you’re supposed to bend me over the barrel.
John: Look, I’m just saying, a 5th is the most we can ask.
Ozzie: But we’re talking about a starter here. I’m serious, a week 1 starter. Shouldn’t you be asking for a 2nd rounder, if not a 1st?
John: FINE. 5th rounder, conditional to a 4th!

Because they only use it for when you state the subject of your comment. If you just simply write a comment in the subject box, it pisses them off.
Them being mad....
Doesn’t mean so much in my book, except he is a solid player. The price wasn’t outrageous because it is a 1 year rental of a guy they weren’t likely to re-sign, on a team that has virtually no super-bowl chance. So they are mad because he is a great guy, fun to watch, and one of their better players. But if they were planning on re-signing Jennings and not Wilson, this was a solid trade for team still rebuilding. The fans cannot possibly know the FO future intentions. The only way they will look really dumb is if Jennings goes down with a really bad injury.
I think this would seem to be slightly below market value, because Holmes is a slightly better player, and they got a 4th rounder for him despite the 4 game suspension.
I am concerned about the impact of this trade for next year, because once Foxworth comes back next year, we will have to let go of either Wilson, Carr or Fabian. It will be a very tough choice, so we will have to see how it goes. I just hope they cut Fisher now, and give Prince a 2 game audition during Cary Williams suspension, see if he can play in the regular season.

or Cary Williams (about who we will have to let go next year)
by Rayisyourdaddy on Sep 1, 2010 2:05 PM EDT up reply actions
We don't know FO future intentions, that's true.
I can’t speak for every Seahawk fan, but I think a lot of us are angry because we can’t understand why the FO would lose Wilson to keep Jennings. Wilson might be two inches shorter but he is a much better player and is two years younger.
Thank you, Walter Jones.
Thank you, Ken Griffey Jr.
but compare
it to Pittsburgh trading Santonio Holmes, a border-line pro-bowler for a 4th, also in a contract year (he is suspended 1st 4 games). Similar value for us. I think it would have been fairer if the 4th wasn’t conditional, but I think he will likely play enough to make it a 4th anyways.
by Rayisyourdaddy on Sep 1, 2010 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions
Holmes is not really a great comparison
If not for his run ins with the law (and the Rooney’s disdain for players who are character problems, even Ben; he is their multiple time SB winning QB and they reportedly shopped him) and eventual four game suspension, he would still be in Pitt.
They were clearly selling low because they felt they had to… The reason the Seahawks sold low on Wilson is anyones guess; which is why I think their fans are so mad.

Agreed. Wilson was a high character guy. Why sell him off when you have an unproven injury prone rookie behind him? Doesn’t make sense.
But, as once happened to me
When several of us drove to NYC for a weekend convention. Arrived at 5:30 on Friday and parked in a garage for the weekend. Left at 6:30 on Sunday. When we pulled up to the booth to pay, the woman misread the ticket as our having been there for only 1 hour and said, “that’ll be $12.00.”
I’d say the same things to Ozzie as I kept chanting to the driver when he started to question the price – “Pay the lady. Just PAY THE LADY!!”

That’s some of the best sports writing I’ve seen in a while.
Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.
We're bitter.
Can you blame us? It’s been a really crappy couple years for Seattle sports fans.
Thank you, Walter Jones.
Thank you, Ken Griffey Jr.
Bitter is an Understatement
I just finished reading two of the threads over there at "Field Gulls and wow, I would be scared to be walking under any ledges in the Great Pacific Northwest today due to all the falling bodies…
I was going to post a sympathy card or something…
Can’t blame you at all. I feel for you guys. There is not much else in Washington besides sports, so I am sure it hurts to see this stuff go on. Just stick with it, you will turn it around soon.
what a horrible way to start a coaching tenure...
Pete Carrol doesn’t look like he knows what he’s doing. I’m still scratching my head over the LenDale White thing.

He had us all won over with the draft
but the new regime’s trades have ranged from “meh” to “mother———!”
Thank you, Walter Jones.
Thank you, Ken Griffey Jr.
I’m willing to bet he get’s #30. For some reason that seams like a good number match to me. Anyone else?
The Orioles are going to open a can of Buck-Wieser on your ass......
I think Miller makes PS, if that’s the case does he still have “Ownership” over #22?

Um im not so sure..
This seems just to good to be true it doesnt add up. Ozzie is good but no one is that good right?! Im so confused on why the seahawks would trade him. I feel like there is an unknown part in this deal. It does not sound right at all.

i would guess that he just wasnt fitting in with the new head coach style? Maybe it just has something to do with carol wanting to remake the team his way, hence getting more draft picks.
This might clear some stuff up. Not sure
“Josh was a great player for us and we love him,” coach Pete Carroll said. “John (Schneider) said when he got here he wanted to create a roster that other teams wanted to come after, and this is an illustration of that. Because of a good draft this year and other players that have been here, we’ve got some good pieces in place that will seize this opportunity. We’re really excited to see how Kelly (Jennings), Walter (Thurmond) and Roy (Lewis) rise up and make the most of this chance.”
Another explination
"They were splitting time," said Carroll. "Both guys could play for us. Kelly has done a wonderful job for us. He’s really a good technique player and we’re pleased as heck to have him. We were able to do this because of those other guys. That’s really what made it possible."
Sounds dumb. This is almost like us trading away Webb next year for a 5th round pick because we like what we see out of Cary Williams and Prince Miller.
thats exactly what it is

No because Wilson and Jennings both had starting experience, and they both are solid #2’s.

Seattle likes big corners I think thats the main thing
get some value for him knowing the Seahawks were not going to esign him next year. He has become a serviceable corner.
"Sorry bro, he Jason Bourned me"- Drama
they like big CB, and they have a young guy they want to develop as the #3 CB, so Wilson was in the way, and they were going to have to pick between him and Jennings next year. So if they get the 4th rounder, its not a bad haul for a rental.

Impressive
I think that’s the very definition of “fluid hips”. This move definately gets you guys closer to the Super Bowl.
It turns out I overestimated my apathy, but not enough to matter.
Wow...great pickup for you guys
He is only 5’9 but a great player for what it costs. I was waiting for a CB pickup I didnt know it would be Wilson but I think you guys will be happy with him this year.

Opposing QBs had a 71 QB rating throwing into Wilson’s coverage in ’09. No other SEA corner was under 100

Our data shows Josh Wilson was by far Seattle’s best CB last year with a +6.2 PFF rating, and the only SEA CB to score well in coverage

Who in Baltimore has the questionable information on a Seattle Big Whig?
First the Bedard trade, and now this. Somebody did something really bad in Seattle, and someone in Baltimore must have proof. I feel bad for that city.
Michael McCrary also came over from Seattle as a FA. We have a good track record with their players.
At least Adam Jones hasn’t improved his plate discipline yet, hahaha

The negative part of the TRADE
is that this may be a rental…. he may need a similar contract (maybe a step below) of foxworths….. and the seahwks didnt see them resigning him… i would much rather keep this kid than fabian…. but if he leaves and gets a large contract we would probably get a comp pick in the 5 or 4th round anyway…
He looks like a baller… and with no carr, or washington next year the ravens need to get this kid signed to play nickel for balt… 25 yrs old great trade ozzie
Worst case outcome...
He plays one year and bolts for free agency and we lose a fourth round pick. Considering this was a need based trade, I think it’s worth it.
by 3r1c on Sep 1, 2010 8:57 AM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
If he helped you get far in the playoffs and maybe even a superbowl
thats not worth a 4th round pick? This is a win for the Ravens without a doubt. Schneider doesn’t like small corners, any other team wouldn’t of made this trade imo.
There is no negative to this trade for the Ravens imo.
"Sorry bro, he Jason Bourned me"- Drama
Absolutely!
I was thinking the same thing. If it gets us a shiny new Lombardi, who cares?
Jeez, we were tossing around various first round pick scenarios to win a SuperBowl before. A fourth, at worse? Are you kidding me?
But on a more serious note, I guess this explains while we got not credible offers for Troy Smith’s ridiculous low tender -the market is as the market does…
Which reminds me: I am sure if we had traded a fourth AND Troy Smith to Seattle, everybody here would have okay with that also.
Yeah things got a little weird this year with what players were worth in trade value.
This is this is the best Ravens team I have seen awhile, time to go for broke.
"Sorry bro, he Jason Bourned me"- Drama
On a side note
Anybody knows what’ll happen to this trade if there’s a lockout next year? Would the 4th/5th get pushed back to 2012, or would it just fall off the books (not likely)?
I’ve heard that the draft will occur regardless of the CBA status.
Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.
on top of that...
next years draft will be pretty thin anyway
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/01/20/cba.qa/index.html
Q. Will there be a college draft in 2011?
A. Yes.
This is from a Q&A fact sheet released by the NFL.
Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.
I’m no expert on the economics of professional football, but it seems weird to hold a draft prior to a season that could be marked by a lockout. These guys are drafted by whichever team, and then go flip burgers until the NFL comes back online? Maybe I’m missing something.
Water covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface. Ed Reed covers the rest.
I think they could play in the UFL or Arena Football League.
I think the organizations only own the rights to the players since signing contracts probably won’t happen until the CBA is complete.
It means that within the NFL, the drafting team has exclusive rights to sign that player. So as soon as a CBA fell into place, those teams would then be allowed to begin negotiating to sign their draft picks, even if it were (theoretically) 10 years later.

While we're at it
Why don’t we just sign UMD’s cornerbacks’ coach too? Why go out and search for Terp corners when we could just make them?!
They say the empty can rattles the most...
Would have been great if we drafted Nolan Carroll this year. He is a big, physical CB on the Dolphins now and all I hear is how good he looks. Would have been amazing to have Foxworth, Wilson and Carroll.
Carroll is going to be so good
He didn’t even play Corner until midway through his college career (and he missed basically his whole senior year due to an injury).
Damn Dolphins had to be smart and draft him above his projected slot.
I said that the Seahawks were a good trade partner, but I doubted they would give up Wilson over Jennings, let alone for this pick. I thought they would trade Jennings, who apparently all the Seahawks fans loathe, because they like Wilson more. But apparently Carroll doesn’t like him. Btw, for the record I would have given one of our DT depth players (McKinney, Talavou, Jones, Divens) PLUS this pick, and it still would have been a solid trade in my mind!
anybody else laughing as hard as i am at the hawk fans reactions to this deal?
It's good to love to win but it's better to hate to lose.
Yeah exactly, I don’t have anything against Seattle, except for the fact that their head coached abandoned USC when he was needed the most. But they’re one of the teams that I actually like. I think all they need is QB.

qb?
clearly you haven’t seen their roster. They are solid at LB and they were solid in the secondary. their d-line is young and unproven. their o-line was not good last year, and their WR corp needs improvement
at qb they have former pro bowler hasselback, and they just gave up multiple draft picks for charlie whitehurst, who they think will be good.
they clearly bet the house on Whitehurst. I gotta admit I like the way he looks, but boy they sure did pay top-dollar for him.
Curry has been a bit of a dissapointment, hasn’t he?

I had to share this...
I was watching the NFL Replay of our preseason game against the Giants and I noticed this gem from Jerry Sandusky in the 4th quarter.
Brad Jones drops a sure pick.
Stan: “Now Brad Jones is a guy who the Ravens released, and then brought back in. So he knows he is on the fringe. That is a play that could keep him on this team after the cuts to 75 men.”
Sandusky: “He does not have favored nation status at the UN.”
(silence for 5 to 10 seconds. Jerry breaks his own silence with the next play-by-play call.)
