Around SBN: Seahawks Trade for TE Kellen Winslow

Besides playing wide receiver, Smith doubled as one of the top kick returners at the Division II level. Smith led the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association with a 20.2 punt return average last season, returning three for touchdowns as he ranked second in the nation.

POST PUBLISH NOTE: Smith played for little-known Elizabeth City State in North Carolina and grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He played QB in high school, leading his team to the state championship game. He spent two years at Grand Rapids Community College, earning awards as a kick returner. Smith wanted to transfer to Division I but didn't have the credits to do so. He returned home, spent a year away from football while going to a technical school and then resumed playing at Elizabeth City State.

I just saw this on NFP

F*****T is offensive, even when blanked out, who knew?

Does anyone think this team will ever bring in a legitimate 6’3"-6’4" WR?

I know this, but it would be nice to have someone on the edges that Joe does not have to throw downward to and a WR that just cannot be covered by a 5’11" CB.

And I guess Ozzie saw the heart in Mark Clayton who is 5’10" to pass on Roddy White, Vincent Jackson and Brandon Marshall the following draft, all guys who are 6’3"+

Haha come one man, did Harbaugh tell you to say that?

Dude

Dickson and Pitta are like tall WR! They aren’t that much bigger than VJax. Trust me, we don’t need tall WR anymore with those 2 guys in the fold.

Yea I know this, but it would still be nice down the road to get a guy on the edge who just is an absolute mismatch for every CB. But for now, I have no problem with our pass catchers. I am still trying to figure out which TE will have better production this year, Dickson or Pitta.

Dickson

I’m gonna predict Pitta this year, but for their career Dickson.

Pitta looks like he’ll catch a lot of short passes this year. When Joe gets more comftorable throwing deep middle in a year ot two, Dickson should have a ton of big plays down the seam

by BmoreBlitz on May 5, 2010 7:57 AM EDT up reply actions

In a YEAR OR TWO???

nooooo Joe needs to be comfortable throwing over the deep middle ASAP! we have the tools and our window with this WR corps isn’t incredibly long

Don't freak out...

It takes time. Brees couldn’t do what he’s doing now in year 3.

by BmoreBlitz on May 5, 2010 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions

i know. but you can still take shots down the middle.

Not gonna be predictable

It will be all about what defenses give us. Neither one may have a “big season.” Just depends on who opponents want to let beat them. They can stack the line to stop Little Ray, or try to stop Mason and Boldin, or our TE’s, but not all 3. Good luck to all!
