Quality Players for Baltimore Ravens Remain for NFL Draft 2nd Round

While a bunch of fans were greatly disappointed that the Baltimore Ravens chose to accumulate additional draft picks by trading back from the 1st round of the 2010 NFL Draft, team GM Ozzie Newsome pulled off a super deal for the pick-starved team. Sitting with two 2nd round picks as well as a third rounder in this second day of the draft, the Ravens will have some tough choices on a bunch of quality prospects still remaining on their Board.

Had they taken a pick in the first round, the guy they wanted was there and was eventually taken by one of the teams drafting after them. However, Ozzie refused to mention who that player was when I questioned him at the team's press conference once the first round was completed.

So whom do the Ravens target and will they actually make a selection today or even consider trading back again in what many have said is the deepest draft class in years?

Click on the 'Jump' to see the list of quality players ranked by NFL.com's Gil ('The Godfather') Brandt, former GM of the Dallas Cowboys, still remaining on the board.

Star-divide

Brandt ranks the players remaining on his board as the best available, although we all know that there is no guanrantee that our GM agrees with Gil's board. Tell me whom you want as the Ravens have two picks in the 2nd round, the 11th (43rd overall) and the 25th (57th overall) , plus the 6th pick in the 3rd round (70th overall).

Jimmy Claussen, QB-Notre Dame

Sergio Kindle, DE/OLB-Texas

Carlos Dunlap, DE-Florida

Colt McCoy, QB-Texas

Roger Saffold, LT-Indiana

Charles Brown, OT-USC

Everson Griffen, DE-USC

Linval Joseph, DE-East Carolina

Taylor Mays, S-USC

Brian Price, DE-UCLA

Golden Tate, WR-Notre Dame

Nate Allen, S-South Florida

Navorro Bowman, LB-Penn State

Terrence Cody, DT-Alabama

Vlad Ducaase, OT-Massachusetts

Rob Gronkowski, TE-Arizona

Lamarr Houston, DL-Texas

Koa Misi, DE-Utah

Daryl Washington, LB-TCU

Brandt also lists guys not in his Top Five "Tiers," but still in his Top 100, including many players Ravens fans would love to see in purple next season. They include Arrelious Benn (WR-Illinois), Bruce Campbell (LT-Maryland), Eric Decker (WR-Indiana), Sean Lee (LB-Penn St.), Tony Moaki (TE-Iowa), Brandon Spikes (LB-Florida), Aaron Hernandez (TE-Florida), Alex Carrington (DE-Arkansas State), Chris Cook (CB-Virginia) and Toby Gerhart (RB-Stanford) among others.

According to MASN, there remains a chance that the Ravens may yet trade back even further!

Here is the link to Gil Brandt's list.

3 picks in the next 38 spots

With 3 picks in the next 38 we might be able to get Cody, Gronkowski and Gerhart. Just a thought.

Is is time for Football?

Not Gerhart

Cody and Gronkowski would be great though.

you hit the nal on the head

2 big areas where we need to get better. Both Heap and Gregg are getting up there in age and have had injury problems.Don’t get me wrong, they were among the elite in their prime, but the positions they play require strength, quickness, and stamina and both Cody and Gronk have the needed criteria plus one other Heap and Greg don’t, Youth.

Next 3 picks

It is possible we trade down further, but I would love Cody, Dunlap or Kindle at 43…

I've heard that Kindle

just doesn’t fit into our scheme well. We just don’t need an outside backer right now.

2nd round players I'd be interested in

Cody, Gronkowski, Joseph, Ghee, Cook, Benn, Tate, Gerhart

Take Kindle & Mays in the 2nd round.

by JP19901 on Apr 23, 2010 1:52 PM EDT reply actions

See Kindle comment above

and as much as has been said bad about Mays, I’d think he’d flourish learning next to Ed.

What corners are left?

The best on the board

are probably Cook and Ghee. The Jets are going to be real tough w/ Revis and Kyle Wilson. Sort of glad we’re playing them in the first game before Wilson gets any real reps. However, they will most likely start Revis and Crommartie. Although Revis might limit Anquan, D-Mase will school either Crommartie or Wilson, and Stallworth in the slot will burn the rookie from Boise State.

You gotta go with Dunlap and Hays

Now there are two guys that would be first round picks in any other draft. I however really hope we’re done trading back. There is still a lot of special talent remaining right now, and I’m ready a little bitter that we didn’t pull the trigger on Wilson. I’d much rather be hearing about Webb & Wilson in upcoming years versus Revis & Wilson.

Hays = Mays (stupid smarthphone)

Would be two great picks

A huge trench guy to swat down passes and a tough SOB to pound the ones that get through Dunlap’s wingspan!

Even though i was initially upset with the trade, but

We got great value and now i see all the players still available for us to pick up… Kyle Wilson would have been a great pick, but Ozzie knows what he’s doing.. i’m content with what we look to do today.

by ravsagain on Apr 23, 2010 2:58 PM EDT reply actions

The key will be the ultimate value

of the three picks vs. how good Wilson, or whomever we would have taken ends up being. I say three guys will improve this team even more than a great pick like Wilson would.

Your on point here Bruce

With the depth of the draft, this was a smart move.

by 60minuteassassin on Apr 23, 2010 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

FWIW, over at ESPN Mel predicts us taking Linval Joseph and Eric Decker in the 2nd. McShay and Scouts Inc. have us with Nate Allen and Taylor Price in the 2nd and Anthony McCoy in the third.

Both obviously say it’s impossible to guess how the second day will go (like they were right on the first day anyway) but I don’t think that’s a bad day in either scenario, but at the same time we can do better

by Timbo Slice on Apr 23, 2010 3:50 PM EDT reply actions

Cody and Cook would just make my day

I’m a Cody fan now. At this point, I’d be really disappointed not to have him. I think it’s clear that he’d fit our schemem better than having a versatile outside guy. There’s been talk of Linval (sp?) Joseph, but Cody just fits, IMO.

What a difference a year makes

Many clamored for Anquan last year for a 1st and a 3rd, with only the aforementioned Mr. Boldin as compensation.

This year, we gave up a 1st and received:

Anquan Boldin
Denver’s second round pick
An improved 3rd round pick (bottom to top)
An improved 4th round pick (bottom to middle)
An additional 5th round pick

Bravo gentleman…

Now, this only really means anything if we do some damage today, but I like our chances.

Yes,yes yes,yes

To quote James Brown “sometimes I feel so nice I want to jump back and kiss myself”. Good god uhh!

by Ravens One on Apr 23, 2010 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions

That player had to be Jared Odrick!

I have no doubt Bruce, that was the player they wanted. All America, Big Ten Player of the Year. Great pass rusher as well as run stopper. Given the ages of Gregg and Price ,that’s a slight gap that needs some help. Hopefully Kruger put some muscle weight on and will be the force he has the potential to be this year.

I want Mays

I’m sick of Landry

My comments aren't random, you just can't think as fast as me....

If Mount Cody is still on the board...

That’s what they call him in ’Bama --the Ravens should take – and I think they will. Yes, he needs to get his weight and belly under control but he his is extremely agile for a mountain.
Sergio Kindle is another one the Ravens should not pass on if available.
I like Rob Gronkowski despite health issues, his brother Dan played here for the Terps.

Wow, you must now be a happy camper

We’re you in the Ravens War Room and whispering in Ozzie’s ear, because he obviously either heard you or, gasp,….reads The Beatdown!

Very Happy!

If the Pats don’t move and snatch Gronko from the jaws of OZ in the 2nd. rd., we don;t get Kindle. So I am not the least bit unhappy there considering Dickson and Pitta. You like to have 3TE in case of injury. These 2 guys will be around a long time!
