For those of you who ever read the Yahoo NFL news, you have probably read the article written by the so called "expert" Jason Cole where he lists the best to worst teams in terms of their linebacking core. I will honestly say right now, that was the worst put together list I have ever read. Aside from Pittsburgh being first which I (even though I nearly puke thinking about it) happen to somewhat agree with, the whole list is put together like four year old would try putting a jigsaw puzzle together. He just strings all these teams into different spots with little to no real valid explanations aside from "because I think so".
First things first, Ill post the list that he came up with:
- Green Bay
- San Francisco
- New York Jets
- San Diego
- New Orleans
- Tampa Bay
- New England
- Kansas City
- New York Giants
- St. Louis
Now I would love to post his reasons behind each, because each one nearly enrages me just thinking how stupid this "expert" really is. But that is too much to list. So Ill just keep things simple. First, Buffalo is in the top ten? ARE YOU KIDDING ME! In his explanation he names a whole bunch of no name linebackers and says that they all have "potential". Every player in the NFL has "potential". He could say a linebacker picked in the seventh round has that same potential. That is just ridiculous. Denver shouldn't be in the top ten either, and I could go off on that because they are my most hated team besides the Steelers. Chicago shouldn't have cracked the top ten either. The rest of the choices can definately be changed around, but that's just according to the readers opinion.
Ill talk about the real reason behind this article, and thats him slaying Baltimore's linebackers. I pride myself on knowing everything about my favorite NFL team and about every player on it, so reading what he had to say about Baltimore's linebackers just made me want to let loose a slew of furious obscenities. Of course, he praises Ray Lewis, which is a given. He then completely disses T-Sizzle for him coming of his worst season last season, but Suggs has had a great offseason and is going to return to Pro Bowl form this season. He then writes that Jarret Johnson and Tavares Gooden are "just guys". I don't even know what that means besides him showing a complete lack of intelligence. Johnson had a career year last year and Tavares didn't even start at the end of last season. He was replaced by Danelle Ellerbe, who I have become a fan of and have complete confidence in him as a starter. Ellerbe played excellent the end of the season and was phenomenal in the playoffs. He then talks about Kruger's "disappointing" rookie season, but he had to play behind Terrell Suggs and Jarret Johnson. Plus, Kruger's probably not even going to play linebacker this year. And then he completely leaves out the drafting of Sergio Kindle, whom I expect will be an impact player this year.
Overall, this was just a disappointing article that Cole wrote and one I feel like he will want to forget after this season passes and proves this list completely wrong. I'm sure everyone can agree with my assessment on Jason Cole's list, even you (gag) Steeler fans.
