The Battle for roster spots!

Locks: Offense 17, Defense 19, ST 3, Injured to start year: 5

QB: Joe Flacco, Marc Bulger

RB/ FB: Ray Rice, Willis McGahee, LerRon McClain

OL: Michael Oher, Ben Grubbs, Matt Birk, Marshal Yanda, Jared Gaither, Chris Chester

WR/TE: Derrick Mason, Anquan Boldin, Mark Clayton, Todd Heap, Ed Dickson, Dennis Pitta

DL: Kelly Gregg, Haloti Ngata, Terrence Cody, Trevor Pryce, Paul Kruger, Cory Redding

LB: Ray Lewis, Jarret Johnson, Terrell Suggs, Antwan Barnes, Jameel McClain, Tavares Gooden, Danell Ellerbe

CB/S: Fabian Washington, Chris Carr, Lardarius Webb, Tom Zbikowski, Dawan Landry, Haruki Nakamura

ST: P Sam Koch, K (Cundiff or Graham), LS Morgan Cox

Injured Reserve: Domonique Foxworth, Ed Reed, Donte Stallworth, Sergio Kindle, Cary Williams (suspended)

Taken: 39/53 to start the year, with 4 players hopefully returning during the year.  That leaves time for a player who likely wouldn't have made the roster a chance to prove himself in the regular season

The Battles for the other roster spots

RB: Curtis Steele vs. Jalen Parmale (dark horse Matt Lawrence)  Haven't seen enough of them to break down who has the edge, but while I like Steele as a player, I like more that Parmale can not only cover kicks and punts, but can return them too.  A RB3 is unimportant enough that it is ideal to be able to use him in a high risk situation like kick and punt returns.

WR4 and WR5: Demetrius Williams vs. Marcus Smith vs. David Reed.  I am a big Marcus Smith fan, and he was looking real good last pre-season, besides being a ST stud.  I think with the Stallworth injury, he has a bead on the WR4 position. The other spot will likely go to either Reed or Williams, and the plus is even if one of our top 3 WR goes down with an injury, we have Stallworth coming back mid-season to bolster our team.

DL: Kelly Talavou vs. Brandon McKinney vs. Lamar Divens vs. Arthur Jones.  I love Jones, and Talavou looks great in the preseason.  I assume we will keep 2 and try to trade one or 2 of the others.  McKinney has also looked good, so maybe we will see what we can get for him instead of cutting him.

LB: Brendan Ayanbadejo vs. Jason Phillips vs. Edgar Jones vs. Albert McClellan. It is looking like BA might not be ready to start the season, and there is a possibilty we might cut him outright. Jones has looked good, and is a great ST contributor, so with Kindle out he might grab that spot to start the year. Phillips has looked solid, and it might be good to carry 5 ILB, so he might grab BA's spot if he isn't good to go.

CB/S: Travis Fisher vs. Prince Miller vs. KJ Gerard vs. Ken Hamlin vs.Marcus Paschal. I think at this point Prince Miller would make it over Fisher if there was only one spot, but there is 2 with Cary Williams suspension, so Fisher will have a chance in the first 2 games to show that his being burned regularly in the preseason was a fluke.  If not, I think we let him go once Cary Williams is back.  At S, we must keep a S until Reed is back, and I havent seen anything from Paschal that makes him look much better than Hamlin, who has looked pedestrian.

Troy Smith, Davon Drew, Mike McLaughlin, David Hale, Oniel Cousins, Tony Moll, Ramon Harewood.  Do any of these players convince us they are worth cutting a better player at a different position that will contribute more, or is their position so weak that we need them for depth. Smith, Hale, Cousins and Moll are all likely in. The other 3 likely out.

Remaining 14 spots:

1 QB- Troy Smith

1 RB: Jalen Parmale

2 WR: Marcus Smith and Demtrius Williams (David Reed to practice squad

3 OL: David Hale, Oniel Cousins, Tony Moll (Ramon Harewood to practice squad)

2 DL: Kelly Talavou, Arthur Jones

2 LB: Jason Phillips, Edgar Jones

2 CB: Travis Fisher, Prince Miller

1 S: Ken Hamlin

These are just my opinions based on the games I have seen and the articles on BB about the training camps, plus some of my own preferences.

Who do you disagree with me about? Who do you like to make the roster?
